Rom-coms are my favorite genre because when they really work, they deliver one of the best story experiences. Put simply, they both make me laugh and move me emotionally. Now, I’m not talking about the made-for-tv kind with generic meet-cutes and soft lighting, but the real deal: big-screen, laugh-out-loud, emotionally layered stories that actually stick with you.

So I started digging across the streamers, looking for the good ones. And while it’s obviously subjective, the best collection I found was on Hulu. Not the most rom-coms, but the right ones for me — a killer mix of 2000s nostalgia, indie hits, and buzzy modern entries that all hit that sweet spot. U.K. production, sales and distribution outfit Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Irish rights to Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight) and Pierce Brosnan’s (The World Is Not Enough) Western The Unholy Trinity from Film Bridge International.

The movie is set in the 1870s and tells the story of “a young man (who) returns to a Montana town to avenge the wrongful execution of his father and reclaim his fortune,” according to a synopsis. It also features David Arquette (Scream 3), Brandon Lessard (Classified) and Gianni Capaldi (Damaged).

The film, produced by Jeanne Allgood (Terminator Salvation), Kellie Brooks, Colin Floom (The Old Way), Michele Gray (Sugar Mountain) and Richard Gray (Murder at Yellowstone City), was written by Lee Zachariah (The Bazura Project) and directed by Gray.

The deal was negotiated between Signature Entertainment’s acquisitions and development executive Max Hart and Film Bridge International managing director Jordan Dykstra.

Erivo is introduced here playing Amber Kazinsky, a trodden-upon woman who finds out she's about to be denied her inheritance from her mean, dying mother. Turns out the money will instead be given to Amber's long-lost sibling Felicity, also played by Erivo. After Amber begins a scheme to kill Felicity and take over her life, the episode introduces us to Amber's other sister Didi, once again played by Erivo. We're soon introduced to Cece and Phoebe Kazinsky, and you're never gonna believe who plays those two. Long-time Erivo fans have known that the actress can do a lot more than play Elphaba from "Wicked," but now casual viewers know it too.

Exclusive: Leading indie production finance company Tpc has planted a flag in another major hub, acquiring Australian group Mind the Gap Film Finance.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed for the deal, which follows Tpc’s expansion into the U.K., where it recently launched operations, and its acquisition of Media Capital Group in Vancouver.

The teen romance film would also become a hit as it opened second at the box office (having gone up against The Matrix) and grossed over $50 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. It would also spawn a TV show adaptation on ABC Family in 2009. Deadline is reporting that the director of the original film, Gil Junger, is now planning to make a sequel trilogy to the 1999 comedy.

The sequel trilogy will also have a nod to the late star, Heath Ledger, who played the school’s rebellious student, Patrick Verona.

The film stars Yen, Julian Cheung (The Grandmaster), Francis Ng (Infernal Affairs II), Kent Cheng (Why Me?), Michael Hui (Teppanyaki), and Kong Lau (Hard Boiled).

The action movie, inspired by an actual legal case in Hong Kong, follows a man who pleads guilty to drug trafficking after being framed. “Despite the confession, the veteran policeman-turned-prosecutor handling the case is convinced of the man’s innocence and pursues his own investigation, risking both his career and his life to bring the real perpetrator to justice,” according to a plot synopsis.

In a new interview, the filmmaker revealed he is co-writing a script alongside Naya Elle James that they have titled 10 Things I Hate About Dating. The film would be the first of three with subsequent installments titled 10 Things I Hate About Marriage and 10 Things I Hate About Kids.

Natasha Lyonne is set to make her feature directorial debut — with a big assist from artificial intelligence.

The “Poker Face” star is teaming up with Brit Marling and renowned computer scientist Jaron Lanier to create “Uncanny Valley,” a “hybrid film” that combines live action and AI. The new flick was announced on Tuesday by Asteria Studios, the self-described “ethical AI film and animation studio” that Lyonne co-founded alongside Bryn Mooser.

“Uncanny Valley,” per a release from Asteria, will be “powered by ‘Marey,’ the first clean foundational AI model developed by the engineers at Moonvalley, ensuring creative integrity and copyright transparency.”

Described as a “terrifying new genre film,” Pendulum follows young couple Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail (Dynevor) on a journey to a new-age retreat in New Mexico, drawn by the possibility of healing after a traumatic event.

Patrick is willing to do anything to help his wife but becomes distrustful of the retreat’s enigmatic leader even as Abigail falls under her spell. As paranoia builds, the couple must determine if the group’s unconventional spiritual practices offer genuine healing – or mask a terrifying truth that threatens to consume them both.

Reedus plays the couple’s friend who introduces them to the retreat.

10 Things I Hate About You, the beloved ’90s rom-com, is being adapted into a Broadway musical. Pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen and Girls creator and writer Lena Dunham are attached to write the show’s score and book, respectively, after long-circulating rumors.

Jepsen will co-write the score with Ethan Gruska, whom she’s worked with on her last project The Loveliest Time. Dunham will co-write the book with Jessica Huang (The Paper Dream of Harry Chin), reports Billboard. Mike Bosner is set to produce the show, having recently helmed the 2022 starchy musical Shucked! and 2014’s jukebox biographical show Beautiful — The Carole King Musical.
