The Fargo star, who recently wrapped production on House of Gucci and is set as the male lead in Amazon drama series Expats, is to star in and write the package, which is now being taken out to buyers by Shadowhunters producer Constantin Film.
The project, which has been in development for a while, will see Huston play Nicolas Cristo, a man broken, betrayed and locked away for over a decade, fighting to bring justice to a world even more cruel and corrupt than the one that was taken from him.

To become a leading martial arts movie star, you must fight your way to the top. And Mortal Kombat star Lewis Tan has paid his dues. He’s a second-generation Hollywood martial artist, with his father Philip Tan being a British Taekwondo champion who’s been acting and working in stunts since the 1980s, eventually rising to be a distinguished action director in his own right. It gave Lewis an early start.
He was only three when he appeared in his first film, China Cry: A True Story. He grew up in the business. His father set him on the martial path too, teaching him how to fight at an early age. Outside of acting, Tan competed as an amateur fighter in Muay Thai and trained in Kung Fu, Jiu-Jitsu, and Japanese sword. Due to his lifelong dedication to the martial arts, he insists on doing his own fights and stunts,...

Five competitive local titles have announced as of Monday that they will be vying for box office supremacy in China over the May 1 Labor Day weekend, a public holiday.
They include a long-anticipated video game adaptation, an omnibus pandemic film helmed by three different female big shots from China, Hong Kong and the U.S., a sleek Aaron Kwok-starring thriller, a TV series adaptation and the first title from helmer Li Yu not to star the now-disgraced Fan Bingbing in 14 years.
Their sales will be worth tracking, as holiday periods tend to be the most money-making in the world’s largest film market, where the February Chinese New Year box office set world records with an impressive $1.2 billion in sales in just six days.

Benny Chan, widely regarded as one of Hong Kong’s leading action directors, has died aged 58.
Chan was suffering from nasopharyngeal cancer. He had fallen ill while shooting Raging Fire, starring Nicolas Tse and Donnie Yen last year, and handed post-production of the film to his colleagues. He had spent the last few months hospitalised in Hong Kong.
Chan’s career started at Hong Kong broadcaster Tvb where he worked as an assistant director to Johnnie To and later became a director.

Exclusive: Writer/producer Latoya Morgan has signed a major exclusive overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group.
Wbtvg landed Morgan in a competitive situation. No one is commenting but I hear the deal is for three years and is valued in the high-seven figures.
Under the pact, Morgan will develop, write and produce new television projects via her newly launched TinkerToy Productions for all platforms — on-demand/streaming services (including WarnerMedia’s HBO Max), broadcast, premium and basic cable networks.
Morgan is already in business with Wbtvg. She is collaborating with J.J. Abrams and his studio-based Bad Robot banner on Duster. Morgan and Abrams are co-writing and executive producing the drama project, which has a series order at HBO Max. Set in the 1970s Southwest, Duster revolves around the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate that goes from awful to wildly,...

The Hong Kong- Taiwanese director Yonfan was awarded the Best Script Award for his first animation feature-length film “N°7 Cherry Lane” at the 76th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, a complex love triangle story set at the backdrop of the Hong Kong protests in 1967. Highly erotic and brave in exploring the mechanisms of love relationships, the film is loaded with film-, literature and art references and never short of surprises.
We spoke to Yonfan after the first press screening of his film at the Venice International Film Festival in an emotionally laden interview that hid a surprise or two.

Cherries aren’t the first fruit that come to mind when watching “No. 7 Cherry Lane.” In an entirely welcome way, veteran Hong Kong auteur Yonfan’s first film in a decade (as well as his first foray into feature animation) can better be described as a bowl of bright, aromatic and very, very ripe bananas. As entrancingly singular as it is steeped in pastiche, this frequently dream-distracted vision of young love against the turmoil of the 1967 Hong Kong riots practically defies critics not to resort to that hoarily overused term “valentine to cinema”: If a film containing no fewer than three lengthy cartoon reenactments of Simone Signoret classics doesn’t merit it, what does? Many will be left bewildered by the sheer, deranged obsessiveness of Yonfan’s nostalgia head-trip — indeed, there were whistles and walkouts at its first Venice press screening — but accustomed Yon-fans and patient adventurers will fall madly for its madness.

