Best remembered in Britain for the television series Arthur of the Britons (1972), Ken Russell's The Devils (1971) and as the villain in For Your Eyes Only (1981). His break into films came with Don Levy's Herostratus (1967). His career was intermittently successful, interspersing notable performances with spells of unemployment. Michael was unmarried, living in Hampstead, London, and under treatment for depression at the time of his suicide in 1992.

Did you know

Edit
  • Trivia
He was being treated for depression at the time of his death.
  • Quotes
I can't leave the profession - I have needs like everyone else. But I would have preferred to follow something more solitary that didn't depend upon an entire organization to make it happen. In filming many people directly affect the outcome of your performance on screen. An actor is just a cog, after all.
  • Trademark
      His deep, hard voice
