The premise of the 2015 HBO series "The Brink" seems ripe for comedic potential and salient political satire. Among the show's main characters are the ultra-horny United States Secretary of State Walter Larson (Tim Robbins), and Alex Talbot (oft-underrated blockbuster champ Jack Black) a random Foreign Service officer who is assigned to Islamabad as it stands on the brink of a nuclear crisis. It seems a local radical has taken it upon himself to declare World War III has officially begun, and the story follows that revelation as Larson and Talbot incompetently oversee the matter. The show also stars Aasif Mandvi, Pablo Schreiber, John Larroquette, and Esai Morales as the U.S. President.
Robbins and Black had worked together on several occasions before "The Brink," usually on political projects that satirized or lambasted restrictive and corrupt American institutions. Black appeared in Robbins' films "Bob Roberts" (which marked Black's feature debut), "Dead Man Walking,...

It was the fall of 2004, and there was nothing like "Lost." While narrative arcs had finally become part of television, helped by sci-fi predecessors like "Babylon 5" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Lost" used the technique to make its mark. It starts with a horrifying airplane incident, a passenger jet splitting in half high in the sky. Three years after 9/11, it was a ballsy play. But the survivors awoke in a tropical paradise, where little was as it seemed.
We were gripped by revelations that shocked us: Terry O'Quinn's walkabout turns into an inexplicable miracle, a mysterious signal is picked up, a monster made of smoke lurks at the fringes, and of course, the fateful discovery of the hatch. "Lost" didn't stick the landing as we devoured all six seasons (or maybe it did), with some mysteries turned...

There are some team-ups that you just don’t expect. One of those is coming to Peacock, as The Miniature Wife finds its lead cast. This comedy series sounds like a blast.
There is little known about the series and the characters just yet. However, with the casting alone, this is sure to be a series to watch out for. Plus, Peacock does well with these types of comedy shows, offering something light in the midst of all the darker television that is out there.
Matthew Macfadyen is joined by Elizabeth Banks in The Miniature Wife
Succession star Matthew Macfadyen will join The Hunger Games actress Elizabeth Banks in the new Peacock show. They will lead the one-hour comedy series, which focuses on a power struggled between husband and wife when there’s a technical mishap. Yes, they are the husband and wife, and we can just see how it will all play out now.

Jason Isaacs once again wowed fans with his brilliant performance in The White Lotus, and it was his other sinister performance that actually inspired the character of Commander Zhao in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Turns out that the character was directly inspired by Isaacs’ performance in The Patriot.
Jason Isaacs would actually go on to play Commander Zhao, who was one of the most ruthless characters in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. With little to no regard for how the natural world works, Zhao might have been the perfect Fire Nation soldier, but was definitely one of the worst offenders in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

What if someone took a formulaic, yet fun monster-of-the-week approach to a supernatural procedural show, and soaked it in a delightful blend of strange and over-the-top tropes? This might feel a tad predictable — dated, even — when measured against similar story formats made for television, but some shows manage to break all molds while experimenting with the familiar. Robert and Michelle King's "Evil" is one such entity, as it has consistently challenged perceptions and reinvented itself over the course of its four-season run. While one would expect a supernatural series to take a case-per-week approach, "Evil" isn't scared to oscillate between bleak humor and deliberately campy overtones to fuel its fascinating premise. All four seasons of the show is now streaming in full on Paramount+ (with the first three seasons available on Netflix).
In "Evil," David (Mike Colter) begins as a priest-in-training, who is joined by forensic psychologist Kristen (Katja Herbers...

From 2019 to 2024, Evilsent its central characters into one terrifying situation after another. One of the best parts of the show was the ambiguity around demons, angels, and the like. Yet, some of Evil's scariest episodes were when humans were behind whatever horror the characters investigated. Originally debuting on the CBS network and then moving to streaming for Season 2, Evil was The X-Filesif Mulder and Scully were backed by the Catholic Church instead of the Federal government and Mulder was a priest.

