It’s Sunday afternoon, and the sun is slowly coming out on New York City’s Orchard Street. Patches of the street are covered in soapy water and last night’s party detritus — cups, cigarettes, and ripped wristbands dot the sidewalks. Dogs pull their owners down the street, last night’s revelers clutch coffees and sandwiches like lifelines, and a few marathoners head home, wrapped in foil blankets. In fact, there are people everywhere — everywhere except 7th Street Burger, that is, where inside, Billy McFarland is sweating behind a grill,...

Syd Barrett, who walked Pink Floyd through the gates of dawn before mental illness forced his departure from the then-rising group, will be the focus of an upcoming documentary featuring new interviews with his former bandmates.

Exclusive: Mercury Studios has completed work on a documentary about the co-founder of one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands of all time.
Have You Got It Yet? The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd explores the enigmatic Barrett, who wrote Pink Floyd’s first two hits and even came up with the band’s name (a mashup of obscure blues players Pink Anderson and Floyd Council). In 1968, only a few years after the group’s founding, Barrett was forced out of Pink Floyd when his bandmates became alarmed about his mental stability and use of psychedelic drugs.
Barrett recorded a couple of solo albums before exiting the business.
Musician-artist Syd Barrett, co-founder of Pink Floyd
“Barrett dropped out of music, returning home to Cambridge for the last 30 years of his life and his first love of painting,” according to a release about the documentary. “Poignantly, some of...

Before listening to this week’s discussion on Immortality, please check out last week’s conversation on Scanner Sombre, Lidar.Exe, and Gamescom 2022!
At 30, I tend to think I have experienced a great deal of what games have to offer. Not to place a cap on the medium’s potential or to say there’s a drought of quality titles, yet I often find I more or less know what I’m getting myself into before sitting down to play a new title.
And that’s fine. I still enjoy all manner of games across all genres, but a game these days rarely makes me reexamine the potential of storytelling in games.
[Immortality Enters From Stage Left]
Then there’s Immortality, which challenged my perception of the possibilities of storytelling in games, doing so in the most precise and intriguing ways. Half Mermaid and creative director and writer Sam Barlow build upon the Fmv frameworks...

The 2017 NFL draft is about to kick off and dozens of hopefuls are vying for a spot on one of the league’s 32 teams. Among the most recognizable prospects are potential No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett, known for his affinity for poetry and dinosaurs, and Beyoncé-obsessed Solomon Thomas.
It’s an impressive class, with Bleacher Report calling the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine “the most compelling combine in years.” But for many of these driven young players, the road to turn pro hasn’t been easy.

The internet was understandably awash with excitement yesterday (April 29) when the main cast of Star Wars Episode VII was finally announced.
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are confirmed to be returning to the sci-fi franchise, along with several newcomers including Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Andy Serkis.

A round-up of social media reaction to the news is presented below:

"I think what people are forgetting is Harrison Ford is returning and will most likely be the lead with a big role in the film. That being said I would love to have seen the rumoured Gary Oldman cast in the film. He had great chemistry opposite Harrison Ford in Air Force One and is a very underrated actor - who most likely would not have taken too much spotlight from new cast members.

Home Nations rivals Scotland and Wales will face-off tomorrow at Hampden Park, with both sides needing a win to keep any hope alive of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The two bottom sides in Group A met last October at the Millenium Stadium with Wales emerging victorious thanks to a Gareth Bale double. James Morrison had earlier scored for the Scots and Steven Fletcher had a goal disallowed but like much of Craig Levein’s tenure as Scotland manager luck was not on their side.
Chris Coleman also has not endured the best of times as a national team manager. However, he picked up his second win as Wales manager in February when Austria were beaten 2-1. A different kind of actor for a very different Spider-Man. I like it!
I have to admit, I had the same the reaction as many of you when I learned that Andrew Garfield had been chosen to play Spider-Man in the upcoming reboot: “Who?” But after much thought, I’m thrilled with the idea.
In the same way Batman Begins was a darker, more serious reboot for the Batman franchise, this new Spider-Man franchise is aiming to change the way we look at the webbed wonder. Had they chosen someone like Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman, who was once being considered for the role, it would have felt like the same old action franchise all over again.
Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-Man, and Sam Raimi, who directed all three Spider-Man movies, both spoke with HollywoodLife.com recently, and they both said they couldn’t imagine anyone but Tobey Maguire playing Spidey.

No Gay. Lesbian Joke. No Gay. Gay Joke. No Gay. Ooh, Look An Actual Gay!
This week the major networks announced their fall line-ups and mid-season replacements, and overall the news wasn't great for gay characters. Ugly Betty had already been deep-sixed on ABC, and as expected, NBC axed Trauma with gay paramedic Tyler and Mercy with gay nurse Angel, while the CW dropped Melrose Place, not that what's his face got much screentime anyway. Also not unexpectedly, ABC isn't bringing back the hilarious Better Off Ted which had two out actors Jonathan Slavin and Portia de Rossi, and which was usually gay-friendly.
Of the pilots that weren't picked up, the two biggest disappointments were ABC passing on the Cheyenne Jackson/Christopher Sieber sitcom It Takes a Village and CBS not going for the drama The Quinn-tuplets, both of which featured significant gay content.
So what did the networks go for of gay interest?...

