Netflix unveiled the Straw trailer on May 14, highlighting Henson's main character, Janiyah, a struggling single mother pushed to her breaking point as she risks her freedom to care for her sick daughter. The trailer shows a conflicted Janiyah apologize as she's shown holding a gun in a bank, saying, "I didn't mean to do this. Something inside of me broke." As previously announced, the starry program for the 31st Cannes gala features a headline performance by Duran Duran and host Taraji P. Henson. The gala, which takes place annually at the tail end of the Cannes Film Festival, is set for the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc on May 22.

The dependably sardonic Bateman set up a trailer for their new series, Black Rabbit, as Law played his part and pushed one of the streamer’s chosen slogans of the day: “Welcome to the center of attention.”

Compared to Disney, which filled a convention hall at the Javits Center, and NBCUniversal, which took over Radio City Music Hall, Netflix’s presentation felt downright cozy.

Jude Law and Jason Bateman opened the show with some discussion of Netflix’s reach and programming before some playful banter and hyping up their new drama series “Black Rabbit.”

“She’s just trying to survive, just trying to be a great mother to her daughter, and then the circumstances in her life cause her to be in this situation,” Perry tells Netflix. “I think that a lot of people around the world, no matter if you’re a Black woman or not, will be able to relate to that feeling of, ‘I’m at my last straw.’”

Time and ABC have found the host for this year’s Time100 primetime special.

Time Studios, the TV and film arm of Time magazine, says that Snoop Dogg will host this year’s Time100 gala, which will be held this month in New York. Ed Sheeran and Myles Smith are also set to perform at the gala, which will be held April 24 and air on ABC May 4.

Last year’s Time100 gala was hosted by Taraji P. Henson, with Dua Lipa and Fantasia Barrino performing.

Time released its annual Time100 list Wednesday, with Snoop and Sheeran among the honorees. As has become a tradition, Time has notable figures write the profiles of honorees. This year’s list sees Hoda Kotb writing about Snoop, with Chris Hemsworth writing about Sheeran.

Other pairings include Kristen Bell by Ted Danson, Adam Scott by Nick Offerman, Blake Lively by Sherrilyn Ifill, and Nikki Glaser by Ali Wong.

Leslie Siebert was recently named sole president of the Gersh Agency, which reps a wide range of actors, writers, directors and artisans, including Angela Bassett, Jacob Elordi and Hiroyuki Sanada.

The boost that came last month makes Siebert the first woman to lead a major Hollywood talent agency. It comes nearly two years after Gersh received an investment from private equity firm Crestview Partners. Since then, the agency founded in the late 1940s by famed talent rep Phil Gersh has acquired the Madrid-based You First sports agency and the digital and alternative departments of what was formerly the A3 agency.

Halle Berry has said she now believes her historic Oscars win in 2002, for Monster’s Ball, was an anomaly, and that fellow black female actors should therefore stop “coveting” Academy Awards.

Berry, now 58, is the only black woman to have won the leading actress Oscar in the awards’ nearly 100 year history. Cynthia Erivo’s nomination for Wicked earlier this year marks the first time a woman of colour has been nominated for the leading actress Oscar more than once (she was previously nominated for Harriet). Only 15 black women have ever been in contention for the prize.

Halle Berry is opening up about being the first — and only — Black woman to have won the Oscar for best actress in the nearly 100-year history of the Academy Awards.

In the Apple TV+ documentary Number One on the Call Sheet, Berry reflects on what has happened since she won the Oscar in 2002, for her role in Monster’s Ball. In that time, no other Black actress has taken home the award.

“It’s forced me to ask myself, did it matter?” Berry asks. “Did it really change anything for women of color? For my sisters? For our journey?”

The documentary shows a montage of Black actresses losing out to white women at the Oscars. Overall, 13 Black actresses have been nominated for the honor, including, most recently, Cynthia Erivo, who’s been nominated twice. This year, Erivo was nominated for her role in Wicked but lost to Anora star Mikey Madison.

CNN has found a home for its happy place.

The network will premiere the original series My Happy Place on April 27 at 10pm Et/Pt. The show follows stars as they reveal why specific destinations have become their sanctuaries.

Each episode will be fronted by a different celebrity, with The Traitors host Alan Cumming opening the Boardwalk Pictures-produced series by taking viewers around the Highlands in Scotland.

The starry program for amfAR’s 31st Cannes gala is starting to take shape with Duran Duran booked for a headline performance and Tajari P. Henson on board to host the festivities.

The gala, which takes place annually at the tail end of the Cannes Film Festival, is set to take place at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc on May 22. The gig brings Duran Duran back into the amfAR fold after having performed at the Cannes gala in 2013.

“We are so excited to have the iconic Duran Duran back with us at amfAR gala Cannes and we are grateful for their longstanding support of our work,” offered amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost. “We are also thrilled that the incomparable Taraji P. Henson has graciously agreed to act as host for the evening.”

Said Henson in a statement: “I am proud and excited to be supporting amfAR at this year’s Cannes benefit gala.

On March 17, Jeremy Zimmer, the co-founder and CEO of UTA, informed staff at the agency that he would be stepping aside.

In a choreographed succession maneuver, 66-year-old Zimmer named the 56-year-old David Kramer (who he had elevated to president of UTA just a couple years prior) his successor at the agency. Zimmer told staff that he would stick around for the year as executive chairman, and remain on the UTA board.

“Let’s be honest, the chances that I’m going to start an aluminum company in Alaska or a cement company in Cleveland are pretty slim. So this is not goodbye,” he quipped in his note to staff.

Zimmer’s exit and Kramer’s ascension, however, comes at an intriguing moment for talent agencies, which are seeking to adapt to the new world of media just as much as Hollywood writ large.
