“I come as one, I stand as 10,000,” Diarra Kilpatrick said through tears at the premiere of Diarra From Detroit in Los Angeles on Wednesday night as she thanked the cast, crew and executives at BET for their work in bringing her new series to life.
Premiering on BET+ on Thursday, the mystery comedy-drama created and executive produced by Kilpatrick is an emotional milestone for the writer and actress who grew up performing in theater in Detroit before moving to Los Angeles to further pursue her passion. “I think about the fact that in 2012 I used my tax return to make a web series,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s been a long journey, and I’m really grateful to all the people who have become a part of it, and I’m grateful to myself for being able to get to my dream.”

The DC Universe's varied Superman depictions include iconic Fortress of Solitude appearances with differing success levels. Superman's crystal fortress, a tribute to his alien background, serves as a retreat for contemplation, training, and solitude. Modern adaptations like "Man of Steel" miss the mark by utilizing a spaceship rather than the traditional crystalline structure.
Superman's famed Fortress of Solitude has appeared in numerous live-action adaptations across both movies and television, often with varying degrees of success. The DC Universe has featured a litany of Superman depictions, many of which include his icy retreat. The location has even been teased in the Dcu's future, potentially appearing in the 2025 Superman movie.

Superman's killing of General Zod in "Man of Steel" divided viewers, and the same is true for DC comic book writers. Some supporters of the movie cite how Superman has killed before in other media or how Zod's death raised the emotional stakes for Superman. Those who disagree think Man of Steel didn't make the situation feel un-winnable enough without killing or simply don't like the idea of Superman taking a life so early in the Dceu (or at all).
Superman’s controversial killing of General Zod at the end of Man of Steel divided not only Dceu viewers and longtime readers of Superman comics, but also comic creators themselves. The recently-concluded DC Extended Universe began on a divisive note with 2013’s Man of Steel. Starring Henry Cavill as Superman and directed by Zack Snyder, Man of Steel was an emotional retelling of Superman’s iconic origin story, placing...

Man of Steel inadvertently set up the introduction of Martian Manhunter in the Dceu, as an improvisational choice by Harry Lennix hinted at his character's true identity. The theory that General Swanwick was Martian Manhunter gained popularity among fans, prompting Zack Snyder to implement the character's reveal in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Discussions about incorporating Martian Manhunter into the Dceu began during post-production of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
One improvisational choice in 2013's Man of Steel led to the eventual introduction of DC Comics' Martian Manhunter into the Dceu. While David Corenswet will assume the role of Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, in 2025's Superman: Legacy as part of the rebooted DC Universe, Henry Cavill debuted as the legendary superhero in Man of Steel, the Dceu's first project. Mario Van Peebles has set his latest film “The Price for Freedom,” which tells the story of civil rights pioneers and NAACP organizers Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore, who were instrumental in advancing the cause for Black voters in Florida.
The Moores’ story is described as “equal parts civil rights history and a personal tale of love, commitment and family,” as it chronicles the activists’ fight for voting rights and the equalization of pay for Black teachers in Florida, as well as their battle against racial violence and lynching.
After opening 64 chapters of the NAACP in the state and registering hundreds of thousands of Black voters, the Moores were murdered on Dec. 25, 1951, when a bomb exploded directly under their bedroom at their home on the outskirts of Mims, Fla.

Since James Gunn announced his plans for the Dcu in January, the DC fandom is ecstatic. However, not everything is perfect. While celebrating the new casts and projects coming their way, the fandom has also learned that most of the previous projects from the Dceu won't get a follow-up. Fans have had to say goodbye to many good things from the Dceu, which will be completely rebooted.
All the Dceu set-ups from the last decade won't amount to anything once the reboot takes place. Characters like Robin, Ted Kord, or even Darkseid may get a new chance in the Dcu, but it's too soon to know yet. These characters, as well as possible storylines like Knightmare and the Legion of Doom vs. the Justice League, will have to wait until the Dcu settles properly.

For a while, Zack Snyder was building a cinematic universe for the Netflix streaming service that centered on his zombie movie Army of the Dead. The film was quickly followed by a prequel called Army of Thieves, a sequel was being written, and an anime series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was in the works. But Snyder has since shifted his focus over to building a multi-media universe around his upcoming Netflix sci-fi film Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (and its follow-up Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver). So Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas sits unfinished… and during an interview with Total Film magazine, Snyder revealed that Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon aren’t entirely separate. In fact, if Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas ever gets completed, we’ll be seeing a Rebel Moon crossover on the show!

