After Frand's death, his domestic partner of 32 years, Bill Bowersock, was forced to leave their home, since as two men, their partnership was not recognized as a marriage on the federal or state levels, and Bowersock was not eligible to receive Frand's Social Security benefits the way a heterosexual widower would have been. Bowersock allowed LA-based photographer and documentary filmmaker Shawn Nee to make a short film called "Thank You For Your Call" on his moving day to raise awareness of the lack of parity for gay couples who don't have marriage rights.