There was a lot of good TV in 2024. It was an unusual year overall, the product of a post-strike Hollywood in the midst of a feverish industry-wide evolution from streaming to the cineplex, but plenty of great series still flowed throughout the year. Horror TV was no different: a slowdown in output didn’t mean a slowdown in quality, and there were a handful of outstanding horror shows in 2024 — a couple of them easily among the best shows of the year overall, and sadly, a couple of them also bowing out for their final seasons.
Here are our picks for the best of the best horror TV shows of 2024.
“Interview With the Vampire” Season 2 (AMC) ‘Interview With the Vampire’

Stephen King is a horror genre staple, and he often recommends TV shows or movies that he enjoys. He's best known for iconic horror novels such as The Shining and It, and has remained in the public spotlight for his books and adaptations of his work. Stephen King even has another book on the way, continuing a legacy that has scared readers for decades.
Because of his reputation in the horror genre, many trust his recommendations for different works, whether they be novels, TV shows, or even films. The genres of his recommendations often vary, but horror still seems to be the most consistent. Though many of King's books could still use sequels, his recommended shows such as Cabinet of Curiosities and Midnight Mass will have to do in the meantime.

2024 had a lot of TV shows ending, which included plenty of sci-fi and fantasy shows. And some of those endings left fans hungry for more!
It's no surprise that TV networks and streamers have a bad habit of canceling some shows too early. That's more true for sci-fi and fantasy shows that have a harder time capturing a large audience to justify their large budgets. It's jarring that some shows barely seemed to get out of the gate before being cut short. From famous shows to more overlooked ones, here's a look at the sci-fi/fantasy show cancellations that really angered folks in 2024!

Some may argue that this Star Wars show about a pair of Force-sensitive sisters was bad.

Fans of the hit horror-mystery series Evil that discovered the show when its first two seasons hit Netflix back in April have a lot to celebrate this New Year’s Eve, as a release date has been set for when Season 3 will debut on the streaming service. First premiering back in 2019 on CBS, the series made the jump to Paramount+ in 2021, where it remained up until the bittersweet end in August of this year.
Per What’s on Netflix, all 10 episodes of Evil Season 3 will drop on Dec. 31, making it the perfect way to ring in the new year if you’ve got nothing else planned. The Golden Globes nominations have hit, and there are some surprising and frustrating snubs among them.
Whenever the Golden Globes are announced, the talk is less about who got nominated than who didn’t. The sad truth is that with so many shows competing, there are only so many slots, and the Globes should be commended for recognizing more streaming shows than the Emmys do.
This year had a few nice surprises, like Kate Winslet forThe Regime. A few snubs aren’t too shocking. Palm Royale wasn’t exactly a great show. However, others seem to be the thing Golden Globes voters would go for. They were critically acclaimed, had big buzz, and seemed set for a nomination but didn’t get it. While there are many contenders, these rank as the 10 surprising TV snubs of the 2025 Golden Globes, which may confuse their fans.

Of all the horror shows that premiered in the year 2024 (or debuted a new season), which one do you see yourself re-watching because it was just that good? I can think of a few!
In our list of the best horror shows of 2024, we include both new shows and old favorites that dropped a new season. But before we begin, let’s quickly mention the worst of the worst. On our list below, you will not find Hulu’s American Horror Stories or FX’s Grotesquerie, the latter being one series we wish we could unsee! Yes, it’s that awful.
And as far as honorable mentions go, we have to give a shout to Them: The Scare and Dead Boy Detectives. Now, drumroll for our top four….

A new season of the supernatural drama series Evil is finally being added to Netflix later this month. CBS/Paramount+ produced four seasons of the quirky, at times outrageous, horror-leaning show, but Evil finally died in 2024. Netflix subscribers have been able to enjoy the first two seasons of demonic action on the now-canceled series, but season 3 has been absent from the service, while Evil season 4 just streamed in 2024.
That’s all about to change, however, as Netflix reveals that Evil season 3 is finally being added to the lineup, beginning on December 31 (via Tudum). The first three seasons of the show are now available to Netflix subscribers, while season 4 remains a Paramount+ exclusive for the time-being.

The following contains spoilers for Evil, now streaming on Netflix and Paramount+Evil's best characters range from the heroic to the demonic, all filtered through the show's unique blend of character drama, unexpected comedy, and grim horror. Evil focuses on a group of "Assessors," tasked with the Church to investigate potential demonic forces operating on Earth. The procedural nature of the show allowed for almost every episode to have stand-alone qualities, even as it expanded the universe and explored the grim backstories of the central heroes.
One of the things that makes the show such a compelling watch (to the point where Stephen King was a vocal champion of Evil) is the attention paid to the show's central cast of characters. There are plenty of classic horror archetypes in the show's cast, but they're all given unexpected shades that make them uniquely compelling. These edges elevate the series into a fantastic show.