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is not a spinoff of Yellowstone and is not part of the Yellowstone universe. The show, debuting on November 5 on Paramount+, follows the life of Bass Reeves, the first Black U.S. Marshal in the American West. The events of Bass Reeves take place before 1883, clarifying its timeline and setting it apart from the Yellowstone prequel series 1883.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves creator and showrunner Chad Feehan explains why the upcoming series is not a Yellowstone spinoff despite previous suggestions that it was. Executive produced by Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame and lead star David Oyelowo, the two-time Emmy nominee plays the titular character Bass Reeves, who became the first Black U.S. Marshal in the American West. Although the show was initially announced as a prequel to 1883, it has since been clarified that Lawmen is not part of the Yellowstone universe.

James Gunn's Dcu has an opportunity to do right by a Justice League hero that appeared in Zack Snyder's Dceu. The cosmic nature of James Gunn's Dcu creates an excellent premise for introducing DC's alien characters other than Kryptonians. A combination of a cosmic Dcu and James Gunn's storytelling sensibilities can help this Justice League hero become a key player in the new universe.
Despite some of the positives of the Dceu, they're unfortunately overshadowed by the negatives. It makes sense given how many issues there were to the point Warner Bros. Discovery decided to pull the plug on the vision Zack Snyder started. With a Justice League recasting occurring, it's quite apparent James Gunn is ready to march on with the Dcu reboot.
While some characters like Blue Beetle, Peacemaker and Amanda Waller will be kept from the previous universe, Gunn is introducing his changes with Superman: Legacy.

The upcoming DC Universe has the opportunity to explore Green Lantern, a major Justice League hero missing from both Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Green Lantern was the only major Justice League member missing from the Dceu (outside of a very brief flashback appearance by a non-human Lantern). The absence of Green Lantern from the big screen since 2011 makes his reboot in the Dcu easier, as the character won't face the same recasting issues that other DC characters have encountered. The Dcu will fully integrate the Green Lantern mythos, with Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, and John Stewart having prominent roles in upcoming projects.
Both Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League — the director's version of the movie released on Max — have one glaring omission, and the new DC Universe can explore that to its advantage. The Dceu is soon making way for the upcoming DC Universe, with...

With Young Love, the TV spin-off of the Oscar-winning short and beloved book, Max enters a new area of the animated family sitcom.
The concept for the show is something creator Matthew A. Cherry tells The Hollywood Reporter was knocking around as a possibility all the way back to the book’s Kickstarter days.
“When we first saw Vashti Harrison’s amazing artwork, we had always thought, ‘What could this be?’” Cherry explains. “A feature idea just felt not big enough, but what always felt like it could make a ton of sense was a series.”
Despite having a young child at the center of its narrative, the streaming show’s 12-episode first season is not for kids. Yet, it’s not quite adult animation, either. Young Love exists in a middling place rarely called upon in animation, and is one of the clearest examples of Warner Bros. Discovery and...

Director Ángel Manuel Soto pays homage to the source material in Blue Beetle through various Easter Eggs, including a Green Lantern nod and a reference to the Martian Manhunter. The film includes a playful reference to Bruce Wayne and Elon Musk, highlighting the larger DC Universe and injecting humor into the storyline. Despite some Easter Eggs being left out of the final cut, Blue Beetle successfully establishes its own unique story within the DC Cinematic Universe, with nods to other DC mega-corporations and superheroes.
Warning! The following contains minor Spoilers for Blue Beetle.
Ángel Manuel Soto isn't scrambling any Easter Eggs. No, the director of the new DC superhero adventure Blue Beetle is serving up a healthy dose of nostalgia when it comes to honoring the universe's source material in the comic books. The Dceu failed to properly develop and showcase iconic characters like Jimmy Olsen, Martian Manhunter, and Deadshot, resulting in missed opportunities for these fan-favorite heroes and villains. The portrayal of characters such as Jonathan Kent, Cyborg, and Lois Lane in the Dceu fell short of expectations, either straying too far from their comic book counterparts or not giving them enough screen time or agency. Despite strong performances, characters like Batman, Deathstroke, Superman, Lex Luthor, and the Joker were not fully realized or given the opportunities to shine in the Dceu, leaving fans disappointed.
The Dceu got several characters right over its 10-year run, but an unfortunate group of heroes and villains were not properly brought to life by the shared universe. Despite a generally strong - though still divisive - start with 2013's Man of Steel, the Dceu never quite seemed to catch a consistent streak of big-screen success. In...

The Blacklist — Pictured: Harry Lennix as Harold Cooper — (Photo by: Will Hart/NBC) Harry Lennix is one of the few cast members of The Blacklist to have been a series regular from the very start, along with James Spader and Diego Klattenhoff. Now that the show has wrapped — it will end with a two-hour series finale next week — it’s been a big change for Lennix. After all, prior to The Blacklist his longest-running job had been the two-season, 26-episode run of Dollhouse. But The Blacklist, of course, has run for 10 seasons and ultimately produced 218 episodes. And that longevity, Lennix told us, plays a big part in why he will miss this show differently than any other job he’s had.
