Worked with Richard Dean Anderson before the Stargate SG-1 (1997) series; he was Dana Elcar's body double on MacGyver (1985) and played roles as a cement truck driver and illegal hunter Wyatt Porter. Before his untimely death one month later, his final appearance was with Rick in Stargate: Continuum (2008).

A former captain in the US Army, stationed in Korea in the later 1960s.

Was also a skilled artist and wood craftsman.

Among his most important guest-appearances for TV was the part of Captain William Scully, Dana Scully's father, on The X-Files (1993).

Had appeared in three different productions which featured a character named Dr. Weir: The 6th Day (2000), Stargate SG-1 (1997) and Stargate: Atlantis (2004).

Was a frequent co-star of Jay Brazeau.

Although Peter Williams was the main recurring guest star on Stargate SG-1 (1997) for four years, he and Davis only shared a scene in three episodes: Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods (1997), Stargate SG-1: Serpent's Song (1999) and Stargate SG-1: Point of View (1999).

Appeared in episodes of two different series entitled "Crossroads": The Sentinel: Crossroads (1998) and Stargate SG-1: Crossroads (2000). There is also an episode of the latter series entitled Stargate SG-1: The Sentinel (2002).

In one year (1991), appeared in two different productions in which a game of chess was played where humans are used for game pieces and if captured, they would be killed: Twin Peaks (1990) and the "All the King's Horses" episode of "Monkey Planet" (2000).

He was the only person to have an actual military service record on Stargate SG-1 (1997).

His last appearance as "Gen. Hammond" was in Stargate: Continuum (2008), which was released in the US a month after his death.

Was paid a posthumous tribute by the makers of Stargate: Atlantis (2004) by having a new starship named for his character, General Hammond, who also died unexpectedly.

His hobbies included painting, drawing and woodcarving.

Graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, including a double major in theatre and art from Southwest Missouri State College in 1965. Graduated with an MA in Theatre from Southern Illinois University in 1970. Taught for ten years at the University of British Columbia, then completed his PhD in theatre at SIU in 1982.

Don who hails from Missouri never lost his southern accent throughout his long acting career. It seems odd that he only accepted or was offered very few western genre roles. Only 2 to be exact!.

Has a son, Matt Davis, with his first wife, Sondra Sue Davis.