The Logo Network is airing the greatest TV show ever, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And even better, they're asking folks to identify their favorite episodes via a neat drag and drop voting widget on the LogoTV website.
The thirty most popular selections will be aired in a special Buffy marathon on Logo June 11th-13th.

Attention, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans: I'm going to kick things off with a Spoiler Warning right at the start of this interview — because we're right in the thick of the Buffy-verse right now and things are about to get very intense.

Oh, and just in case you missed it the first time: Spoiler Alert!

"Dream Home": Beneath the soft, romantic title (1) lurks what might possibly be the craziest, bloodiest slasher film ever made in Hong Kong! Produced, directed and written by the rebellious and prolific Pang Ho-cheung ("You Shoot I Shoot", "Men Suddenly In Black"), who doesn't give a damn that its sexual and violent content guarantees it won't be shown in Mainland China, "Dream Home" had an unparalleled $4 million production budget (amazing, considering the current Hong Kong cinema crisis) and is also the first movie produced and financed by 852 Films, a company co-founded by "Dream Home" lead actress Josie Ho. While involved in her role as a young, hard working woman willing to do anything to have her own apartment, Josie Ho revealed to Action Queens some exclusive information and gruesome anecdotes about her work on the movie, both in front of and behind the camera. Actor Andrew Shue has wed U.S. TV reporter Amy Robach following their whirlwind romance last year in 2009. The former "Melrose Place" star separated from his wife Jennifer Hageney in 2008 after 14 years of marriage and began dating Robach, who divorced her husband the following year.
The pair became engaged in September 2009, and walked down the aisle together on Saturday, February 6 at New York's Chelsea Piers. Among guests who attended the ceremony were director Davis Guggenheim, Meredith Vieira and Kathie Lee Gifford.
"The wedding was absolutely beautiful. Amy and Andrew were beaming," a rep of "Today" show said as quoted by NYDaily News. The rep continued, "Instead of a gift, they asked guests to give them their two favorite songs - one dance, one love - and they were played throughout the night. And instead of wedding cake, they're having a birthday cake."

Tacoma - Who could imagine making a documentary about dolphins could lead to so much trouble. When director Louie Psihoyos exposed what the Japanese locals were doing to dolphins in Taiji, Japan in The Cove, he found himself a wanted man. This sea-side community celebrates their relationship with the dolphin. But there’s a darkside when they herd dolphins into a cove, sell the prized ones to aquariums for $150,000 each. The remaining dolphins are slaughtered and given to school kids as whale meat. He found himself wanted by the Japanese law for various charges including videotaping undercover police officers.
Certain folks have defended this slaughter as cultural dining. How dare Americans protest what the Japanese eat. The falsely labeled dolphin meat has toxic levels of mercury. Remember that this is the same Japan that will shut off imports of American agriculture and livestock with the rumor of something being amiss.

Ellen Ripley (Alien/Aliens, 1979/86)
Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is just hanging out on the intergalactic transport ship Nostromo, leading the often-dull life of a Space Teamster, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, her idiot captain decides to land on the remote planet Lv-426 to investigate some stupid distress signal emanating from a crashed spaceship. Now, as we all know, responding to distress signals is one of the top five most insanely boneheaded tactical decisions any science-fiction/horror space traveler can possibly make, but this doesn’t stop Captain Numbnuts from ordering his crew to get their asses down there and dope out the spooky alien wreckage.
Of course, once they go down to investigate, some dumbass crewmember decides it would be totally hilarious to stick his face in one of the strange egglike things he finds in the smoldering wreckage of the derelict ship.

The upcoming film adaptation of the sci-fi western “Cowboys and Aliens” will be radically different from the original comic book, according to screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
“We went away from it,” Kurtzman told IGN during the 2009 Screenwriting Expo. “We took the elements we all loved about it and took our own story, which I can't tell you too much about."
The screenwriting duo behind “Fringe” and “Star Trek” also revealed that they have struggled to find the right tone for “Cowboys & Aliens.” (A problem that Jon Favreau addressed—and likened to several films—in an exclusive interview with MTV News.)
“How do you make it so it's not too funny?” Orci asked. “You hear the title ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ and think, what is it? Is it ‘Wild, Wild West’? The exact same structure and story can kill you if you have the wrong tone. That's the hard part."

