Irish character from Broadway in Hollywood's early talkies -- played both benevolent and unscrupulous types, usually minor roles.
Prolific on Broadway between 1918 and 1928. Subsequently concentrated on screen acting and also worked as a dialogue director in the early 1940's.
He appeared in four Best Picture Academy Award winners:
