If you turned on ABC with hopes of hearing The View cohosts’ fiery takes on the latest news Monday morning (of which there is a lot), well, you were probably disappointed to see that the show wasn’t live or new. Unfortunately, that will continue to be the case all week, as the show is on a bye week, with reruns airing all week while the hosts have a bit of a spring break off. On Monday, it was the February 15 episode featuring Jennifer Lopez as the guest of the day that aired. On Tuesday, April 23, the show will again show its episode from March 12, which featured Tamron Hall and Patton Oswalt. Then, on Wednesday, April 24, the network will re-air its March 14 episode with actor Ice-t and CNN’s Jim Sciutto, and on Thursday, April 25, fans can revisit the show’s April 2 episode featuring Valerie Bertinelli, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Wilson Cruz.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine earned its position as a favorite series among fans because of its more complex take on the franchise’s themes, thrusting the United Federation of Planets into a huge war that tested its moral compass time and again. But even at the height of the Dominion War, DS9 also found time to follow Jake and Nog’s search for a baseball card and to check in on a holographic Rat Pack lounge singer.
But even within that wide range of possibilities, the season three episode “Facets” stands out as an oddball. Written by René Echevarria and directed by Cliff Bole, “Facets” introduced the Zhian’tara ritual, through which Trill hosts find closure for their symbiotes by spreading host personalities to others.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 3
After a pair of episodes that leaned pretty heavily into the adventure vibes of season 5’s central treasure hunt, Star Trek: Discovery goes back to what it does best: Talking about feelings. Best, of course, is a relative term in this context. If you find Discovery’s tendency to have its characters verbally hash out every relationship conflict and moral quandary they encounter to be a refreshing sign of maturity for the franchise, there’s a lot for you to enjoy here. If you think all this talking and self-reflection is a massive waste of time…well, you’re going to wonder where the high-speed sand chases and drone fights went.

Star Trek: Discovery, now in its fifth and final season (with new episodes dropping Thursdays), has one of the best—if not the best—couples of the long-running franchise in Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz). For Stamets, this final season is really about his legacy—especially upon learning that the spore drive program is being shuttered. Now that the U.S.S. Discovery crew has a new mission, “it’s his entire driving force,” Rapp tells TV Insider. “It’s a major crossroads moment and anytime any human being has a crossroads moment when he finds this new path, it’s like, all in. When you’re ready to walk away from something and then something else presents itself, it’s either, okay, I’m not going to do that or going to do it, but if I’m going to do it, I’m...

This article contains spoilers for the season 5 premiere of "Star Trek: Discovery."
With an ensemble cast as large as the one in "Star Trek: Discovery," it can't be easy to find a way to give each and every major character their own moment to shine. Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is all but guaranteed to play a significant role in any given episode, naturally, as is David Ajala's Cleveland Booker. Recent seasons have even committed to shining a brighter spotlight on the supporting cast at large, devoting much more screen time and emotional heavy-lifting to characters like Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Dr. Culber (Wilson Cruz), and Adira (Blu del Barrio). But Doug Jones' charismatic performance as the even-keeled Saru has always helped elevate "Discovery" to greater heights, serving much of the same narrative and thematic purpose as classic franchise characters like Spock or Data.

“Star Trek: Discovery,” the flagship series of Paramount+’s “Star Trek” universe, is heading toward its ending. The series, which premiered in 2017, will premiere its fifth and final season on April 4, closing the book on the adventures of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew.
A new season also means new challenges for any Starfleet captain, and IndieWire can exclusively share a new clip from the premiere episode that promises a big one for Burnham. On a recovery mission to secure a mysterious ship, Burnham receives information from her crew about signs of life on board. But as her supervisor Kovich coldly reminds her, her mission requires her to neutralize the potential threat “by any means necessary.”
Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, “Discovery” was a prequel to the groundbreaking original 1966 “Star Trek” series, taking place a decade before the adventures of Captain Kirk, Spock, and the other...