Like an Applebee's dinner entree, The CW's Melrose Place reboot is dripping with cheese, not to mention guilt-inducingly addictive. And while I'd rank the show's breakout character, Katie Cassidy's Ella Simms, as prime-time's reigning head-bitch-in-heels -- last night's "Don't flatter yourself, David: I always have a good time" was a howl-and-repeat zinger -- I'm pretty stoked that Heather Locklear's Amanda Woodward will soon be in the mix to stir up trouble and (hopefully) boost ratings. After all, Ella-vs.Amanda > Ella-vs.Snoozy-Jane, no? To that end, Locklear was back on the set of Melrose -- and back in Amanda's...

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that the next direct-to-dvd DC Comics movie after the upcoming Superman/Batman: Public Enemies will be a new release titled Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, tentatively coming Spring 2010.
As you can glean from the title, it takes place on two different planet Earths: one protected by the Justice League, and one ruled over by the evil Crime Syndicate. When a heroic version of Lex Luthor steps over from that parallel Earth to ask the Justice League for help, a superhero fight breaks out. That last part is merely conjecture, but we'd put good money on it.
What we do know for sure is that Dwayne McDuffie, who masterminded the original Justice League cartoon and its Unlimited followup, will be writing the script, and that it'll feature an all-star voice cast, including Gina Torres (Firefly) as Wonder Woman's doppelganger Super Woman and James Woods (Ghosts of Mississippi,...

Tom Lenk, who starred as Andrew on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will make his Broadway debut as Franz in the Tony-nominated musical Rock of Ages on Sept. 14. Lenk originated the supporting role, the son of a German developer who wants to demolish the Sunset Strip (including La's favorite rock club), in Los Angeles and Las Vegas productions. He phoned EW to give us the scoop and the often hilarious backstory. • A UCLA theater grad with formal voice training, Lenk went to college with Rock of Ages' Tony-nominated director Kristin Hanggi. They've worked together before — on a production of Ann E. Wrecksick, an Annie spoof about bulimic orphans, in the basement of a Mexican restaurant in Silver Lake, Calif. the summer after his first season on Buffy. She knew he was also friends with Rock of Ages writer Chris D'Arienzo, and phoned Lenk to tell him that D'Arienzo had a role that might suit him.

We love actor Tom Lenk, and it's not just because he played Andrew, one of the Ten Best Gay and Bisexual Science Fiction Characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
We love that he came out last year, and our female readers obviously adore him, since he made an appearance on the Ladies' Choice Hot 50.
Today is Tom's thirty-third birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with a look back at Tom's ... many ... adorable hairstyles and looks through the years? Happy Birthday, Tom!

So in last Sunday’s much-discussed episode of Brothers & Sisters, Kevin and Scotty considered having a threeway with Kevin’s oh-so-forward ex, Chad.
I didn’t mind that Kevin and Scotty ultimately decided not to go through with it – that seems to fit their characters, after all.
But I was shocked that the writers managed to do a whole storyline about a gay couple considering whether or not to have a threeway … without ever saying a single interesting thing about a gay couple considering whether or not to have a threeway!
No matter. It’s still enough of an excuse to declare this the “Threeway Edition” of B.G.W.E!

Fans of the Buffyverse were saddened this week with the news that Angel star Andy Hallett died Sunday night from heart failure at the age of 33. Hallett played Lorne, the telepathic demon who ran a karaoke bar and sometimes helped Angel.
While Lorne's sexual orientation was never explicitly addressed, he certainly had his flamboyant qualities, frequently flirted with Angel and knew how to make use of a gay pop culture reference, inspiring fans to speculate about Lorne's sexuality. (He wasn't the only Buffyverse character to inspire such speculation, around the same time, Buffy viewers were wondering about Andrew.)
By the time Lorne became a part of the show, an overseas move (and, later, recaps from an ex-boyfriend who didn't know the difference between Glory and Darla) made trying to keep up with Angel a daunting task for me. Still, the fun Hallet brought to the show as Lorne made sifting through the confusion worthwhile.

Under the Hood: The Tears of the Comedian
With the long-awaited arrival of Watchmen, it’s a whole new ball game for both the super hero film genre, and for actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
By Terry Keefe
(Note: This article is appearing in this month's Venice Magazine.)
Watchmen was the first comic to make me a little bit scared of super heroes. It also abruptly killed any lingering childhood fantasies of ever wanting to be one. Having read super hero comics since literally the day I could put the words in the thought balloons together, Watchmen arrived as a comics fan’s equivalent of a neutron bomb, not to mention a major reality check, during my mid-teens, in 1986. (And yes, they were still called comic books then, as the term “graphic novel” took many years to catch on, even though Watchmen was to eventually become the most revered graphic novel of all time.

Those of you who are sick to death of costume dramas may have your prayers answered soon enough when a new film based on the Jane Austen classic ‘Pride and Prejudice’ but with the added twist of a murderous space monster goes into production later this year.
MTV has the story -
According to Variety, Elton John’s Rocket Pictures is bringing the project to the big screen, directed by Will Clark, who cowrote the script with Andrew Kemble and John Pape. The story will apparently follow the original novel — until an alien crash lands in the village of Meryton and begins to murder the inhabitants.
