While attending the third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival, Wayne Borg, managing director of media industries, entertainment and culture at Neom, sat down with U.S. producer Eric Hedayat and Variety‘s Italy and Middle East correspondent Nick Vivarelli to discuss Neom’s key role in Saudi Arabia’s entertainment industry boom.
Coupling state-of-the-art infrastructure with Saudi Arabia’s enticing 40% tax rebate, Neom has solidified itself as a major entertainment and media production hub not only locally to Saudi but internationally in the last two years.
“[Neom] is about critical mass of infrastructure, stages, support facilities and workshops,” said Borg about the fundamental principles of the company. “It’s about a competitive, super attractive production incentive scheme and ensuring the depth and breadth of workers to support the influx of productions we are experiencing now. And, finally, it’s about getting out of the way.”

The weekend’s two box office openers are coming in a far cry apart, with “Hotel Transylvania 3” soaring to an estimated $41 million from 4,267 sites while Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” heads for a stale $25 million from 3,782 domestic locations.
“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation’s” estimate places it at the top of the box office, with Disney-Marvel’s latest installment, “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” looking to nab the second place spot in its sophomore weekend with an estimated $28 million from 4,206 theaters. That leaves Universal’s “Skyscraper” in third.
“Incredibles 2” will again battle it out with “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” for the fourth place slot, with each likely to bring in around $15 million.
“Hotel Transylvania 3” earned $16.65 million on Friday for Sony. The first “Hotel Transylvania” debuted with $42.5 million in North America in 2012 and earned $358.4 million globally by the end of its run. “Hotel Transylvania 2” launched with $48.5 million domestically in...

Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” is heading for a box office victory while Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” is badly under-performing at the North American box office, early estimates showed Friday.
“Hotel Transylvania 3” will finish in the middle of forecasts with projections between $40 million to $44 million at 4,267 sites, while “Skyscraper” should finish at about $23 million — well below recent projections in the $33 million to $40 million range. “Skyscraper” looked likely to finish in a distant third place behind the second weekend of Disney-Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” which is expected to decline 59% to $31 million.
“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” is the first animated comedy to open since Disney-Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” launched on June 15. “Incredibles 2” has become a smash hit and should finish the weekend at about $534 million domestically.

Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Skyscraper’ to Tackle ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ ‘Hotel Transylvania 3’ at Box Office
The domestic box office will be a battle between the Rock and a tropical place.
New entries “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” and Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” will compete with the second weekend of “Ant-Man and the Wasp” as all three head for $30 million-plus outings. The two box office newcomers hope to offer audiences something different during a popcorn season dominated by Spandexed heroes and raging dinosaurs, but this weekend’s results look to be a cliffhanger.
“Hotel Transylvania 3” looks to check in with around $38 million, though it could make as much as $48 million when it opens in 4,200 locations. The latter part of that range would be in line with the debut of its predecessors. “Hotel Transylvania” bowed in 2012 with $42 million, while its 2015 follow-up got a slight headstart with $48 million. The two animated features pocketed $358 million and $473 million worldwide, respectively. Each film in the franchise has had an $80 million price tag.

Universal Pictures has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Dwayne Johnson action film, ‘Skyscraper‘. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the film stars Johnson as a former FBI man who now assesses the security of high tech skyscrapers. Of course, things go wrong, and the rock has to flex his muscles to fix the situation. All joking aside, ‘Skyscraper’ is in essence a combination of the plot of ‘The Towering Inferno‘ mixed with the tone and characters of ‘Die Hard‘.
It’s a fun premise, but I’m not sure if these trailers so far completely nail the tone for me. The film seems to be a little too self-aware for my taste, not only in it’s similarities between the aforementioned films, but also the overall cheeky nature of the phone. With that said, I would like to highlight that the all-too underutilized Neve Campbell looks to have...

"No one really knows what would happen if things went wrong." Dwayne Johnson discovers (the hard way) how the world's tallest structure reacts to metal-melting fires in the new trailer for Skyscraper, coming to Us theaters on July 13th from Universal Pictures:

A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building...above the fire line.
