It's the end of an era.
With Good Trouble Season 5 Episode 20, we saw a significant chapter close for this refreshing, conscientious, and inspiring series.
Sadly, not only did the series finale mark the end of Good Trouble, but it also meant the last chapter of The Fosters franchise closed.
The series' end leaves a massive void in the television landscape for similar series that combined a found family element with a timely exploration of social issues while bending genres.
We've lost something special, and that's a sentiment we unpack in our Good Trouble Series Finale Review.
But TV Fanatic had the pleasure of speaking with co-creator, showrunner, and EP Joanna Johnson.
She chatted about ending a decade-long journey, the unexpected cancellation, and the impact Good Trouble leaves behind.
If you haven't watched the series finale already, be warned that there are spoilers below!

Asher has a lot to deal with as Escape Pod opens. The last thing he remembers is getting ready to take a placement test for a position on Starline’s Magellan space mission. Now he’s regained consciousness to find himself in an escape pod with Maia who tells him he’s been working on the Magellan 3 for the past five years.
Now he’s dealing with both memory loss and the realization that he’s floating in space somewhere near Alpha Centauri waiting for NASA to come and rescue him. While he waits, he’s stuck listening to Maia bitching at him because he was an upgrade Technician, a maintenance man in plainer language, he doesn’t remember any of his training. Dn first caught sight of Musa Alderson-Clarke’s tense thriller Killing Boris Johnson back at the Nfts’ graduate showcase earlier this year. It was a film that stood out to us through its blending of a personal narrative of a grief-stricken young man with that of a searing political thriller. These two elements of Alderson-Clarke’s screenplay converge in a fascinating yet smoothly-done psychological manner which makes the writer/director certainly one to watch for the future. It’s no surprise to us that the film kicks off what will undoubtedly be a highly successful festival circuit run by debuting at Cannes today as part of the film festival’s La Cinef Selection, for which it was chosen as one of 16 films from among 2000 projects submitted by film schools from all around the world and is the only UK student film to be included in the festival’s selection. Dn...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 5 premiere of Freeform’s Good Trouble.
Maia Mitchell has returned to The Coterie — but not under happy circumstances. The Season 5 premiere of Good Trouble ends with Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Callie reuniting in their old shared bedroom at the co-living space after Mariana spent the night at the hospital with her former flame (and boss) Evan Speck.
The episode picked up right where Season 4 left off, with Mariana trying to escape from a cult while saving Joaquin’s sister, Jenna. Joaquin (Bryan Craig) was tipped off that Mariana was missing by a concerned Evan (T.J. Linnard), who tags along to rescue the women. In the opening minutes of the episode, someone fires a gun in an attempt to stop the group from escaping, and the bullet hits Evan in the chest.
They rush him to the hospital, where Mariana spends the night with him.

"The Rings of Power" may not have been the "Lord of the Rings" TV show we were expecting, but by the end of its first season, the show proved to be the "Lord of the Rings" TV show we needed. Like the Peter Jackson movies, it drastically changes the source material, moves events and characters around, and otherwise alters the lore to tell its own version of the story.
Some of these changes were for the worse, particularly the keeping things secret to the audience in order to force a mystery around the identity of Sauron and The Stranger. Other changes, however, managed to make the TV show feel like its own version of the tales, grabbing what works best and adapting the rest to fit the medium. And much like with the movie trilogy, you can see some of the changes becoming the new canon in the mind of fans.

Plot: After a series of tragedies, Robert moves with his wife back to her childhood home. After he discovers an old portrait of a man who looks like him, he goes down a rabbit hole to discover the identity of this mysterious doppelganger.
Review: I was shocked to see that The Visitor is coming to us from Blumhouse. Usually, when I see that company, I see quite the marketing blitz. Yet this film has mostly come without so much as a peep. That had me very worried at the onset. Then I watched the trailer and was immediately concerned that I had just been shown the entire film. Unfortunately, that’s kind of true.
The story is just really uninteresting and doesn’t amount to much outside of a light mystery. Sure, it’s interesting that Robert (Jones) moves with his wife Maia (McNamee) into the middle of nowhere and...

