American screenwriter, who spent most of his career at MGM, (1932 to 1941, and 1950-53), later free-lancing. He was a favorite of actor Clark Gable and director Victor Fleming. One of the founders of the Screenwriter's Guild in 1933, who honoured him with a Laurel Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1957.
