A few weeks ago, we heard that The CW had cancelled the Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters after just one season – which wasn’t a major surprise, since The CW is under new management that is looking to wipe the slate clean for the most part. But being cancelled by The CW didn’t necessarily have to mean that The Winchesters was dead, because the show’s producers at Warner Bros. Television had the chance to find a new home for it on another network or at a streaming service. Unfortunately, Deadline reports that no one was interested in picking up The Winchesters, so the show is now officially over.
The Winchesters came from Warner Bros Television and CBS Studios. Glen Winter (Supergirl) directed and executive produced the pilot episode. This show was executive produced by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel through their company Chaos Machine Productions.

Starring Meg Donnelly, Drake Rodger, Jonathan ”JoJo” Fleites, Nida Khurshid, Demetria McKinney, Bianca Kajlich, and Jensen Ackles (as narrator), the series follows the story of how John and Mary Winchester met, fell in love, and searched for their fathers while fighting monsters together.

A couple months ago, Robbie Thompson – showrunner of the Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters – expressed uncertainty as to whether or not his show was going to get a second season now that The CW is being retooled. Now it’s official: The CW has cancelled The Winchesters after just one season.
Kung Fu has also been cancelled after three seasons. The CW provided the following statement to Variety: “As we reimagine the new CW, we had to make some tough programming decisions. We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.“
The Winchesters‘ chance of continuing appeared to drop in a major way once Mark Pedowitz left as head of the network. Supernatural was already in its sixth season when Pedowitz joined The CW, but he was an established fan who had seen every episode to date.

The hunt is over for The Winchesters: The CW has cancelled the Supernatural prequel spinoff after just one season, TVLine has learned. (The network on Thursday also pulled the plug on Kung Fu.)

“The Winchesters” has been canceled after one season at The CW, with the network also canceling the reboot of “Kung Fu” after three seasons.
“As we reimagine the new CW, we had to make some tough programming decisions,” The CW said in a statement. “We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘The Winchesters’ for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.”
The “Supernatural” prequel series “The Winchesters” followed demon hunters Sam and Dean’s parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly), telling the story of how the couple met as teens and how they ultimately came together to save the entire world. The story is told from Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) perspective, marking the first return of Ackles’ character since the series finale in November of 2020.
In addition to Rodger and Donnelly, Bianca Kajlich, Demetria McKinney, and Nida Khurshid also starred.

The CW series Supernatural was already in its sixth season when Mark Pedowitz became head of the network, but he was an established fan who had seen every episode to date. And as the series continued through the 15 season run that Pedowitz enabled, the network head was so supportive that Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles – who played monster-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester on the show – came to think of him as “the other Winchester”. Pedowitz was still the head of The CW when the Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters was ordered, but last year Nexstar Media Group acquired a controlling interest in the network and Pedowitz exited his post. The Winchesters‘ first season just finished airing, and showrunner Robbie Thompson told TV Line he’s not sure if there will be a season 2 at The CW now that Pedowitz is gone.

It is often said there are no small parts, and that is absolutely the case on the best shows this year.
Every one of the shows on this TV Fanatic team-compiled list sports a collective of talented cast members portraying dynamic characters involved in complex relationships and life situations.
These ensembles run the gamut from comedy to sci-fi to soaring intergenerational drama, but they are unified in how every performer leans in on the team effort, supporting each other to create a show greater than the sum of their lines.
No specific streamer or network holds all the cards when it comes to tight-knit and inspiring ensemble casts.
Instead, it's clear that successful showrunners are smart in selecting actors they sense will work well together, pulling in the same direction and telling stories with fulsome and genuine performances.

Why, he’s playing none other than Samuel Campbell, Mary’s father. This also makes him Sam and Dean’s maternal grandfather, hence the genetic handsomeness.

[Warning: The following contains plot points from The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 4, “Masters of War.” So if you don’t want to be spoiled, maybe there’s a support group for ya?] War is hell, and it wreaked havoc on John Winchester (Drake Rodger) this week as our newbie demon hunter was drawn into a case involving former military members being preyed upon by an evil force. After he and Carlos (Jojo Fleites) went undercover in an experimental support group for veterans, the emotional trauma John has been carrying since Vietnam began to resurface, leading to an hour that messed with his head…and our hearts. Because while John and Los each battled with demons — inner and outer — we got more insight into how John’s mother Millie (Bianca Kajlich) was actually handling her son’s clearly shattered psyche. The Winchesters is adding another familiar face for fans of Supernatural.
The prequel series has locked in Gil McKinney for an upcoming episode of the freshman drama, TV Line reports.
If you watch Supernatural online, you know McKinney portrayed Dean and Sam's paternal grandfather Henry Winchester.
McKinney read a letter that Henry wrote him on The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 1, which premiered earlier this week as The CW's most-watched series debut of the season.
Henry is described as “the intellectual patriarch of the Winchester clan."
“Having come from a long line of Men of Letters, Henry fully dedicated his life to the institution," reads the description.
"However, when a Men of Letters’ mission leads to Henry’s untimely death, his absence and the secrecy surrounding his life inside the organization creates an unrepairable rift in his family."

