Theater owners have been treated to their first glimpse of Amazon MGM Studios’ year-end holiday romp Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. While the studio didn’t give an official presentation at CinemaCon this week, it used the annual convention to show off 10 minutes of the comedy inside a spacious suite at Caesars Palace.
Those who saw the footage were asked to keep plot details under tight wraps, although its known that J.K. Simmons plays Santa and Bonnie Hunt plays Mrs. Claus.
Red One, from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions, is set to hit theaters worldwide Nov. 15, 2024, in order to take full advantage of the long year-end holiday corridor (several cinema operators told The Hollywood Reporter the footage looks promising). The holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed from a script by Chris Morgan.

Lionsgate has adjusted release dates for such high-profile titles as The Crow and Saw XI ahead of the company’s CinemaCon presentation.
The Crow is set for release on Aug. 23 after having previously been dated for June 7. Rupert Sanders’ feature reboot that stars Bill Skarsgard will now compete on that weekend with Amazon MGM Studios’ thriller Blink Twice and Sony Pictures’ faith-based The Forge.
Lionsgate has also moved Saw XI to Sept. 26, 2025, from its previously planned release on Sept. 27, 2024. The franchise is giving a bit of space to the new film after the success of its critically praised Saw X, which hit theaters in September and surpassed $110 million globally.
Never Let Go, Alexandre Aja’s psychological feature that stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs and Anthony B. Jenkins, is now set for release on Saw XI’s former date of Sept. 27, 2024. Previously undated, the movie focuses on a mother and her twin sons,...

In his short break from movies, The Rock has utilized the time with utmost productivity. Certainly, The Rock has a lot on his plate now as he took over the Board of Directors of WWE’s parent company, Tko Holdings. Beyond that, he also owns several businesses including his production company, Seven Bucks Productions; tequila brand, Teremana Tequila; energy drink company Zoa Energy; Project Rock apparel brand and newly launched, the United Football League.

Amid that, The Rock has been a full-time movie star and has a series of slates attached that are yet to move to production. So, being a part-time wrestler, he is most likely to disappear from the arena for a while, but before that, one female superstar complimented The Rock.

Dwayne Johnson’s career is no doubt one of the most successful ones in Hollywood, but over the recent years, fans saw a dip in his star power after a couple of his projects did not live up to expectations. Take Black Adam and Jungle Cruise, for example. Both huge franchises ended up bombing at the box office.
Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam
With all the wealth that The Rock has earned from his career as a professional wrestler and movie star, this profit loss may not be as damaging to the actor as his battle with mental health issues.
Dwayne Johnson On His Fight Against Depression
In a candid interview with Express, actor Dwayne Johnson opened up about his struggle with depression and his mother’s s**cide attempt.
“I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly.

Baldness is an inevitable aspect of aging for many men, or at least a result of their genetic makeup. However, going bald does not imply losing one’s attractive appearance. For example, Dwayne Johnson, 51, is a perfect example of how going ‘bald’ is just another style. Did we forget to mention his strong, muscle-bound physics, which is a sight to behold for anyone?
Well, his avid admirers are likely to picture him as the bald, ripped guy whom we all adore. But the Baywatch star did not always have such massive, superhuman-like muscles. Indeed, he was just one of us, regular folks, with no muscular pecs or curved arms, or, we can say, just “skinny” Rock.

A recently unearthed throwback picture of a young Johnson with a head full of hair caused everyone to do a double-take.

For 15 minutes or so, Bob Marley: One Love promises to be an antidote to the usual cookie-cutter music biopic, the kind skewered by the 2007 spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Riffing back then on 2005’s Walk the Line, which starred Joaquin Phoenix as troubled country star Johnny Cash, Jake Kasdan’s film took aim at the whole jukebox-movie industry, featuring a solemn lead character who “has to think about his entire life before he goes on stage.”
Spoiler alert: this kind of thing also happens in One Love. But Reinaldo Marcus Green’s film promises so much more, things like real-world politics, emotional complexity, and serious danger. In other words, an alternative to the usual narrative of the greenhorn who dreams big, lives that dream, and then gets sucker-punched by The Man. Gradually, though, the realization dawns that we’re being sold a pup. As Led Zeppelin might say,...

