- Spanish actor. Born in Pamplona and son of a Civil Guard, he moved to San Sebastián when he was 12 years old, and some years later started studying Law. While studying his legal career, he participated in the Teatro Español Universitario and so he discovered his real vocation. His first contact with cinema was as a dubbing actor, and later, he became an actor, being his first film El puente de la paz (1958). He's one of the most prolific Spanish actors, with more than 100 films, of which the great majority are erotic comedies featuring lots of nude girls. Most of these films were made in the 70s and directed by Mariano Ozores and Pedro Lazaga, and they are the consequence of the relaxation of sexual censorship after Franco's death.
In the 80s he started to be given dramatic roles with which he managed to abandone the typecast status of low-quality comedy actor he had so far. He won the Best Actor Award together with Francisco Rabal in the Cannes Festival with The Holy Innocents (1984), and also won two Goya Awards with the films The Enchanted Forest (1987) and La marrana (1992).
He also worked on several TV series (Don Quijote de la Mancha (1991) together with Fernando Rey, Lleno, por favor (1993) (for Antena 3 Televisión), and "Al fin solos" (1994) (also for Antena 3 Televisión). Among the films in which he participated stand out, among others, Robbery at 3 O'clock (1962), The Executioner (1963), Historias de la televisión (1965), Novios 68 (1967), Soltera y madre en la vida (1969), Cateto a babor (1970), Vente a Alemania, Pepe (1971), Dormir y ligar: todo es empezar (1974), El crack (1981), La vaquilla (1985), _Bandera negra (1986)_ and El río que nos lleva (1989).- IMDb Mini Biography By: Miguel Ángel Díaz González
