    • Trivia
In 2013, Kyla entered Tracy "Twinkie" Byrd's (Fruitvale Station, Being Mary Jane, Notorious, Sparkle) Monologue Slam for the Hollywood Black Film Festival. Hundreds of actors submitted a two minute monologue via YouTube which were all viewed by Twinkie, herself. Byrd chose twelve finalists who were then invited to perform their pieces live at the W Hotel at HBFF. The finalists performed in front of a celebrity judge panel including Bill Duke, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Jason George, and Naturi Naughton. The event was hosted by Teck Holmes. Kyla performed her original monologue submission of 'Boochie' from Stephen Adley Guirgis' "Den of Thieves," made it to the top three, and was asked to perform a second monologue. She performed a speech from "Romeo and Juliet' and went on to win the entire competition to a standing ovation.
