Television was a nascent medium in 1949 when Bill Hayes made his debut on “Fireball Fun-For-All,” a zany comedy-variety series fronted by vaudeville comedians Ole Olsen and Chick Johnson.
The series only lasted three months, but that was long enough to set Hayes on the path to become a TV legend through his role as Doug Williams, a pillar of the venerable daytime series “Days of Our Lives” for more than five decades. Hayes, who died Jan. 12 at the age of 98, never forgot the invaluable training he learned from working in the early days of live TV.
“The cameras were huge and immovable back then,” Hayes told Variety in 2018 when he and Susan Seaforth Hayes, his wife of 49 years and longtime “Days” leading lady, were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmy Awards. “They didn’t have the capability of zooming in or out. It was all live until...

Director Phil Hawkins and producer Alexandra Bentley talk to us about their Ukti Talent Goes To Hollywood win and the experiences of the subsequent trip to Los Angeles to meet key figures to pitch their film Baptism – an adaptation of the Max Kinnings novel of the same name.
An armed group take control of a rush hour underground tube train. They blow a hole through the tunnel to release the water from an underground river they believe is blessed and will baptise the passengers of their sins. Ed Mallory, a blind hostage negotiator, has a race against time to try and talk down the hostage takers and save the lives of everyone onboard.
The interview was also an opportunity to discuss the wider role of Ukti and British filmmakers developing their products overseas. Here’s the teaser trailer they made that turned heads both in the UK and USA www.

There had been rumours, but a big screen remake of Renny Harlin’s 1993 movie (which starred Sylvester Stallone) is now moving ahead at StudioCanal with Neal Moritz set to produce.
After meeting with a number of screenwriters who pitched their take on a new interpretation, it was relative unknown Joe Gazzam who was picked to write the screenplay.
Sony will likely distribute the movie, despite the fact that they have a far more interesting sounding mountain climbing project already in the works. Everest will be directed by Doug Liman, with Tom Hardy attached to play Sir Edward Mallory, the British mountaineer who tried to be first to summit the world’s highest mountain.
That’s not the only movie called Everest in the works, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Robin Wright, Jason Clarke and John Hawkes all starring in the Baltasar Kormakur helmed film about a disastrous attempt to summit...

Sylvester Stallone movie Cliffhanger is to be remade.
Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz has teamed up with scriptwriter Joe Gazzam for the project, according to Deadline.
The film will be a reimagining of the 1993 action thriller, which starred Stallone as a rescue ranger who finds himself involved in a failed heist.
Cliffhanger is the latest in a series of classic action films to receive remakes, following the likes of Total Recall, RoboCop and the upcoming Point Break.
Sony - who own Moritz's Original Pictures - is also developing the mountain-climbing film Everest, starring Tom Hardy as Sir Edward Mallory.

Exclusive: Producer Neal Moritz and StudioCanal are ready to move forward with Cliffhanger, a re-imagining of the 1993 Renny Harlin-directed mountain climbing film that starred Sylvester Stallone. They’ve set Joe Gazzam to write the screenplay after he was among a group of screenwriters who pitched their take on a movie that still holds up as a guilty pleasure. The original was made by Carolco before that company crashed, and TriStar distributed it. StudioCanal ended up with the rights. There is no domestic distributor in place, but since Moritz’s Original Pictures is Sony-based, that studio should get a first crack at the project. Sony already has a mountain climbing project in Everest, the Doug Liman-directed film that has Tom Hardy attached to play Sir Edward Mallory, the British mountaineer who tried to be first to summit the world’s highest mountain. Cross Creek, Walden and Universal financed another film called Everest,...

Charlton Heston movies: ‘A Man for All Seasons’ remake, ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ (photo: Charlton Heston as Ben-Hur) (See previous post: “Charlton Heston: Moses Minus Staff Plus Chariot Equals Ben-Hur.”) I’ve yet to watch Irving Rapper’s melo Bad for Each Other (1954), co-starring the sultry Lizabeth Scott — always a good enough reason to check out any movie, regardless of plot or leading man. A major curiosity is the 1988 made-for-tv version of A Man for All Seasons, with Charlton Heston in the Oscar-winning Paul Scofield role (Sir Thomas More) and on Fred Zinnemann’s director’s chair. Vanessa Redgrave, who plays Thomas More’s wife in the TV movie (Wendy Hiller in the original) had a cameo as Anne Boleyn in the 1966 film. According to the IMDb, Robert Bolt, who wrote the Oscar-winning 1966 movie (and the original play), is credited for the 1988 version’s screenplay as well. Also of note,...

In Part Three below, Reeves recalls the Jack & Jennifer phenomenon, how she resisted the pressures that went along with the popularity, and the downside of fame following Matt Ashford's firing. Why exactly did she cut her hair? Find out below!
