Director Ali Abbasi had Sebastian Stan undergo an ominous transformation for his forthcoming film The Apprentice, in which the actor will star a young Donald Trump. As proven by the first-look photos from the movie, set to premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the process was a success — Stan’s Trump looks exactly like the kind of person who would be sued by the Department of Justice for violating the Fair Housing Act.

Sebastian Stan is continuing to be a master of disguise.
After portraying Tommy Lee in Hulu series “Pam and Tommy” and transforming via prosthetics for “A Different Man,” Stan is now taking on the role of a lifetime: Donald Trump. Stan leads “The Apprentice,” directed by “Border” and “Holy Spider” filmmaker Ali Abbasi from a script by Gabe Sherman.
“The Apprentice” is debuting at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in competition alongside buzzy features like Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada,” Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness,” Paolo Sorrentino’s “Parthenope,” and David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds.”
“The Apprentice” centers on Trump’s (Stan) rise to fame following what the official description calls a “Faustian deal” with right-wing lawyer Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong). Trump’s marriage to Ivana Trump (Maria Bakalova) and relationship with his family including Fred Trump Sr. (Martin Donovan) are also interrogated onscreen. The film...

Sebastian Stan is no stranger to governmental subterfuge on screen. In fact, a decade ago he was causing international incidents in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, caught up in a conspiracy that went all the way to the top. But for his next role – firmly away from the MCU – he’s playing a guy who was at the very top for four long years. Yes, in Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice, Stan will be playing a young Donald Trump – and the film has just unveiled a first-look image, which you can see above.
We know – it’s upsetting to see someone as likeable on-screen as Sebastian Stan playing someone as [Redacted] as Donald J. Trump. Frankly, we’d sooner be mates with his cannibalistic killer from 2022’s Fresh. Starring alongside Stan in The Apprentice are Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn (also seen in the image), with Tenet’s Martin Donovan as the elder Fred Trump,...

The first-look image of Sebastian Stan as a young, pre-tv star and pre-president Donald Trump in buzzy upcoming biopic “The Apprentice” has been revealed.
Ali Abbasi’s feature — which has just been announced as part of the 2024 Cannes main competition — charts Trump’s ascent to power through what is described as a “Faustian deal” with the influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn (seen in the still being portrayed by Jeremy Strong). As the synopsis reads, “‘The Apprentice’ is a dive into the underbelly of the American empire.”
The hot button film, written by Gabe Sherman and likely to cause a stir on both sides of the political fence, also stars Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump and Martin Donovan as Fred Trump Sr.
Producers include Daniel Bekerman for Scythia Films (Canada), Jacob Jarek for Profile Pictures (Denmark), Ruth Treacy and Julianne Forde for Tailored Films (Ireland), Abbasi and Louis Tisne...

Immediately off the back of its inclusion in the Cannes competition line-up, Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice has dropped a first look of Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn.

The prestigious French film festival unveiled its 2024 official film selection Thursday in Paris, and Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice was among the titles revealed for the event’s main competition.
The biographical drama stars Sebastian Stan as Trump and explores his career as an aspiring real estate tycoon in the New York City of the 1970s and 1980s. The film is described as a mentor-protégé narrative that documents the start of an American dynasty and tackles themes including power, corruption and deception. Jeremy Strong was a relatively successful working actor before he joined the cast of HBO’s “Succession,” but his turn as the neurotic, pathetic Kendall Roy won him an Emmy Award and established him as a genuine star. Now, in a new interview, Strong opened up about the stress of moving on from the pivotal role after the series concluded its four-season run.
“There was a moment when the show ended where I felt a profound sense of, ‘Was this the thing? Was this the event of my life?” Strong said in an interview with The New York Times Magazine (via Variety). And then a great determination to achieve exit velocity from it so I could attempt to do more.”
Among that “more” may be a bit of comedy. You read that right.

Christopher Nolan has built his name up over the years to the point that he’s widley considered the greatest director or our generation. His latest film, Oppenheimer, seems bound to finally win him an elusive best director Oscar. But, in the wild build up to his latest movie, many failed to consider his last movie, Tenet, which was unusually divisive for the director. With it set for a nationwide re-release next month, now’s a good time to look back on a movie that’s winning more and more fans every year.
Tenet was born from a simple idea that came to him while making his breakout hit Memento over 20 years ago. While putting that film together, he thought of a single image that helped him crack the way in which to tell a backwards story. The image was that of a bullet being sucked out of a wall.

One of the most acclaimed movies of the year is being turned into a miniseries by AMC. For better or worse, "BlackBerry," which was released in theaters back in May, is going to be repurposed as a three-episode TV show that will air on the cable network next month across three nights. It will also be streaming on AMC+. While this opens the movie up to a larger audience, it's going to be presented in a way that was not originally intended, making this something of a bittersweet situation. More on that in a second. For now, let's get into the specifics.

It will air in three parts on November 13, 14, and 15 on AMC, with all three episodes available on AMC+ on November 13. Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks,...

In August 1988, Steven Soderbergh shot his first narrative feature film, “sex, lies, and videotape,” in one month with a budget $1.2 million. Five months later, it premiered at the U.S. Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where it won the first-ever Audience Award. A few months after that, it screened at Cannes and won the Palme d’Or over “Do the Right Thing.” “sex, lies, and videotape” hit theaters in August 1989, a year after it went into production, and earned over $36 million worldwide. The rest is history.

“What happened was, I got a call from Chris’ agent, Dan Aloni, who I had known because he screened Memento for me after Memento couldn’t find a distributor after being on the festival circuit for a year,” Soderbergh said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “Dan calls me up out of the blue and says, ‘Could you watch this movie? “You up for playing outside the lines?” Nicole Kidman asks an undercover agent in the first full trailer for Special Ops: Lioness, the latest series from Taylor Sheridan to hit Paramount+. While Sheridan is best known now for his Yellowstone franchise, this trailer offers a reminder that he was also the writer behind Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, and Lioness looks much more in that vein.
The show follows Joe, a CIA operative played by Zoe Saldaña, who works for what is known as the Lioness Program, run by Kidman’s Kaitlyn Meade and Donald Westfield (Michael Kelly). Saldaña recruits Marine Raider Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira). “You have no family, you have no friends, you were abused until you gave yourself to me,” Joe tells Cruz. “Now you have a purpose and it is noble.” Joe and Cruz head into a “situation unfolding in real time,” where they work to stop an impending terrorist attack.

If I had asked you to name a film from the early 1990s that featured groundbreaking visuals effects that changed the landscape of cinema, you probably answer with Jurassic Park. But what if I told you that instead of dinosaurs, an earlier pioneer in visual effects was a satirical black comedy involving Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and a magic potion? Yep, that’s right. That film does indeed exist and is none other than Death Becomes Her. Directed by the legendary Robert Zemeckis and co-written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan. The idea came to Koepp back when he was working on another film, which featured a story about a man’s attempts to kills his wife, who turns out to be a witch and cannot die. And of course, the witch has an axe to grind now that she knows her husband tried to off her. That idea later developed into Death Becomes Her.

It was previously announced Howerton would be joining Jay Baruchel in BlackBerry, which is the story of the Canadian corporation that created the revolutionary precursor to smartphones. Matt Johnson of Operation Avalanche will be stepping in the director’s chair for this project. “Archive 81” will not receive a second season on Netflix, TheWrap has learned.
The series, from creator Rebecca Sonnenshine, starred Mamoudou Athie as video archivist Dan Turner, who was restoring tapes in the present, originally shot by Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) in 1994 at the mysterious Visser apartment building.
In different timelines, both Dan and Melody uncover disturbing secrets about a destructive, demon-worshipping cult.
The series, which costarred Martin Donovan, Evan Jonigkeit, Julia Chan, Ariana Neal and Matt McGorry, was loosely inspired by the podcast of the same name.
Sonnenshine created the series and served as showrunner and executive producer. James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster also executive produced with Rebecca Thomas, Antoine Douaihy and Paul Harris Boardman.
The series, which debuted in January, ended on a cliffhanger that left Dan’s fate up in the air.
