[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 3 Episode 9, “Last Christmas.”] At least for now, that wasn’t the “Last Christmas” the task force will be together for on Law & Order: Organized Crime. Heading into the episode, the members of the unit thought the last thing they’d do together would be to meet with Robert Silas (John Doman) and make a deal for the information he has. Things, of course, went sideways — Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) and her detectives, Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Jet Slootmaekers (Ainsley Seiger), Jamie Whelan (Brent Antonello) and Bobby Reyes (Rick Gonzalez) were ambushed — but worked out in the end. After that, Bell decided she wasn’t taking the new job and would instead be staying right where she is — and that means the task force isn’t being shut down (but that cleanse with the sage Jamie gave her? Much needed for the office). “I think ...

Newton series The Big Cigar has rounded out its cast, with Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), Noah Emmerich (Dark Winds), John Doman (City on a Hill), Chris Brochu (Zero Contact) and newcomer Brenton Allen coming aboard in recurring roles. André Holland leads the cast, with Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, Pj Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Jordane Christie, Moses Ingram, Olli Haaskivi and Glynn Turman also set to star, as previously announced.
The six-episode limited series, based on the eponymous Playboy magazine article by Argo‘s Joshuah Bearman, tells the extraordinary, hilarious, almost-too-good-to-be-true story of how Black Panther leader Newton (Holland) relied on his best friend, Bert Schneider (Nivola) — the Hollywood producer behind Easy Rider — to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.
Newman will play Roz Torrance, with Emmerich as Schneider’s brother Stanley, and Doman as his father Abe.

David Simon's "The Wire" is one of the most densely layered television dramas in the history of the medium. Over five seasons, it depicts in enraging and heartbreaking detail how fortunes rise and fall at the top of the civic food chain and at the bottom. We watch in disgust as a ruthless careerist like William Rawls (John Doman) rockets through the ranks of the Baltimore Police Department, and grieve for the hopeless middle-school students of the fourth season who, despite showing great promise in a math class taught by former cop Roland Pryzbylewski (Jim True-Frost), are destined for the streets....

The case may not be closed on For Life.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Nicholas Pinnock-led drama could return for a third season on IMDb TV, the Amazon-backed streaming service.
At this stage, the streaming service has committed to air the first two seasons, but additional seasons could come to pass.
It will all come down to how For Life performs with its already-aired two seasons.
THR states that the cast recently extended their options with both Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature Studios, meaning that the cast will still be available should a formal pickup come before the options lapse.
This is a great vote of confidence in the drama that was canceled by ABC earlier this year.
For Life Season 2 averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.35 rating in the demo. The series is thought to be a solid performer in delayed viewing.

Adult Swim always has some interesting programming.
They've dabbled in live-action, but their main market is adult animation.
Birdgirl, a spinoff of a Hanna-Barbera character, is a wonderful new venture for Adult Swim.
The show follows Judy Ken Sebben (Aka Birdgirl) as she juggles inheriting her father's (Birdman's) company, Sebben & Sebben while being a superhero.
Hilarious antics ensue, as she is not prepared to run her father's company.
Many things make this show a delight to watch.
Probably the most important, the leads are two strong women.
Judy's second in command at the company is Meredith. Meredith also has superpowers. She is a Mind Taker: she can read minds, influence minds, and communicate telepathically.
Meredith is a sweetheart. She cares for Judy and tries her hardest to help her run the company. She also helps her balance her superhero persona with her human self.

It took writer and director Aaron Sorkin fourteen years after the initial meeting with Steven Spielberg at his house on a Saturday back in 2006 to finally get “The Trial of the Chicago 7” made. And according to Sorkin, it finally came together thanks to former president Donald Trump.
“I don’t want to give Donald Trump credit for anything, but he’s the one who got Chicago seven made,” Sorkin tells moderator Jimmie Briggs at The Wrap’s screening series of the film. “Because he would have these protests, he would have these rallies, and there would be protesters at the rallies, and he would start getting nostalgic about the old days when they ‘Carry that guy out of here on a stretcher,’ ‘I’d like to beat the crap out of him,’ ‘Let’s punch him right in the face.'”