Hong Kong cinema expands its borders once more and brings us a new fast paced action/adventure film, starring the one and only Andy Lau and international known French actor Jean Reno. “The Adventurers” is the latest film by Stephen Fung, and it was known for some time to be a emake of the classic John Woo’s flick “Once a Thief”. The plot is, in spirit, very similar, but it is not a remake in its whole, just an action flick with a similar plot that plays in the same league.
“The Adventurers” is about a thief who has just been released from prison. Then, he brings together a team of professionals to make a final big score which will make them millionaires. The job is simple: steal the important jewel “The Rope of Life”, the last of the three pieces that form the invaluable Gaia necklace.

AMC’s martial arts drama Into the Badlands will end after the upcoming final eight episodes of its third season, which will debut March 24. The network also has set an April 24 premiere date for Season 2 of drama The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan, which will be its last.
Neither cancellation is particularly surprising. Both Into the Bandlands and The Son were renewed for Season 3 and Season 2, respectively, almost two years ago. Into the Badlands’ 16-episode third season was completed awhile ago, the cast was released, and a number of them have taken on new acting gigs. As for The Son, as a Western, it did draw respectable viewership though it was old-skewing. Additionally, I hear star Brosnon only had signed a short-term contract which is the case with many movie stars who do TV series these days.

Yonfan, prince of sensuous Hong Kong cinema, will make a return to the big screen this year with his first new feature in a decade. The picture will be his first animation.
“No. 7 Cherry Lane,” is the story of a love triangle involving a university student, a single mother and her teenage daughter. It is set in 1967, a year of political turmoil in Hong Kong, which at the time was a British colony. Yonfan, who moved to the territory in 1965 as a young man, describes the film as his love letter to Hong Kong and to cinema.
Yonfan, whose movie credits include “Bishonen,” “Peony Pavilion” and “Color Blossoms,” has spent much of his time since 2009 Venice competition film “Prince of Tears” on photography, art and publishing. Hong Kong cinema expands its borders once more and brings us a new fast paced action/adventure film, starring the one and only Andy Lau and international known French actor Jean Reno. “The Adventurers” is the latest film by Stephen Fung, and it was known for some time to be a remake of the classic John Woo’s flick “Once a Thief”. The plot is, in spirit, very similar, but it is not a remake in its whole, just a similar action flick with a similar plot that plays in the same league.
“The Adventurers” will screen at at the 9th International Chinese Film Festival, that will be on 23 February to 28, 2018.

Contemporary Chinese Cinema is a column devoted to exploring contemporary Chinese-language cinema primarily as it is revealed to us at North American multiplexes.Over the last few years it has become increasingly easy to see mainstream Asian films in North America at the same time they are released in their home countries. Thanks to partnerships with small, international distributors, the major multiplex chains (AMC, Cinemark, Regal) have devoted a handful of screens in major markets to showing new releases from India, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Most of these titles fall under the radar of both critics and audiences outside the diasporic communities to which they are targeted. They play for a week or two and then disappear, outside of a handful of breakout titles. Last year Stephen Chow’s The Mermaid made headlines for its high per-screen averages in North America as it shattered domestic box office records in China.

If Tom Cruise can jet around the globe breaking into high-security vaults in his fifties, then so can Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau, or so goes the thinking. The trouble is, Lau doesn’t have the clever machinations of Mission: Impossible or a stellar villain to rival Philip Seymour Hoffman to play with in The Adventurers, the latest brazenly mindless softball by actor-turned-director Stephen Fung. An unapologetic modern rehash of the sunny European adventure of John Woo’s Once a Thief, with a dash of M:i and maybe even a little Fast & Furious for good measure, The Adventurers is every bit...

