Brother of Ben (1923-2003), Sylvia (b. 1924), Cyril (1928-1966), Corinne (b. 1935) and Anne Finestein (b. 1940).
Originally trained to be a civil engineer at King's College London. During World War II, he was conscripted as an army engineer and he worked in this profession for five years after leaving the army.
Sidelined as a professional painter.