After five seasons, Star Trek: Discovery, the show that launched the new set of shows in the franchise to continue its long legacy, will be ending. It’s been quite the journey for this crew—especially for Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), considering he was killed early on! Ahead of the final episodes (the first two of which premiere April 4), TV Insider spoke with Cruz and had him look back at Culber’s journey, tease what’s to come in the final season, and talk about what’s next for him. Culber’s journey has been a wild one. Season 2 alone… Wilson Cruz: Epic. I didn’t know what I was signing up for because the first season I’m there, Dr. Culber’s definitely on the periphery. If anything, he’s Stamet’s [Anthony Rapp] partner. We don’t really get to know him until Season 2, ...

“Between season 1 and season 5 is an entire life.” That’s a real understatement on the part of Sonequa Martin-Green in an interview with Den of Geek magazine, describing the five-season and seven-year journey of her character Michael Burnham, the protagonist of Star Trek: Discovery.
When we first met Burnham way back in 2017, she was the first officer on the USS Shenzhou, a Starfleet ship operating about a decade before the events of The Original Series, and under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). By the end of the two-part premiere, Georgiou was dead and Burnham was in prison for mutiny.
Things have certainly changed since then. We begin Discovery‘s fifth and final season with Captain Michael Burnham of the USS Discovery, but adventuring over 900 years after the events of the premiere. Yeah, it’s been a wild journey, one that incurred more than a little criticism early...

Approaching the final season of Star Trek: Discovery feels bittersweet. The adventures of this crew have been unique, primarily because of their time-jumping. The future of Star Fleet always had potential, and Discovery tapped into that well. No matter how you feel about Star Trek: Discovery, it’s been a show that wears its heart on its sleeve and opened the door to new viewers in the process. The final season kicked off at SXSW 2024, and the big screen premiere lived up to the venue.
Star Trek: Discovery Plot

Every franchise out there should be making casting choices that reflect the breadth and diversity of humanity we see every single day in our own lives, but "Star Trek" in particular has even more reason than others to do so. Heralded from its earliest conception as a progressive, forward-thinking, and uniquely idealistic series of stories, the property has done its best to maintain creator Gene Roddenberry's grand vision throughout its 50+ years of existence. That's not to say "Star Trek" has a perfect track record or has avoided certain missed opportunities over the years. Still, the franchise has always gone much further and more boldly than its contemporaries could ever claim to do.
As /Film's Jacob Hall notes in his review of the "Discovery" season 5 premiere, this particular "Star Trek" series has always made it a point to foreground characters of marginalized identities who rarely get a moment in the spotlight in most other entertainment.

The cancelation of "Star Trek: Discovery" came as a surprise for the cast and crew. It seems that word of the show's cancelation came just as director Jonathan Frakes was filming the last few episodes, and the showrunners had to rush to wrap up the series in a satisfying way, re-writing a few scenes to indicate that this was indeed the end for the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery-A. Early word is that the fifth season of "Discovery" will boast an archaeology-forward, galactic Indiana Jones-style adventure story extrapolated from the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Chase".
Naturally, the cast and crew of "Discovery" are feeling wistful. Sonequa Martin-Green (who plays Captain Burnham), Wilson Cruz (who plays Dr. Culber), and executive producer Alex Kurtzman spoke at this year's SXSW -- which /Film attended -- and they were given a moment to ensure that the series was given a proper sendoff.

The crew of the U.S.S. Discovery will sign off on their final transmission this year when "Star Trek: Discovery" comes to an end after 5 seasons. In 2017, the venerable “Star Trek” science fiction franchise had gone a full twelve years without a new series, after Upn aired the series finale of “Enterprise” in 2005. That changed when Paramount released “Star Trek: Discovery” on their CBS All Access (since rebranded to Paramount+) streamer, kicking off a new era for the IP.
Now, seven years later, the series is set to take its own bow. The fifth and last season of “Discovery” is set to premiere this April, and Paramount+ has released a new trailer for the series’ swan song.