This post contains spoilers for episode 5 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The slow-burn nature of "Partings," episode 5 of "The Rings of Power," allows the series to ramp up tensions across Middle-earth, as loyalties are tested on the eve of a dark time. The episode opens with The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and Nori (Markella Kavenagh) having a somber conversation (with Nori doing most of the talking) about good and evil. The identity of The Stranger is one of the core mysteries of the show, as we aren't quite sure whether he's a force of good or evil, but he currently seems capable of both. We cut to the crash site of the Meteor Man, where we see white-robed, hooded figures looking on ominously. Who are these folks?
The group is led by a yet-to-be-identified character (played by Birdie Sisson) whom fans most probably misinterpreted as a...

Though it feels like the phrase “generational trauma” is everywhere these days, it’s only in the past decade that growing mental health awareness has made such terms ubiquitous. Though scientists have long studied the ways inherited trauma can actually alter our DNA, only recently have epigenetics filtered into everyday usage. But artists do not need science to tell them what they feel in their bones, and film is a powerful tool to illustrate the ephemeral memories one stores in the body.
Set between present-day Montreal and 1980s Beirut, “Memory Box” actualizes a treasure trove of unprocessed trauma in the form of a mysterious box of letters, scrapbooks, and tapes. When a curious daughter discovers a vast archive of her mother’s distant past, she begins to understand the difficult woman who raised her in new ways. Madison’s comes toward the middle of the episode, when her character Imogen asks her friends to help her use a Ouija board to talk to her mother, who died at the end of the premiere. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to be one of the biggest TV spectacles ever. Prime Video is sparing no expense in bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision of Middle-earth’s Second Age to its stream, with the first season’s budget already clocking in at nearly half a billion dollars. Surely, such an ambitious undertaking warrants an equally ambitious presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con? It would seem that Prime Video agrees.
Today in Hall H, roughly 6,500 fans were treated to 90 revealing minutes of The Rings of Power‘s massive Sdcc panel. "I don't recognize my mom. She's changed so much." An official trailer is out for a wonderful indie drama titled Memory Box, from Lebanese filmmakers Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige. This premiered at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival last year, and was one of the highlights of the fest, a discovery showcasing a very sentimental and moving story about family and hidden pasts. The film is set partially in Montreal, where it begins. On Christmas Eve, Maia and her teenage daughter Alex receive an unexpected delivery: notebooks, tapes, and photos Maia sent to her best friend from 1980's Beirut. Maia refuses to open the box or confront its memories, but Alex secretly begins diving into it. Between fantasy and reality, Alex enters the world of her mother's tumultuous, passionate adolescence during the Lebanese civil war, unlocking mysteries of a hidden past. It's especially creative with how they work in real archival footage & photos into this story,...

Dominick Parungao is a Filipino-American filmmaker currently living in New Jersey. As with many Aapi filmmakers, the attacks on Asian Americans after Trump’s accusations regarding Covid, were a source of inspiration, with “The Indifference Between Us” focusing exactly on this topic through the relationship of a Chinese-American girl with her grandmother.

The 10-minute short begins in the kitchen, where Ellen, an elderly Chinese woman is “nagging” to her granddaughter, Maia, about the difficulties her generation faced when they first came to the US, and how easy kids these days have it. The girl is polite, but essentially indifferent, not taking her eyes off her smart phone. Eventually, she gets up to leave, but before that, she promises her grandmother to accompany her to the market. A bit later, she meets her girlfriends, and the three of...

Presenting two real-life stories from my days of yore, although names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty.
Story The First:
I knew a girl in high school – I wouldn’t say we were friends, but she was someone who had never participated in the Piggy horrors. Sally was an A+ student, on the track to an Ivy League school. Pretty (but not gorgeous) and popular (but quiet about it), she came to me one day and said that she needed to talk to me privately. I was surprised… and a bit suspicious. What did she want? But because Sally had never been overtly mean to me, even though she was part of the clique that instigated most of the callous cruelties upon me, and because I still hoped to be “accepted,” and I wanted to believe for some reason she was about to warn me...
