Updated with clarification: Two more local SAG-AFTRA presidencies have been decided: Jim Gleason won a squeaker in New Orleans, and Rik Deskin won handily in Seattle. Deskin, who defeated Peter M. Wallack by a vote of 158-62, is a prominent supporter of Fran Drescher, who’s running for SAG-AFTRA national president.
Gleason, who defeated Olga Wilhelmine in New Orleans by only eight votes – 120-112 – is a supporter of national presidential candidate Matthew Modine’s MembershipFirst slate. An earlier version of this story noted that Gleason, who won in New Orleans without even posting a candidate’s statement on the ballot, does not appear to be aligned with either faction. Gleason, however, does support Modine for national president, and his running mate, Joely Fisher for national secretary-treasurer.
“I don’t belong to any SAG-AFTRA political faction,” Gleason said last month in an email to his supporters. “I’m not running...

Oprah Winfrey to help ‘The Butler’ top the domestic box office? (Photo: Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard in ‘The Butler’) About a week ago, Oprah Winfrey was in the news for being told that a $38,000 crocodile-skin purse at a store in Zurich wasn’t really for her. The uproar was related to racism: possibly, supposedly, maybe the saleswoman-for-the-filthy-rich felt that a black woman wouldn’t be able to afford a $38,000 crocodile-skin purse, even though those stores for the disgustingly megarich — I mean, $38,000 for a goddamned purse? Crocodile skin? — surely cater to the wives and mistresses and aunts of megarich African entrepreneurs and dictators alike. Fast forward a week or so and … Oprah Winfrey is back in the news as a result of another "incident" related to ethnic issues: the weekend debut of Lee Daniels’ The Weinstein Company-distributed The Butler, about a black butler in the appropriately named White House. The Butler...

Castle (Nathan Fillion) tries on his space cowboy outfit from his time on Firefly. Alexis (Molly Quinn) says he wore it five years ago. "Don't you think you should move on?" She's reading the Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe which should have been a clue to Castle's outfit at the end. She's skipping his Hallowe'en party this year. She's looking after a baby egg for school, called Fagin. Beckett (Stana Katic) calls about a case. A man is found in the cemetery with a stake though him. Castle loves this time of year. He also loves walking in cemeteries since there are so many stories behind the graves, pointing out one called Elizabeth Dryden, but there's no year for when she died, which of course was another clue for the current case. Castle 'looks like Buffy visited.' Lanie (Tamala Jones) thinks the Db hit his...

"We're Alive" is a horror themed webseries from directors Kc Wayland and Shane Salk. This series has been running since at least 2010 and likely longer. Currently, this zombie survival showing is into its second season and this reviewer wanted to pass along a few notes on this thrilling fantasy adventure.
The first two chapters break down a pandemic in a zombiefying Los Angeles, with soldiers Michael (Jim Gleason), Angel (Shane Salk), and Saul (Nate Geez) searching for a safe place to bunk. Instead, they find more survivors and the early chapters deal with these characters settling into a large apartment building, called the Tower.
The action is tense early in Chapter 1 and the characterizations develop more in the second chapter. So far, this series has hooked this zombie follower and if you enjoy this genre, head over to "We're Alive" for a free-to-use podcast. The link details are below, along...