Roll out the red carpet because Ethan Coen’s upcoming feature, Honey Don’t, is ready to add some of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters to the cast. Coen will reteam with Margaret Qualley for the new project, with Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Evans leading the cast. Details about the plot remain a mystery, but whispers around the watercooler suggest it’s a comedy in the vein of Focus Features‘ Drive-Away Dolls.
Coen teased his follow-up to Drive-Away Dolls in July of last year. Coen directs Honey Don’t! from a script he wrote with his wife, Tricia Cooke. The duo paired off for Drive-Away Dolls, starring Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan. The duo’s Drive-Away Dolls revolves around Jamie, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian, who desperately needs to loosen up. A video for film pre-production tech appears to show an early glimpse of Sony’s upcoming Gravity Rush movie. Patapon also makes a surprise appearance.
One name among an entire roster of PlayStation game adaptations announced in 2022 was Gravity Rush – a movie based on Japan Studio’s 2012 action adventure. Other Sony game-to-movie projects listed at the time included God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone.
Director Anna Mastro – a maker of music videos and the 2020 action-fantasy Secret Society Of Second Born Royals – was listed as the filmmaker charged with bringing Gravity Rush to the screen, though announcements went rather quiet after that.
Gravity Rush has made a surprise reappearance, though, in a presentation video recently put online by Sony. Released to coincide with CES 2024, the glitzy tech conference currently underway in Las Vegas, the video is about Torchlight, a new suite of virtual production tools designed to help...

“American Born Chinese” has been canceled after one season at Disney+, Variety has learned.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decision, Disney was high on the creative of the series, but its viewership did not justify greenlighting a second season. The producers plan to shop the series to other outlets.
“American Born Chinese” debuted on Disney+ on May. The Disney Branded Television series was based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang. The official logline states that the show “chronicles the trials and tribulations of a regular American teenager whose life is forever changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god.”
The cast of the series included Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jimmy Liu, Ke Huy Quan, Sydney Taylor, and Daniel Wu. The show received positive reviews from critics, with the first season holding a 94% approval rating based on 51 reviews.

Disney+ is not proceeding with a second season of Disney Branded Television/20th Television’s action fantasy series American Born Chinese, which stars Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh.
The decision comes more than seven months after the eight-episode first season was released May 24. It also comes after the options on the cast expired yesterday, I hear. 20th Television still plans to shop the series elsewhere.
Created by Kelvin Yu based on Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel, American Born Chinese had an impeccable timing, launching on the heels of the 2023 awards season that saw Yeoh and Quan win trophy after trophy for their movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, culminating with both of them landing Oscars in March.

Social media users recently marveled that last month marked 20 years since three modern Christmas favorites — New Line’s Elf, Universal’s Love Actually and Miramax’s Bad Santa — all hit theaters within weeks of each other. Two decades later, you don’t need to feel like a cotton-headed ninny-muggins if you’re among those wondering why studios don’t release holiday theatrical offerings in the way they once did.
Although most Christmas films don’t tend to follow the path of, say, 1990’s Home Alone, which topped the domestic box office for a whopping 12 straight weeks, they had typically been a staple of the release calendar, with a handful of titles hitting theaters annually, as recently as the late 2010s. That list includes such 2016 theatrical offerings as Almost Christmas, Bad Santa 2, Office Christmas Party and Why Him?, followed by 2017’s Daddy’s Home 2, A Bad Moms Christmas and animated...