After being mostly unheard of for years, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullocks 2009 rom-com The Proposal is suddenly a hit on Disney+s global chart. Although the title has been available across multiple platforms which in the U.S. include Hulu, Freevee, Prime Video and several others in many countries, the film has been getting a helpful push by Disney+ for one reason; to catch the wave of attention Reynolds is about to generate on the platform with Deadpool & Wolverines imminent arrival.
For those who saw Deadpool & Wolverine in cinemas, or on PVOD services, you will remember that The Proposal received a hilarious name-check by that lovely version of Deadpool with the long, flowing hair and the mushy and nice personality right before he was brutally slaughtered - oh, sorry Peanut, spoilers. The same joke also made fun of the self-referencing fourth wall breaking humor that the Marvel motor mouth has become known for,...

During the 1953 world premiere of Samuel Beckett’s absurdist masterpiece, Waiting for Godot, at Paris’ Théâtre de Babylone, the curtain came down about 40 minutes into the first act as audience members whistled and hooted derisively. While the critics were accepting of the play, it presold few tickets for the American debut tour three years later in Washington and Philadelphia, prompting a move to Miami’s Coconut Grove Playhouse for a two-week run starring Bert Lahr and Tom Ewell. Promoted as “the laugh sensation of two continents,” it was greeted by vacationers with bafflement and described as a play where nothing happens. The reaction was so predictable that cabbies waited outside the theater for early exiters. Not surprisingly, the New York engagement was canceled.
“Nothing happens, that’s the thing. It’ll be interesting to see, when we put this up in front of an audience for the first time, how they respond.

Evil recently wrapped up its run after four seasons, disappointing fans who felt there was still a lot of potential to keep going with the series. Though the show has ended, its fan base continues to grow as more viewers find the series on streaming, but the downside may be that these fans didn't discover the series quickly enough to save it.
Series creators Michelle King and Robert King spoke about Evil during an interview with Screen Rant at New York Comic Con. While Michelle is thrilled that appreciation for the series continues to grow, Robert admitted that it's a bit disappointing that this surge in popularity couldn't have happened just one year earlier. He went on to suggest that it's probably too late at this point for the increased popularity to get the series a renewal, but at the same time, Robert noted that a revival wouldn't be impossible.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Evil After four seasons, the supernatural crime drama Evil came to a close this past August with a series finale that left fans wanting more. Often praised for its creative uniqueness among television shows, Evil deftly combined an exploration of faith and possession with the inherent evil that exists in the choices of man. The series' cancelation was announced in February, with Paramount+ announcing that the creators would be given just four additional episodes to wrap up the series. While fans may be disappointed with the strings left untied, this uncertain representation of finality is a rough though worthwhile ending to the series that speaks to the lingering question of what creates evil.

If there's one thing that makes a show like Evil stand apart, it's the magnificently crafted demons, monsters, and other creatures that show up. The series follows a trio of Catholic Church assessors Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) who try to debunk, uncover, and otherwise examine paranormal happenings around the New York area. The show gave us more than a few frights throughout its 50 episodes and was never afraid to make the monsters bigger, bolder, and more ridiculous than ever. But are the demons of Evil real? And how did movie magic bring them to life? With the series now over, these answers will have to hold us over until we can get more...

Have you ever wondered what sort of stories folks like Stephen King like to watch, read, or enjoy? With the hit CBS-turned-Paramount+ series Evil coming to a close, King has been fairly vocal about his thoughts regarding the cancelation, mainly that he hopes the show will instead continue. Following the misadventures of Catholic assessors Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), the series deals with everything from miracles and demonic encounters to the nature of evil and divine providence, all from a skeptics' point of view. But if the King of Horror is a major fan of your horror series, it might be time for the network to listen...