It’s been nearly two years since “City on a Hill” premiered at the 2019 Atx TV Festival, and while plenty has changed in the real world, it’s still the early ’90s in Showtime’s crime drama. Assistant District Attorney Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) is still trying to clean up a Boston bureaucracy rife with corruption, and FBI Agent Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) is still trying to do things the old way, his way, not exactly the legal way.
On Tuesday, during the network’s presentation at the Television Critics Association Winter 2021 Press Tour, Showtime released the Season 2 trailer for “City on a Hill,” which you can watch below. As previously announced, the second season will premiere March 28, and the updated synopsis is listed here:

Here is a wrap up of all the news you need to know from Thursday, January 28.
ABC's Big Sky is expanding its cast.
Deadline is reporting that the freshman hit is adding a powerful new family as Big Sky Season 1 progresses.
Michelle Forbes, Britt Robertson, Michael Raymond-James, Ryan Dorsey, and Omar Metwally have all been added in recurring guest roles.
The outlet states that Forbes, Robertson, Raymond James, and Dorsey will all be playing family members, while Metwally is on board as a U.S. Marshall.
Since its debut in November, the series has been a decent performer for ABC and recently snagged a six-episode backorder.
The ratings have been solid, and it was steady after a six-week hiatus, which does bode well for its future.
Now that the initial mystery is wrapping up, all eyes will be on the next storyline to see whether it can keep up the pace.

Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, which is now streaming on Netflix, has the benefit of good timing. The movie, as is clear from its title, is taking on the notorious legal battle waged against the so-called “Chicago Seven,” a disjointed crew of anti-Vietnam War activists and counterculturalists who were charged with, among other things, inciting riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. It was obviously quite a year, ’68: MLK and Bobby Kennedy dead, youth and minority movements rip-roaring their way into the American consciousness, more than...

To say that John Doman has had a very successful career would be putting it lightly. Sure, his name may not be as widely known as some of his contemporaries, but he has a resume that could stand up next to just about anyone’s. He began his acting career nearly 30 years ago and has managed to get more than 100 acting credits since then. He has truly played a wide range of characters and he has shown that his range is unlimited. No matter what kind of shows or films you’re into, there a very good chance that John

Most male monsters in fiction are made by women. Or, at least, it’s women who tend to get the disproportionate share of the blame when their creations turn out to be significantly less than civilized. The most famous examples of murderer-moulding mothers are probably Norma Bates, Cersei Lannister, Olivia Soprano and, of course, Mrs. McAllister (momma raised a real little trap-setting psycho there). In real life, too, serial killers like Ed Kemper, Ed Gein, Ted Bundy and Dennis Nilsen were all brutalized or disappointed by their mothers to such an extent that to some people the link between their formative maternal experiences and their misdeeds seems as tight and as strong as a steel cable.
This isn’t the case with Amazon’s The Boys, where it’s bad or inadequate fathers who provide male characters with the bulk of their nefarious neuroses and murderous motivations.

Filming on The Batman continues in earnest in the UK, with the production moving into the heart of Liverpool this week to shoot a major funeral sequence. This has brought Robert Pattinson back out in the open, giving us our best look yet at his Bruce Wayne, and it’s also revealed our first glimpse at an iconic Gotham City rogue. Namely, mob boss Carmine Falcone, as played by John Turturro.
A set video snapped by a local fan was shared to Twitter this morning and it captures a brief few seconds during a take, where Falcone is seen to be descending a set of steps, presumably after the conclusion of the memorial service, surrounded by his entourage and talking to a woman on his right. It’s not an up-close look at how Turturro will appear in the role, but we can still see that he’s sporting grey hair,...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Episode 207 of “The Boys,” titled “Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker.”)
The penultimate episode of “The Boys” Season 2 launched Friday, ending with a literally explosive scene that threw our heroes completely off guard and sets us up for — possibly — an even more explosive finale next week.
At the end of the hour, titled “Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker,” Hughie (Jack Quaid), Butcher (Karl Urban) and the gang sit around the TV to watch the Vought congressional hearings on C-span, after all of their hard work teaming up with Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and blackmailing former Vought Cso Jonah Vogelbaum (John Doman) into testifying, after their star witness Lamplighter (Shawn Ashmore) committed suicide. But just when the proceedings begin they’re short circuited by the sudden mass murder of several hearing attendees, whose heads explode at random with absolutely no indication of how or why the massacre is occurring.

This article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 2 Episode 7
During the final minutes of the penultimate episode of The Boys’ second season, ‘Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker’, there was a mad scramble when a crucial courtroom showdown set up by Mallory and our gang went very badly awry.
The plan seemed fairly fool proof: with help from the series’ very own version of Aoc, Congresswomen Victoria Neuman, the team would force retired Vought scientist Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum – key in the creation of supes like Homelander – to testify about the company’s history of experiments with Compound V; experiments that are still being carried out at the secret Sage Grove Center facility, where Vought is trying to stabilize its effects on adults.
Unfortunately, just as Vogelbaum (John Doman) started to spill the beans while the world watched, the judge who was presiding over the hearing got his damn head exploded, and then Vogelbaum suffered the same fate,...

