Singers Dev Negi and Priya Saraniya have released their own rendition of the classic ‘90s track ‘Jo Haal Dil Ka’ from the film ‘Sarfarosh’, remaking the track with a modern touch while retaining the musicality of the original.
A beautiful and heartfelt track, ‘Jo Haal Dil Ka’ has an iconic melody which gets reinvigorated with a new contemporary twist while still keeping things familiar, mixing in a passionate romance with its ups and downs that can’t be broken.
This is done extremely well as the acoustic instrumentation compliments the voices of Dev and Priya who seamlessly blend their voices with one another, creating a vocal contrast which only accentuates the overall romantic mood.
A powerful and booming production, the song is done in a typical pop sensibility with a loud booming bass, an acoustic guitar with simple melodies, and some elements of Bollywood pop, American pop merged with an electronic side.

After Dilip Kumar agreed to Mumtaz (Askari) as one of the romantic partners for one of the twins in “Ram Aur Shyam” (1967), there was no looking back for her. Male actors, who had once spurned her as a ‘B-grade’ actress were now more than ready to accept her. She was so much sought after that a superstar of the time, with whom she had a string of successes, reportedly went into a sulk if she acted with other heroes.

This character has given rise to countless memes of social media and WhatsApp stickers. Some people have even gone to the length of merchandising Maju bhai’s famous donkey on a horse painting by patching them onto t-shirts.

The concept of the body double is quite spread throughout the movie industry, with people looking like the stars doubling them in stunts or in erotic scenes. In India and Bollywood, though, where a number of stars are bigger than life, it has risen to a whole other level, with film star lookalikes being as much part of Indian popular culture as the revered actors who front the movie industry, even starring as so-called “duplicates” in broadly comedic versions of original films by the megastars they resemble. Documentary director and producer Geetika Narang Abbasi profiles three career duplicates – Kishore Bhanushali, who doubles as Dev Anand; Firoz Khan the Amitabh Bachchan lookalike and Prashant Walde, who makes a living mimicking Shah Rukh Khan.

By numbers, her work in the Hindi film industry seems quite scanty — at 33 films in around a decade and a half. But the statistics fail to reveal that, save around five, all were box-office hits, and some of them broke new ground, making her one of the most popular and successful actresses of all times — and a fashion icon too.
Though she struck gold right from her debut as female lead, and went on to become an “in demand” actress for everything, from frothy romances to tear-jerkers, Sadhana is most remembered for her trademark hairstyle — the famous “Sadhana cut” of fringes or short bangs (itself inspired by the elfin and charming Audrey Hepburn) — and pioneering form-fitting kurtas and churidar pyjamas.
But in her comparatively limited outings, Sadhana, who was born on this day in 1941, showcased her acting prowess. She could essay roles of a rich heiress to a village belle...

I spent a number of years living in France, and one of the most interesting words I learned was “sosie” – someone who perfectly resembles someone else, to the point that people could confuse them. I was familiar with impersonators, mostly comedians who did voice imitations of famous people, whether actors or singers. I knew about Elvis impersonators, people who would perform dressed as Elvis. But that’s as far as it went, until I discovered the world of “sosies” in France. Where impersonators or doubles were fairly marginalized here at home, in France I discovered a whole side business of people who resembled famous performers – usually singers – and would hire themselves out to perform at local events. Writer Yann Moix published a book called “Podium” about a bank employee who must choose between his family and the career he longs for: to be a “sosie” of the late,...

Core business is a phrase that got familiar with the arrival of corporate houses in the film business. Which is to say, they would stick to the business they came to do and know it better, rather than branch out into other businesses that may look lucrative but you knew little about.
In the film industry, too, the jobs were marked out for people who specialised in or were trained for the task.

Jane Goodall fell for Tarzan at an early age – ‘he married the wrong Jane’ she said, half joking. A confirmed tree-hugger, the King of the Apes would seem to be a perfect match for the nature loving primatologist – even though the greater part of Tarzan’s big screen career played out in backlot jungles rather than the real thing.
Producer Sy Weintraub rectified that situation with Tarzan Goes to India and Tarzan’s Three Challenges – both sleekly made widescreen entertainments that put the jungle lord in his proper element. The shooting started on Saturday and will end on Monday. The new version of the song being filmed on Shah Rukh and Sunny has been re-mixed by Ram Sampath. The voices are yet to be decided. It was way back in 1994 when Naseeruddin Shah had taken Akshay Kumar as well as Suniel Shetty for a ride with his blind man act in Mohra. It had turned out to be a huge twist in the tale when as a businessman Jindal, Naseeruddin Shah had turned out to be a villain of the piece, instead of being a savor that he projected himself to be. Now 21 years later, it is John Abraham's turn to face the music, as he comes face to face with Naseeruddin Shah in a blind avtar again. The film is Welcome Back and this time around there is no pretense being put as the veteran actor is playing a comical don named Wanted Bhai in the Anees Bazmee directed action comedy. In the first of the series, it was Firoz Khan who came in the lives of Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar...