While Leiv Schreiber has a series currently dominating the Netflix streaming charts, there's only a short amount of time left to watch one of his movies that's leaving the platform soon. Netflix has officially announced that Human Capital, which Schreiber stars in alongside Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei, will depart Netflix on September 22 with no new streaming home in sight. The film tells the story of two families whose lives unexpectedly collide when their children begin dating and their relationship leads to a shocking tragedy. In addition to Shreiber and Tomei, Human Capital also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Maya Hawke, Alex Wolff, Paul Sparks, Betty Gabriel, and Aasif Mandvi, and the film currently sits at a 65% rating from critics and an 87% score from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

From 2019 to 2024, Evil sent its central characters into one terrifying situation after another. One of the best parts of the show was the ambiguity around demons, angels and the like. Yet, some of Evil's scariest episodes were when humans were the ones behind whatever horror the characters investigated. Originally debuting on the CBS network and then moving to streaming for Season 2, Evil was The X-Files if Mulder and Scully were backed by the Catholic Church instead of the Federal government and Mulder was a priest.
The series focused on four central characters, the "demonic assessors" for St. Joseph's Church in New York. David Acosta (Mike Colter) was a seminarian and leader of the team. Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) was the scientist and technology expert as well as an atheist. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) was a psychiatrist and lapsed Catholic who evaluated the possessed medically and also loved David. Lastly,...

There has never quite been a show like the CBS-turned-Paramount+ drama Evil, nor will there ever be one like it again. This supernatural horror procedural checks all the boxes you could hope for in a thriller or mystery series, bringing together psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), priest-in-training David Acosta (Mike Colter), and technical expert Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) as the three work on behalf of the Catholic Church investigating potential miracles, possessions, and other supernatural happenings, often unsure if there's enough evidence for the paranormal or if it's all mind games. But while the show becomes more serialized after its first season, one Season 2 episode stands out among the rest as being one of the best representations of the show's ultimate potential: "S Is for Silence."...

The following contains spoilers for Evil season 4 episode 14, "Fear of the End," now streaming on Paramount+Evil's season four finale is also effectively the ending of the fan-favorite horror series, even if it leaves a number of door open for further adventures. Across four seasons, Evil's central trio of psychiatric consultant Kristen Bouchard, priest David Acosta, and inventive contractor Ben Shakir have survived plenty of the worst kinds of threats the world can throw at them. Along the way, they've also confronted the darkest corners of their own mortality and come out the other side stronger and united in the face of evil.
This carries through the series finale, "Fear of the End," which brings back many elements from previous seasons and effectively works as a closing chapter of the series. This includes resolving their long-running conflict with the dangerous Leland, as well as their prickly relationship with the Catholic Church.

"Evil" just ended a few weeks ago, but there's already a campaign to bring the surreal, incredible Paramount+ show back for another season – and it's being spearheaded by the most famous horror author in the world.
Stephen King made his love of the four-season series known in a recent interview with PBS news (shared via series star Katja Herbers' X account), telling a reporter, "There's a show called 'Evil' on Paramount+ that I like." He continued: "It's great. It's funny and it's witty and it's very, very sharp." Five days after the series ended, Herbers shared the video with the caption, "Okay Can We Do The Pick Up Now? thank you @StephenKing #Evil." The prolific author got the memo: on August 31, 2024, he simply tweeted, "Dear Paramount+: More Evil, please."
So why is King stumping for this show on social media? Well, because it's exactly as great as he says.

Hell hath no fury like fans who lose a brilliant show before its time. Such is the case with Evil, the supernatural series unlike anything else on screens. When word came down from on high that Evil would end with the conclusion of its fourth season, fans rallied online to save the show from cancelation, with the show’s brilliant star, Katja Herbers, leading the charge. Herber’s enthusiasm for the series is inspiring, with the actress championing the show’s continuation at every turn, signaling to networks and streamers that Team Evil is ready and willing to continue the show’s unique spin on the all but extinct and nostalgic monster-of-the-week formula. Helping to add fuel to Herbers’ fire is the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King, who recently sang Evil’s praises during a PBS News interview. With such a ringing endorsement from one of entertainment’s most sought-after creators,...

Spoilers for the Evil series finale.
Evil season 5 would have focused more on courtroom scenes inspired by The Good Wife. The doppelganger storyline from the final episodes would have continued with more involvement. More demons were planned to infect the court and actors from The Good Wife and The Good Fight might have appeared.
Evil creators Robert and Michelle King open up about what their plans for season 5 would have been, elaborating on how the show's final episodes served as a preview. Evil concluded in a somewhat unexpected place, with Kristen (Katja Herbers) and David (Mike Colter) restarting their Assessor Program in Rome while their friend Ben (Aasif Mandvi) stays behind for his high-paying job.
