Despite a long and varied career, he is probably best known for a role he did *not* play, since a number of reference works incorrectly identify him as having played Little Maria's father in Frankenstein (1931)

Short, stocky Irish-born character actor, who made his career in Hollywood. Replete with bushy moustache, he often played affable cockney innkeepers, stewards or bartenders.

He died of complications from pneumonia.
