The Cartoon Network series "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends" lasted six seasons on the network, but many fans (myself included) still believe the show ended way too soon. Created by Craig McCraken and running from 2004-2009, "Foster's Home" delivered a magical world where imaginary friends are not only real but a necessary part of life. The show centered on eight-year-old Mac (Sean Marquette) who brings his imaginary friend Bloo (Keith Ferguson) to live at Madame Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends after his mom declares that he's too old for an imaginary friend. While Foster's is typically a boarding house for imaginary friends...

Directed by William J. Stribling (Bear With Us), who also wrote alongside Russ Nickel (Zombielust), The Speed of Time is an action-comedy starring WWE Superstar John (Morrison) Hennigan. Meet Johnny Killfire (great name), who’s gotta go back in time to team with his younger self in order to stop TimeBorgs from getting hold of a pizza delivery app that will break the space-time continuum. Yes… that’s the synopsis here, that’s the nutshell explanation of The Speed of Time. I’m in.
Hennigan has been growing as an actor over the years, with films like Boone the Bounty Hunter, The Most Dangerous Game, Strange Nature and small parts in movies like Birds of Prey under his belt. He’s a veteran in the wrestling ring, but he...

"Too late... we're here!" Time for a killer sci-fi short! Or maybe you've already watched but are just reading the post now? The Speed of Time is a funny time travel short directed by William J. Stribling, and written by Russ Nickel & Stribling. John Hennigan stars as Johnny Killfire, a future cop who must go back in time and team up with his former self in order to stop the TimeBorgs from getting their hands on an app that could break the space-time continuum by delivering pizzas into the past... before they were even ordered. This also stars Sean Marquette, Alex Jennings, and Nic Nemeth. And features "The Speed of Time", an original song by Dylan Glatthorn. It doesn't reinvent the time travel wheel, but it is an amusing sci-fi action short with one killer Killfire performance that makes it a tasty "steaming hot belly bomb." This is a fun one.

A campfire tale for the social media age, Friend Request is Hollywood’s latest attempt to portray the internet as a scary place. It’s a conventional and predictable horror yarn, though well-executed enough that if you go in with lowered expectations, you may have some fun with it. Friend Request begins promisingly, introducing protagonist Laura Woodson (Alycia Debnam-Carey) in a lively and well-edited montage showing how she blends her real life with the internet. Laura is an outgoing popular college sophomore with plenty of friends including close ones Olivia (Brit Morgan), Izzy (Brooke Markham) and Gus (Sean Marquette), boyfriend Tyler (William Moseley), and over 800 more on Facebook (though the word ‘Facebook’ is never actually uttered in the film). She accepts a friend request from a fellow student, the damaged goth misfit Marina Nedifar (anagram of ‘A Friend’ – and played by Liesl Ahlers), who seems to do little except stare...

While today’s technology-laden world makes a lot of things easier, it also comes at a price. Things may be easier than ever before, allowing us to be more productive in ways we never imagined, but it can sometimes open up all sorts of unexpected dangers.
There have been all kinds of horror movies that use technology at its center. One Missed Call used the cell phone, Unfriended was a horror film that took place over an extensive Skype conversation, and now, Friend Request takes the idea of social media and mixes it with a dash of more traditional horror elements, including witchcraft. But is it enough to make this film anything more than another gimmick?
Based on the trailer, it’s difficult to say. At some points, the concepts seems pretty interesting, but at others, it comes across as more of a cringefest. This one also has an interesting release history.