The Supernatural journey finally continues!
The series premiere of The Winchesters is here, and it was nothing short of the supernatural.
On The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 1, John Winchester and Mary Campbell meet for the first time, and their lives are changed forever.
As a Supernatural fan, I can say with my whole heart that The Winchesters is such a great series.
Like a lot of fans, I was weary with how they would tell John and Mary's story since what was shown on Supernatural is different from the prequel series.
But this story, as different as it is, is so fresh and new and still keeps you glued to the screen.
Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly portray John and Mary, taking up the mantles from Matthew Cohen and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Amy Gumenick and Samantha Smith.

Tom Welling will be pulling double duty on The CW this fall.
News broke Sunday during the New York Comic Con panel for The Winchesters that Welling had booked a role on the forthcoming Supernatural spinoff.
Welling is best known for playing Clark Kent on The WB/CW's Smallville.
According to TV Line, the actor will play Samuel Campbell. If you watch Supernatural online, you know Mitch Pileggi originated the role on the original series.

I was 12 years old in 1998. My family rarely went to the movies, but I begged my mom to take me to see Halloween H20. Loaded up on popcorn and soda, I settled into my seat and readied myself for what was promised as the final showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. Even now, I can recall the swelling energy in the theater and the way everyone screamed and laughed in all the right places. And how the triumphant finale sent a wave of applause and cheers through the crowd. It was and is one of the most special theater-going experiences of my life. When Laurie chopped off Michael’s head, it was a victorious moment for the audience as much as the character. It was the definitive ending to a series that had lost its way.
Twenty-four years since its release, Halloween H20 remains the perfect ending to the Michael Myers trifecta: the 1978 original,...

The CW has two new shows — with ties to fan-favorites — joining its primetime lineup this fall, and the network has released extended trailers for both. The Supernatural prequel The Winchesters will be leading off Tuesdays and tell the story of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly), with Ackles narrating and executive producing. Then, Walker Independence, set in the late 1800s, follows Walker on Thursdays to take over the night, with Padalecki (who plays Cordell) executive producing and Katherine McNamara starring as Abby Walker. The Winchesters “Saving people, hunting things…” Supernatural fans will find a lot to love in the trailer — bookended with Dean and Baby — that shows how John Winchester met Mary Campbell and got introduced to the world of hunting, despite his mother Millie (Bianca Kajlich) attempt to protect her son from getting into that life. It’s all change at The CW after the youth-skewing broadcaster unveiled its fall 2022/23 schedule.
It will be a transitional year for the network, which downsized the number of original series that airs, and this is reflected in its schedule.
The big headlines include the final season of Riverdale is moving to midseason along with its Tuesday night sibling The Flash and will be replaced by new series Supernatural prequel The Winchesters and international acquisition Professionals. Nancy Drew is also moving out of the fall, where it has aired on Friday nights, also shifting to midseason.
The third season of Stargirl will move out of the summer and will be placed on Wednesdays in the fall alongside Kung Fu, which had previously aired in midseason.
Franchise nights include a double header all All American and its All American: Homecoming spinoff on Mondays and Walker and spinoff Walker Independence on Thursdays.

An upcoming episode of Legacies is set to pay homage to the shows that came before it.
The CW has scheduled Legacies Season 3 Episode 3, titled "Salvatore: The Musical," an episode that was set to air as one of the final episodes of Legacies Season 2.
But, as you know, the episodes have been tacked on to Legacies Season 3 due to the Covid-19 pandemic shuttering production for months.
Last year, Legacies executive producer, Brett Matthews, revealed news of the musical in an interview with TV Guide.
"Episode 19 is our grand musical episode," Mathews told TV Guide at the time.
"We try to do a musical a year, and it's a musical that will sort of revisit our legacies -- the legacy of the show, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals."
It is set to air on February 4th.

We are just weeks away from our return visit to the Salvatore School, Legacies fanatics.
The last fresh episode aired way back in March, and we left the characters in a precarious situation.

As a TV series, Psych is like one of those frozen yogurt chains where the wall is ringed with different flavors and you can keep pulling levers for whatever combination you want. There are the Shawn/Gus episodes, the “Shawn’s psychic lie is threatened” episodes, the increasingly genius and lovingly rendered (often ‘80s-tastic) tributes, and the ensemble classics where the whole cast is just a well-oiled machine after years of riffing off one another. You can have whatever flavor you want. And don’t even get me started on toppings.