As My So-Called Life nears its 30th anniversary, Executive Producer Ed Zwick took a walk down memory lane Saturday to remind folks about working on the before-its-time drama that starred Claire Danes.
In a long X thread, Zwick shared an “origin story” about how he was first drawn to the work of Winnie Holzman before he would end up co-EPing her script with longtime producing partner Marshall Herskovitz. Zwick chronicles his work on My So-Called Life, as well as thirtysomething, The Last Samurai and Glory in his upcoming book “Hits, Flops and Other Illusions,” out in February.
“Kristy McNichol played ‘Buddy,’ an adolescent girl on ABC-tv’s Family,” Zwick began. “I’d write surly teenage dialogue and get network notes on my scripts with the initials N.O.B. meaning “not our Buddy.” I vowed someday I’d get to portray real adolescence.”

Annette Bening had a defiant message for foes of LGBTQ rights and equality in the United States, specifically political leaders who are targeting the trans community. “You do not want to make this momma mad,” said the four-time Oscar nominee as she received Advocate Award on Oct. 28 from Glsen’s Rise Up LA benefit, which raised funds for the group’s programs supporting queer grade-school students across the country.

For many years, death in "Star Trek" was a permanent event. To cite a notable example: when Captain Kirk's brother Sam (William Shatner) was killed in the episode "Operation -- Annihilate!", he was dead forever. There wasn't a storyline later in the series wherein Sam was cloned or resurrected somehow.
In 2023, the tune on death has changed, and multiple characters have now died and returned. Naturally, "Star Trek III: The Seach for Spock" surrounded the resurrection of the title character (Leonard Nimoy). Every Trekkie can tell you the saga of the death of Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) and her subsequent return in the form of her half-Romulan daughter Sela.
Neelix (Ethan Phillips) was killed and brought back via Borg technology in the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Mortal Coil," and Dr. Culber (Wilson Cruz) was salvaged from a mushroom dimension. More recently, In "Star Trek: Picard," Data (Brent Spiner), who...

The first of two “United We Trek!” pickets in New York and Los Angeles drew a show runner and actors from spinoffs of the original Paramount-owned franchise, a Star Trek novelist, and a contingent of Trekkies marching in Starfleet garb.
On another hot morning in the late-summer heat sink of Times Square, picketers incorporated Star Trek catchphrases into chanted refrains such as “Live long and prosper/We want their offer” and “Paramount, let’s engage/We want a fair wage.”

Julio Torres dared Hollywood studios Friday to “massively reinvent the way that they do business” and to do “the unthinkable: paying their CEOs just slightly less than obscene amounts of money.”
“Enough is enough with the greed,” he said while picketing in New York City, flanked by several recognizable stars, among them Susan Sarandon, Rosie Perez, Ariana DeBose and Wilson Cruz.
Torres — a former writer for “Saturday Night Live,” writer and star of HBO’s “Los Espookys” and writer, director and star of A24’s upcoming “Problemista” — spoke for five minutes to a cheering crowd about joining the masses across industries in the coined “Hot Strike Summer,” his experience moving to the United States from El Salvador during the Occupy Wall Street movement and the parallels he sees therein.

SAG-AFTRA members have now gotten a fuller look at what was on the negotiating table between their union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers during more than a month of negotiations. The general response to the 12-page document, which was released late Monday night, was a mixture of surprise and disappointment over what the studios allegedly proposed or wouldn’t engage on, according to the union.
“My eyes popped out of my head when I read these deal points last night. Unreal,” Star Trek: Discovery star Wilson Cruz tweeted on Tuesday. The Righteous Gemstones actress Kristen Johnston, who picketed at Disney on Tuesday, also tweeted a brief but pointed response: “They actually hate us.”
Antonio Rael, who was on the Fox picket line in L.A., generally described the counterproposals as “insulting,” while fellow actor and union member Laura Martinez said, “They know we’re not going to agree to that.