As society continues to further the threshold of technological advancement, horror cinema must adapt accordingly. More than any other genre, horror films mirror social phenomenons to exploit generational norms. Wireless carriers rarely drop service, smartphones can be tracked via Gps locators, handheld devices can research data on-the-spot – it’s getting harder and harder for on-screen killers to dupe victims these days. That’s why movies like Unfriended, The Den and Cam2Cam have ushered in a new cyber-terror scourge, something that Simon Verhoeven’s Friend Request looks to upgrade.
Alycia Debnam-Carey stars as Laura, a popular college co-ed with a healthy social following on Facebook (it’s never spoken, but it’s Facebook). Out of the blue one night, she receives a friend request from one of her loner classmates (Marina Mills, played by Liesl Ahlers). Social media and horror cinema meet again, in Friend Request. Here's our review...
It is my understanding that young people today think Facebook is rubbish and favour apps like Snapchat to exchange misspelled insults and pictures of their sexual organs, so here’s a timely bit of techno-horror to crack the 'millennial' market. In fairness, Friend Request doesn’t mention Facebook once, but it does use every bit of terminology we associate with it, along with its fonts, layout and colour scheme. This illustrates just how embedded into everyday life Facebook’s verbal and visual grammar is, and Friend Request even finds time to be a bit scary every now and then.
There’s still a part of me that can’t watch characters using the internet or smartphones on film without wincing a little. It still feels like a cheat to me when used as a plot device,...

Apparently, I’m the “stoner comedy” guy at JustPressPlay. That’s fine. I can live with that. After reviewing Mac & Devin, I declared a personal vendetta against stoner flicks, however; John Stalberg's High School has changed my opinion. For the better.
The day after valedictorian Henry (Matt Bush) takes his first hit of “da chronic,” his high school principal (Michael Chiklis, equal parts creepy and menacing here) decides to institute mandatory drug testing for the entire student body after the school’s spelling bee champ flubs a word due to being stoned out of her brain. Stalberg's comedy, which he co-wrote with Erik Linthorst and Stephen Susco, stars Matt Bush as Henry, a smart kid on the way to being named valedictorian and taking off to MIT on an academic scholarship. On a seemingly normal day, he crashes into the principal's car while trying to avoid a head-on collision with Travis (Sean Marquette), the school stoner. The pair, once friends and now thrown together by circumstance, find themselves rekindling a tiny portion of their relationship and they share a joint, a simple mistake that takes on epic proportions when the principal Dr. Leslie, brilliantly played by an unrecognizable Michael Chiklis, announces mandatory drug testing of the entire student body with those failing being expelled. “I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner…” No truer words could represent the existence of John Stalberg Jr.’s High School, a film that sat on a shelf following a blistering run at Sundance in 2010, only to be released theatrically, in a very limited fashion, in June of this year. It’s the simple tale of two former friends whose paths have diverged in their later teen years. Henry Burke (Matt Bush) is the soon-to-be Valedictorian of his class, with a promising future awaiting him at M.I.T. Travis Breaux (Sean Marquette) is a burnout who spends more time wiping sharpie marker penises off his face than he does hitting the books. After a pre-school accident lands them together in detention, Breaux convinces Henry that his path to relaxation must go through the forrest of the sticky green, the cannabis sativa. And so they smoke marijuanna, not knowing that tomorrow will bring about a school-wide...

Title: High School Directed By: John Stalberg Starring: Matt Bush, Sean Marquette, Adrien Brody, Michael Chiklis, Colin Hanks, Adhir Kalyan Perhaps I’m a bit too liberal, but if someone back in high school plotted to get the entire student body high in attempt to not get in trouble for failing a drug test, even if I was a mere pawn in their ploy, I’d get a kick out of it and while that is very much true when the same event goes down in the movie High School, rather than relish in the genius and hilarity of the idea, an overly convoluted and silly plot puts it in a fog. In broad-strokes genre pieces, most of the best movie concepts can be delineated in concise fashion, and bring an instant, head-slapping (“Of course, why didn’t I think of that!”) sense of identification and intrigue. Such is certainly the case in director John Stahlberg’s “High School,” in which soon-to-be valedictorian Henry (Matt Bush) takes a healthy hit of weed from his estranged stoner friend, Breaux (Sean Marquette), the day before his deranged principal (Michael Chiklis) institutes a sweeping anti-drug policy that jeopardizes the academic goodwill and standing for which Henry has labored so long. Another Memorial Day weekend come and gone, and here we are: summer has begun. Temperatures are rising all over the place, and you might have trouble finding comfort, let alone sleep, with all the humidity. You could make like the olden days and take to the air-conditioned cinema houses to beat the heat. With fairy tales, horror flicks, historical epics and more, there’s plenty of material to keep you in that ice-cold seat, eyes glued to the screen. Take note, however: the gore/scare factor is high this week; these movies probably won’t help you sleep at night.
The second Snow White flick of the year hits theaters this weekend, offering a much darker, gothic take on the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale than its predecessor. Rupert Sanders helms “Snow White and the Huntsman,” in which the titular Snow White (Kristen Stewart) and Hunky Hunter (Chris Hemsworth) join forces...