Red One: Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson’s holiday action comedy to bring cheer to theaters next year
Next year’s holiday season is already looking merry and bright at the box office as Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ holiday action comedy, Red One, plans on riding a sleigh into cinemas. The Amazon MGM and Seven Bucks Christmas film is still spreading holiday cheer on Prime Video, but the project’s global theatrical debut happens on November 15, 2024.
Red One’s move to theaters is a strategy to take advantage of the holiday box office rush. Families love to bundle up the family for a trip to cinemas, and that Thanksgiving window is almost as tasty as a lovingly cooked butterball turkey. Other films will premiere in theaters around the holidays, but so far, Robert De Niro’s mobster film Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever occupy the holiday stretch.

Red One, the mystery Christmas movie from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions and screenwriter Chris Morgan, is set to hit theaters worldwide on Nov. 15, 2024.
The Amazon MGM Studios’ epic holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed the movie from a script by Morgan.
Fast and Furious scribe Morgan worked with Johnson on four Fast movies as well as the Johnson-led 2019 spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw. The ensemble cast alongside Johnson includes J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Wesley Kimmel.
Amazon has already signaled its push into theatrical movies and the dating of Red One underlines how it has its sights on the holiday corridor starting just before Thanksgiving next year. Seven Bucks also set up Red One at Amazon to take advantage of branding and...

Exclusive, Updated: The latter half of the 2024 theatrical release schedule just got a shot of testosterone as Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks’ epic Christmas action comedy Red One just set an exclusive global theatrical release for Nov. 15, 2024.
Similar to other committed Amazon MGM theatrical titles of late, i.e. Air and Saltburn, Red One will have a theatrical window before streaming on its ultimate home, which is Prime Video.
By releasing Red One theatrically on November 15, Amazon MGM Studios is looking to take advantage of the traditionally lucrative holiday corridor before Thanksgiving. Rival wide releases on Nov. 15 include Warner Bros. Robert De Niro mobster movie, Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I hear that the movie has tested twice and scores were through the roof. This was in the last week, we understand. The original testing of the movie over the summer...

Do you smell what Benny Safdie is cooking? It’s a collaboration with Dwayne Johnson for the A24 film The Smashing Machine. Johnson will play legendary Mma fighter Mark Kerr from the no-holds-barred era of UFC in the new project. A24 is thrilled to reteam with Safdie after the filmmaker’s 2019 cinematic stress test Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler as a crooked New York City jeweler in over his head.
In addition to his directorial duties, Safdie is co-writing the script, which focuses on Kerr’s struggle with addiction, victory, love, and friendship in the year 2000. Likely to veer into more severe territory, The Smashing Machine gives Johnson a rare opportunity to flex his drama muscles for cameras. While some could be confused about what that looks like, Safdie is known for bringing the best out of his film stars.
Kerr is an American former wrestler and mixed martial artist.

Oscar-nominated actor Ryan O’Neal, who came to prominence on TV’s “Peyton Place” and became a top star of the 1970s in films including “Love Story,” “What’s Up, Doc?,” “Paper Moon” and “Barry Lyndon,” died Friday, his son Patrick said on Instagram. He was 82.
O’Neal was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in 2001 and with prostate cancer in 2012.
“Ryan was a very generous man who has always been there to help his loved ones for decade upon decade,” his son wrote. “My dad was 82, and lived a kick ass life. When it was released in 2007, the music biopic parody Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story was tragically overlooked, bombing at the box office. But, in the 16 years since then, the film — written by Judd Apatow and director Jake Kasdan — has evolved into a cult classic. John C. Reilly starred as the title character, a rock star who becomes a stylistic chameleon over the course of his 50-year career. All of those changes resulted in Reilly singing a wide variety of songs for the film and its soundtrack. Was it difficult for Reilly to adapt to all of those types of songs? When the film was released, Reilly told us it was what he was born to do. (Click on the media bar below to hear John C. Five months on from the Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. Season 2 finale, we have an answer about the show's fate.
Unfortunately, it's not good news.
TV Line reports that the medical drama reboot has been canceled and won't return for a third season.
It's unclear at this stage whether the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes governed the decision to end the show, and we'll probably never get an answer.
The series was a coming-of-age dramedy inspired by the hit medical series Doogie Howser, M.D. It follows Lahela "Doogie" Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager.
With the support of her caring and comical 'ohana (family) and friends, Lahela is determined to make the most of her teenage years and forge her own path.

When Is Jumanji 4 Coming? Well, the iconic Robin Williams first brought us into the enchanting world of Jumanji through the 1995 film, where a magical board game sets forth a thrilling adventure accompanied by chaotic twists.
Over the years, the franchise continued to captivate audiences with its successful sequels, starting with “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” in 2017 and “Jumanji: The Next Level” in 2019.
These episodes broadened the imaginative universe, presenting fresh yet recognizable characters brought to life by Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. The overwhelming box office success of these movies left no doubt that a fourth Jumanji film was inevitable.
Hiram Garcia, the president of Seven Bucks Productions, the studio behind the recent installments, confirmed that the fourth movie was a definite reality, and discussions about it were already underway.

Pilots for “The Hurt Unit,” “Public Defenders,” “Judgement” and “Keeping It Together” (which was formerly titled “Drop-Off”) are no longer moving forward at ABC.
The news comes amid the ongoing writers strike taking hold of Hollywood. The Writers Guild of America decided to strike on May 2 after failing to reach an agreement on issues like wages and protections against AI.
The medical procedural drama was ordered in December and starred Ben McKenzie. Per the official logline, the show is “a cutting-edge medical drama about a highly skilled team of trauma surgeons and nurses who race into the field to treat the patients who won’t make it to the hospital in time. When the sick and the injured can’t get to the ER, the Hurt Unit (Hospital Urgent Response Team) brings the ER to them.”
Matt Lopez and John Glenn co-wrote the pilot for “The Hurt Unit,” with both serving as executive producers.

ABC is passing on its pilots.
The network has passed on Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature is, however, planning to shop The Hurt Unit to other networks and platforms, while 20th Television will be shopping Public Defenders and Judgement.
The move comes as it still has decisions to make on series Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds as well as The Good Lawyer, which was a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Last month, ABC handed a series order to Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson. The project, which is based on the popular French detective series Hip, was the clear front-runner all development season.

Amazon Studios is heading to the supermarket.
The company has acquired Jennifer Harrington’s feature script titled Hell’s Belles. The comedy will follow three female grocery store employees who have always wanted to stand up to their repellent boss, Ron, but have never found the fortitude. They must somehow find that resolve after discovering Ron is actually Satan and on the verge of taking over the universe.
The project is in development at Amazon with longtime producing partners Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar on board to produce. Hell’s Belles marks a reteaming of sorts, at least on the development front, for Harrington and the pair. Is Steve Rogers officially dead? Is he doing stuff on the moon? As it stands in the MCU, it’s not totally clear, so it’s hard to know if we’ll ever see Chris Evans in the role again. But for what it’s worth, Evans himself says there’s probably more stories to tell with Steve — just not right now.
As fans will recall, when last we saw Captain America, he had gone back in time to return the Infinity Stones, and then opted to stay behind and live a full life with his love, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). In the final minutes of “Avengers: Endgame,” a much, much older Steve hands off the shield to his buddy Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and by the end of “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+, Sam is finally ready to take up the Captain America mantle himself.

New Girl is getting a new streaming home. The comedy series will be leaving Netflix and moving to Hulu and Peacock next month as part of a shared agreement between the two streamers.
All 146 episodes will be available on Hulu and Peacock beginning April 17.
New Girl was produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Television. The series is distributed by Disney Entertainment.
Netflix snagged the streaming rights to New Girl in 2013, when studios were happy to get a rich Netflix deal for their broadcast and cable shows. It is the latest Disney-produced series to be diverted to Hulu after its licensing deal with Netflix expired, joining other 20th Television shows like American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Pose, and Arrested Development.
New Girl, which originally aired on Fox for seven seasons, followed Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day, a 30-something woman who moves into a loft with three single men following a bad breakup.

But, over the years, Walk Hard has become a cult classic.