The 'bhai's are back, and they seem classy! On the other hand, the babes are too hot to handle!
Well, while we have seen Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor having full-on masti in Welcome, this time there is a new and hotter addition in Welcome Back. Yes, we are talking about John Abraham (who seems to have replaced the sweet and innocent Akshay Kumar from Welcome). This time (from the posters), it seems like Nana Patekar has turned out to be a good man, while John, on the other seems to be the bad lad!
We say so because Nana, who played a don in Welcome, is now seen holding a flower in his hand (unlike in the first part), while John is blazing hot with a gun pointed over his head!

Indian cinema superstar Akshay Kumar is a happy man these days. Riding high on the box-office success of his recent blockbuster film Gabbar is Back, the enigmatic Akshay recently shared an amazing piece of trivia about his illustrious film career.
The megastar recalled having worked in a high percentage of films in which he shared screen-space with a number of Bollywood legends. Oddly enough, the only exception to the rule was his father-in-law and yesteryear superstar, Rajesh Khanna.
Over the years, Akshay has worked with Bollywood legends like Manoj Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee and Tanuja. While the actor co-starred with Manoj Kumar in the 1995 thriller Maidan-e-Jung, which also featured Dharmendra, he has also worked with Shatrughan Sinha in the classic Aan-Men at Work, Feroz Khan in Welcome and Rishi Kapoor in Namastey London and Housefull 2. Picture this. An elite team who target, intercept then either eliminate or bring to justice terrorists and criminals. Whilst on an operation to save one of their own, information is obtained (read smacked black and blue out of) from a criminal of a major attack. Travelling from country to country, now begins the chase to take out the masterminds behind it. Sound familiar. Well it should. You’ve seen it more than a million times, with one of the latest being Akshay Kumar’s Holiday. However, coming from the National Award winning Neeraj Pandey, you would think Baby would blow your mind. Yet the mind is not blown enough.
Right from the actors to the action, Baby was never meant to have the usual tone for a CIA-in-combat-fighting-against-terrorism storyline. It was more gritty, more swift, more dark. This isn’t about the patriot that screams his passion filled anthem at the top of his lungs.

The struggle to complete Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back in time for a Christmas release has ended. According to very reliable sources Anil Kapoor's dates played the villain of the piece, throwing Welcome Back's final two schedules into a chaos. The film is now being readied for a January 23 release, alongside two heavyweight Akshay Kumar starrers Neeraj Pandey's Baby and Krish's Gabbar, thereby reducing the Republic Day weekend to a show of strength. It goes unsaid of course that one of Akshay Kumar's two films will move to a later date. Revealing all the inside details a source says, "Producer Feroze Nadiadwala was keen on releasing Welcome Back on December 19 alongside Raj Kumar Hirani's Pk. But because of Anil Kapoor's date issues, there are two remaining schedules in Dubai and Mumbai. So Feroz has agreed to shift Welcome Back to January 23." There is a...

There is good and bad news about the long-due sequel to Vipul Shah's 2002 thriller Aankhen. While we know that that producer Gaurang Doshi has signed Anees Bazmee to take over the directorial duties in the sequel, what we don't know as yet is that the original cast is being replaced except for Big B whom both Gaurang and Anees are keen to cast as the original character. The rest of the cast is being changed completely. Admits Anees, "Yes, both Gaurang and I are very keen to have Bachchan Saab on board. He is the central point of interest in Aankhen. I'm keen to work with him. We are working on getting him to agree. The rest of the cast would be completely different from the original film. Routinely, we love to sweep the truth about Hindu-Muslim relations under the carpet. Or simply sugar-coat it to make the actual volume of mutual distrust and animosity palatable to a nation steeped in escapism and self-delusion.
Dekh Tamasha Dekh(Dtd) directed by theatre legend Feroz Abbas Khan (of Tumhari Amrita fame) is a jolting wake-up call for a nation swept into a slumberous silence by the status quo. Put simply, we don’t want to face the reality about the friction that simmers just under the surface among the two communities. Dtd is perhaps the first Hindi film which ventures into the vista of vitriolic without the fear of offending the more refined sections of the audience who may not be comfortable watching the vanguards and trouble-makers of the two communities addressing each other with the harshest of epithets.

Amajor group song-and-dance sequence for Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back, scheduled to be shot this week, featuring Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia had to be scrapped at the last minute, apparently because the track composed for the shooting was not ready.

In Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back, Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia would be seen reprising their famous 'Tera Saath Hai Kitna Pyara' tumble-in-the-hay song from Feroz Khan's Jaanbaaz. Both Anees and his producer Firoz Nadiadwala are huge Fk fans. In fact, Welcome even starred Feroz Khan. While the sequel now will have Naseeruddin Shah taking over the role. They were the quintessential screen scorchers of the 1970s and 80s. Dimple Kapadia's love-making sequence with a bare-chested Anil Kapoor in Feroz Khan's Jaanbaaz had set the screen on fire. It had also famously prompted Dimple to call Anil "a barber's nightmare." Remind him of this, and Anil, who is now shooting with Dimple again says, "Oh God! That was like ages ago. Dimple and I last worked together in Ram Lakhan, though in that film she was opposite Jackie Shroff. She is a fantastic person and such a good actress.