Even as the subgenre ages, however, it’s impossible to note the lowered aspirations of filmmakers each time out, as “pot” comedy has become part of a genre where increasingly timid filmmakers merely check off boxes in lieu of embracing the kind of irreverence that comes with the use of controlled substances. By the self-consciously layered title, you can guess where “High School” falls on this spectrum.
Matt Bush stars as high school valedictorian candidate Henry, a straight-arrow who is now eyeing colleges as his next step into a fruitful adult life. A chance encounter reunites him with classmate Travis (Sean Marquette), a former pre-pubescent friend that clean-cut Henry barely, condescendingly, recognizes. This rasta-inspired slacker, with wool cap and pockets loaded with weed, opts to reach out to his former friend after a perceived slight.

Anchor Bay Films has provided ComingSoon.net with an exclusive clip from John Stalberg Jr.'s stoner comedy High School , plus we have an exclusive interview with one of the film's stars, Michael Chiklis. The movie stars Matt Bush as Henry Burke, a high school valedictorian who decides to try marijuana for the first time just before the school's Principal Gordon (Chiklis) decides to institute a .zero tolerance" policy on drugs, forcing all the students to take mandatory drug tests. Since Henry doesn't want to be expelled before graduating, he and his best friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) steal a highly-dosed stash from the local drugdealer, Psycho Ed (played by Oscar winner Adrien Brody), with plans to get the entire school and staff stoned. The exclusive clip is actually the...

High School
Directed by John Stahlberg
Screenplay by Erik Linthorst and John Stalberg
2010, USA
The words “stoner comedy” give rise to odious associations, making one expect a haphazard, loosely plotted, and unfunny mess – and, in almost all cases, rightfully so. John Stahlberg’s riotous and very funny High School elides such easy dismissal through a combination of inspired casting, tireless comic energy and an irresistibly simple narrative hook.
Valedictorian candidate and all-around overachiever Henry (Matt Bush, best known as the fellow who tirelessly attacked Jesse Eisenberg’s balls in Adventureland) is only days away from securing his academic future when a chance encounter with childhood-friend-turned-stranger and general stoned layabout Travis (Sean Marquette) leads him to smoke pot for the first time in his life. Immediately following this brief indiscretion, his school’s relentlessly ordered principal (a bewigged Michael Chikis) announces that the entire school will be subject to a drug test,...

For those who have forgotten — as it has been a long time – I absolutely adored John Stalberg Jr.‘s High School when I saw it at Sundance 2010. We’ve still got a glowing review to prove it. And now with it finally primed to hit theaters on June 1, we’re more than happy to share anything and everything the folks at Anchor Bay throw our way. Why? Because it’s a humorous, unique blast of insanity that’s worth our support. It’s worth your support at the box office as well. The story is simple: “The day after soon-to-be valedictorian Henry Burke (Matt Bush) takes a hit of the chronic for the first time, his school principal (Michael Chiklis) institutes a zero tolerance drug policy and administers a mandatory drug test for all students. Adrien Brody is all tatted up and wondering what the hell he’s doing here. No, not Adrien Brody the actor, but Adrien Brody’s pot-dealing character in John Stalberg’s 2010 comedy “High School”. (Get it? High? And it’s set in high school? Oh, you crazy kids.) Check out a red band trailer and new poster for the film, which is finally getting its theatrical release a month from now. In the film, a high school valedictorian who gets baked with the local stoner finds himself the subject of a drug test. So what does he do? Why, what any of us wold do in that situation — he tries to get his entire graduating class baked so they will all fail the drug test, then no one would be the wiser! Man, it’s so brilliant, it’s foolproof! Which reminds me: pot is bad, kids, mmmkay? Starring Adrien Brody,...

