- Coralie Fargeat was born on November 24, 1976 in Paris, France. She is a director and writer, known for The Substance (2024), Revenge (2017) and Reality+ (2014).
- [press conference for The Substance (2024) at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival] The Picture of Dorian Gray is one the interpretations of the story that comes from ages and is universal and kind of tells of human condition and what we experience as human beings, and here in this film, especially as women. So I love the idea to reinterpret it in my own world and with what I'm going through in my life. But I think those themes will always be relevant.
- [Cannes press conference for The Substance (2024), asked about influences for the film] Definitely The Fly (1986), The Shining (1980), The Thing (1982), every kind of genre film - also Paul Verhoeven - that went the full way, because that's really what I love to watch. When I was growing up it was really my way to get a sensation of freedom and to experience things. I've always seen in genre films a way to be excessive and to release some kind of craziness and energy that you don't get to have in your everyday life. And for sure, the body-related thing for everyone has a very strong resonance. I really grew up with those movies that I love, that fed me. I kind of digested them my own way and love to create my own world.