Well, burnt-out history teachers have a new movie to kill two class periods.
That’s assuming they can get permission slips from parents to show it to students. It has some violence and a moment of sexual menace, so that might be a hurdle for some high school sophomore instructors. So how about this: They turn on the overhead projector, start the movie, and play a majority of it without video. The kids listen to it like it’s a radio play, the teacher catches up on their grading, and by Wednesday morning class is back in session as normal. Or they could, you know, read about it.
No, The Trial of the Chicago 7 isn’t terribly cinematic. It’s hardly cinematic at all, and here the idea of Aaron Sorkin at his most Sorkin-y somehow translates to him at his worst. It doesn’t confront. It doesn’t stimulate.

On paper, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” feels like it could be a bit of Aaron Sorkin’s greatest hits. The drama, which hits select theaters on Friday before heading to Netflix on Oct. 16, has lots of the qualities you can find in previous works that he’s written: politics, legal scenes and, most of all, smart people talking fast (pretty much everything Sorkin has done).
But if “The Trial of the Chicago 7” is indeed full of the verbal pyrotechnics that can make Sorkin such an invigorating storyteller, the film is most notable for the way it goes in directions we haven’t seen from the writer and director. With its intricate editing and full-scale action sequences re-creating the riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” moves beyond Sorkin the writer of dialogue, or Sorkin the supplier of scripts to the likes of Rob Reiner,...

It’s a curious thing that in the movie culture of the last 50 years, you can count on one hand (or maybe one middle finger) the good dramas that have been made about the political counterculture of the 1960s. The turbulence of that era has never stopped casting a shadow over our own. Yet there’s something about it that resists being captured with any real onscreen authenticity. When you gather up a bunch of actors and dress them like hippies and have them carry protest signs, it tends to look like what it is: a staged insurrection. And the ’60s were such an amped orgy of media signifiers — the flower-power fashion, the groovys and hey, mans, the rock psychedelia, the jabbering on about revolution — that the era, viewed in hindsight, has a way of devolving into a compost heap of clichés.

Netflix has set an October 16 streaming date for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, its $56M global pickup from Cross Creek, in what looks to be the first of its 2020-21 awards season contenders.
Paramount, which first had distribution rights to the movie, was eyeing a fall platform release, initially with a limited debut of September 25, then an expansion on October 9 and a full wide release of October 16 — hence Netflix’s drop date keeps with what was originally planned for theatrical prior to this year’s U.S. presidential election.

"It's all so confusing...!" Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie ensemble comedy titled Almost Love, a film about romance in the smartphone era. Also known as Sell By, which is the title the film is using for the UK release. This originally premiered at the Toronto Inside Out Film Festival, and also played at numerous Lgbtq festivals including Outfest, Out on Film Festival, and a few others. Adam and Marklin's 5-year relationship has gone from a passionate flame to a simmer, forcing them to reconcile with each other's shortcomings while their friends endlessly search for/deal with love in New York City. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Mike Doyle, and stars Scott Evans, Augustus Prew, Michelle Buteau, Colin Donnell, Zoe Chao, Christopher Gray, John Doman, Patricia Clarkson, and Kate Walsh. This looks a bit cheesy and cliche, no surprise, mixed with some modern charm and humor.

The Affair looks to its past when considering the future in a cathartic entry that’s a high point for both the season and Noah Solloway.

The Affair Season 5 Episode 7
“That’s not how I remember it…”
There’s a scene in episode “507” of The Affair where Noah attempts to give a peace offering to Whitney, only to discover that he’s essentially brought her poison ivy. This thoughtful, yet ultimately unhelpful act, perfectly distills Noah through this episode. He’s trying to help and it’s a flashy performance, but he may actually just be getting under people’s skin.
Making amends is typically seen as productive behavior, but that’s not always the case. It’s possible for people to make amends, but use that as just another way to justify their actions and help them sleep at night.

Appreciated fondly by razor-gloved connoisseurs the world over, Freddy’S Revenge’s intricately crafted gay subtext decimated its lead’s job prospects in a single swipe. In Scream Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street, Patton finally strikes back.