Anchor Bay is finally releasing High School on June 1, over two years after it made an impact at the Sundance Film Festival and was quickly picked up for distribution. I'm not entirely sure what the wait was, but perhaps it's the fact we're talking about a stoner comedy and not a specifically timed art piece. I don't believe there is ever a right or wrong time to release a stoner comedy, you just throw it at the wall and see if it sticks. Attempting to gain your eye balls, Anchor Bay has followed the continuing trend of giving away the farm and released a red band trailer for the upcoming pic, which centers on soon-to-be valedictorian Henry Burke (Matt Bush) who, after taking his first hit of marijuana, learns his school principal (Michael Chiklis) has instituted a zero tolerance drug policy and will be administering a mandatory drug test for all students.

After Adrien Brody gave one of the most drop-dead serious performances in Detachment this year, he is flipping the switch yet again for the stoner comedy High School. To appease the juvenile subsection of humans that believe today is some sort of holiday, the distributors have launched a new red band trailer from Hulu, following our first trailer just earlier this month.
It’s sometimes nice to see Brody go all out and this doesn’t look to be an exception. The concept of getting an entire school completely baked could be a bit fun. And it’s nice see Adventureland star Matt Bush get a leading role, who is joined by Sean Marquette, Colin Hanks, Adhir Kalyan, Mykelti Williamson and Michael Chiklis in John Stalberg Jr‘s comedy. Check out the trailer below.

Here's a new Red-Band trailer for the funny pot-comedy, High School, which stars Adrian Brody in one of the craziest roles he's ever done. Seriously, he's an insane nutcase in the film and if you need any reason to see this movie, it's to see Brody go nuts. I saw the film up at Sundance a couple of years ago, and I thought it was a great comedy. You can read my review of the film here.
The film was directed by John Stalberg, and also stars Michael Chiklis, Colin Hanks, Sean Marqutte, and Matt Burke.

Forget being saved by the bell, in the new stoner flick "High School," the only thing that can save soon-to-be valedictorian Henry Burke (Matt Bush) is the nature's natural high. (Or, to be more exact, pot brownies.)
It all starts when squeaky clean Henry takes a hit for the first time, which unfortunately happens to be the same day his school principal (Michael Chiklis) institutes a zero tolerance drug policy and administers a mandatory drug test for all students.
Now Henry has two options: fail and lose his college scholarship, or team up with his stoner friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) to beat the system. They steal a high powered ganja from law student-turned-drug-dealer Psycho Ed (Adrien Brody) and spike the school’s bake sale brownies, getting the whole school -- faculty included -- completely stoned.

Adrien Brody's career after he won the Best Actor Oscar for the The Pianist has been . . . interesting. In recent years, he's appeared in the campy sci-fi movie Splice and tried to be a action star in Predators. Lately, people have seen Brody in commercials for Gillette and Stella Artois. But Brody is back on the big screen and this time it's a role of a drugged out pot dealer in the stoner movie High School.

It's interesting to look back at the first time I mentioned High School on this site. It was back in January 2010 and it was in an article discussing the hot films coming out of Sundance. In that article I mentioned Splice, The Kids are All Right, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Blue Valentine, The Killer Inside Me, Catfish, Buried and, last but not least, High School. So, yeah, it was amongst some pretty impressive company, but while people seemed to love it, it hasn't found a release date until now. Anchor Bay Films will release High School on June 1 and they have just sent over the first domestic trailer for the film which begins as a random drug test coincides with a high school valedictorian's first hit of pot. With his college scholarship at stake, he enlists the school's biggest stoner to help nullify the results of the screening -...

The official trailer has been released for the pot comedy High School. I saw this film up at Sundance two years ago, and it's finally getting released! I thought this movie was great, and I think many of you might enjoy it as well. Here's what I had to say in my review,
The movie is just as good as it sounds! I had such a great time watching this film, it was just a fun high school comedy adventure, and it hits all the right notes as it plays out. The movie definitely has the makings of being a classic comedy film, one of those movies that people will watch for years to come and quote lines from. It’s got that same feel as many other classic High School films, but this one takes things down a hysterically darker road. The movie was extremely funny, and it had...