"The operation is compromised." Well Go USA has debuted an official Us trailer for the Chinese action heist movie called The Adventurers, from director Stephen Fung. The action-packed film is about three of the world's top thieves, played by Andy Lau, Tony Yang, and Shu Qi, who band together to pull off the "heist of a lifetime." But hot on their trailer is a French detective, played Jean Reno of course, who chases them all over Europe. The full cast Jingchu Zhang, Eric Tsang, Tony Yo-ning Yang, David Bowles, and Yi Sha. This definitely looks slick, kind of like a Hollywood action heist movie with some cool set pieces and locations, but I hope it's actually good. Seems like it's going to be super cheesy, a little too much Hollywood. Here's the official Us trailer (+ international poster) for Stephen Fung's The Adventurers, from YouTube: In this slick, high-stakes action-adventure,...

AMC is showing the love for Into the Badlands.
The beautifully filmed martial arts drama has just been renewed for a super-sized third season.
While Into the Badlands Season 1 consisted of six episodes and Into the Badlands Season 2 is currently at 10, Into the Badlands Season 3 will have a whopping 16 episodes for your exhaustion and enjoyment!
The series, which stars Daniel Wu, will return in 2018.
This renewal is quite a change from the second season renewal. Season 2 is currently airing.
Season 1 initially aired in 2015 and viewers had to wait until well into 2016 to get news of a renewal.
This could have something to do with the ratings. It's averaging 3.6 million total viewers and a 2.1 share of viewers 21-54 after three days of time-shifted viewing.
It's also the #4 scripted drama on cable as well as the fourth-ranked returning drama, behind only The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and Fear the Walking Dead.

Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau is in hospital and will need 6 to 9 months to fully recover from multiple pelvic fractures and muscle / tendon injuries that were sustained from an accident while shooting a commercial in Thailand last week.
The accident happened when the horse Lau was riding threw him off and stepped on his back. He was flown back to Hong Kong for medical treatment last Wednesday evening.
There have been speculations by the local media on the extent of his injuries and the actor only spoke publicly today for the first time since the accident.
“I will fully comply with the recommendations of the medical team,” Lau wrote in his blog. “I know your pain will not be any less than mine. I will rest quietly and quickly get better!”
Lau was most recently seen in Zhang Yimou’s “The Great Wall“, in which he stars alongside Matt Damon.

Before long, we will be hearing much more about action auteur John Woo's latest efforts with the adaptation of Sato Junya 70's thriller, Manhunt. In the meantime, Woo's is a source for much ado with remakes as of late with Stephen Fung long tapped to helm his own iteration of Woo's 1986 signature Hong Kong crime classic, A Better Tomorrow. That film, headlining actor Chow Yun Fat and starring Ti Lung and Leslie Cheung as two brothers on opposite sides of the law amid a tumultuous crime story that forsees a test family, friendship and brotherhood against a duplicitous triad crime boss, went on to two sequels, a Hindi remake in '94 and a South Korean remake in 2010. Into the Badlands, Season 1
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar
Aired Sundays at 10pm (Et) on AMC
With The Walking Dead going six seasons strong and counting, AMC, an immensely popular and successful network, clearly has no qualms about getting its hands a little dirty. If there is quality television to be made out of material that would fit right in with good old-fashioned grindhouse motion pictures, AMC is ready and willing to capitalize on it. If the zombie apocalypse is not one’s cup of tea, then perhaps a trip Into the Badlands is. Taking several cues straight out of the old fantastical martial arts adventures that were all the craze in the 1970s, the show, created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, relishes in telling a reasonably large scale action-drama set in a world where severe punishment comes at the tip of a sword or the landing of a bone crunching kick.

A man on a motorcycle blazes down a long, empty road, framed by fiery poppy fields. The rider, wearing a leather duster stained the deep crimson of dried blood, a sword slung across his back, doesn't seem fazed by a line of corpses littered on the lane's shoulder. The stranger barely blinks when he encounters a large group of surly bandits, quickly demolishing the gang in a showcase of shattered joints, broken spines, and slashing blades; one unlucky sap is impaled on the spit for his own roast pig.
