Glengarry Glen Ross will take over Palace Theatre this spring.
The revival of the David Mamet play, starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, will start previews at the theater March 10, ahead of a March 31 opening. The production is scheduled to play a strict 12-week limited run.
The play takes over the Palace Theatre after the abrupt closure of the Tammy Faye musical on Dec. 8. Tammy Faye had been the first Broadway production to play the theater after it underwent a multiyear renovation and was raised 30-feet in the air and was meant to usher in its grand reopening. The theater boasts a seating capacity of 1,306 and has typically been used for musicals, which are seen as drawing larger crowds, rather than plays.
The production will be directed by Patrick Marber, who won a 2023 Tony Award for his direction of Leopoldstadt. Odenkirk and Burr will make their Broadway debuts in the play.

No one could ever accuse legendary rockers Spinal Tap of being static. While fans reveled in the group’s heavy metal phase in the documentary This Is Spinal Tap, one of the U.K.’s loudest bands had already gone through many iterations. The boys once played skiffle as members of The Originals, a name that changed to The New Originals once they discovered another band with the same moniker, then back to The Originals when the original Originals broke up.
Then the band became the Thamesmen, scoring a hit with their song, “Gimme Some Money.”
They eventually became Spinal Tap, but not the hard-rocking version chronicled in the movie. In 1967, the group sold psychedelic love with their smash, “Listen to the Flower People.”
So it makes sense that in the years since This Is Spinal Tap was released, the band has undergone more changes. In an interview with Empire...

Decades before shows like "Search Party" took an ever-shifting approach to the comedic TV format, "Laverne & Shirley" was switching things up season after season. The "Happy Days" spinoff started with a pretty consistent premise in its early seasons, focusing on two zany roommates working at a Milwaukee bottling company. By season 5, though, tomboy Laverne (Penny Marshall) and optimist Shirley (Cindy Williams) ended up in the Army Reserves, and season 6 saw them move to Burbank and work as department store gift wrappers. By the final season, Shirley was gone, and Laverne was working in the aerospace industry.
As wild as the twists and turns of "Laverne & Shirley" were, the show had some constants across its eight seasons, including the presence of neighbors Lenny (Michael McKean) and Squiggy (David Lander), Laverne's dad Frank (Phil Foster), and Shirley's fame-hungry ex, Carmine (Eddie Mekka). Most of the actors who made "Laverne & Shirley...

It’s been forty years since the release of This Is Spinal Tap, so what have the legendary rockers been up to all this time? We’ll get our answers in Spinal Tap 2, but director Rob Reiner dropped a few hints about the lives of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) while speaking with Empire.
“Nigel has been running a cheese and guitar shop,” Reiner said. “David has been writing music for a true-crime podcast called ‘The Trouble With Murder’. And Derek is the curator of a museum of glue. He’s also written a symphony about the fact that the devil wears a bad hairpiece. It’s called ‘Hell Toupée’.” The director, who also reprises his role as filmmaker Martin “Marty” Di Bergi, added that there will be some great new songs, including Derek Smalls’ Rockin’ In the Urn, which is...

Back in 1984, Spinal Tap turned comedy up to 11. Rock-mock-doc This Is Spinal Tap is still hailed as one of the all-time-greats, spoofing heavy metal excess and dumb-as-rocks rockstar antics under the tutelage of legendary director Rob Reiner. It was a classic debut – and while the ‘difficult second album’ is tricky to overcome, it’s fair to say that all involved haven’t rushed into a follow-up. No, over 40 years later, the gang is returning – along with Reiner in the director’s chair – for Spinal Tap II, ready to let the world in on what the band have been up to for the last four decades.
While details of the sequel remain tightly under wraps, Reiner let slip to Empire some nuggets of what’s become of Spinal Tap’s members – Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) – in the meantime. “Nigel has been...

Though they play diametrically opposed cousins in the recently released film “A Real Pain,” Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg may be more like-minded in their sensibilities than people might think. Taking part in a live chat for Vanity Fair’s “Little Gold Men” podcast at Scad Savannah Film Festival, Culkin discussed his appreciation for Eisenberg’s directing style and how it made stepping behind the lens a more approachable possibility for him.
“Somebody asked recently if it made me feel like I want to direct, which I don’t. I don’t have that thing in me, but I get why the question is asked. That major twist in The Diplomat Season 2 finale doesn’t mean Grace Penn is a “bad guy.” At least not according to the TV show’s creator. The U.S. vice president, played by guest star Allison Janney, would have viewers thinking they too “would have made the same decision in that situation.”

Grace’s role in the attack on ‘The Diplomat’
Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), the U.S. ambassador to the U.K., finally got answers in The Diplomat Season 2. After the attack on a British ship in the series premiere that suddenly had her across the pond in a new job, she learned that Grace had been involved. Not just involved, but—gasp—she ordered the hit.
Grace explained herself in the finale. Her reasoning? Dominoes would’ve fallen leading to something even bigger. If the British people hadn’t come together in the wake of the national tragedy,...

His role is being kept under wraps, as has been the case with all supporting castings thus far.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of Netflix’s The Diplomat.]
There’s a new president at the end of season two of The Diplomat and Kate (Keri Russell) and Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) have just made a “very powerful enemy,” as the actors themselves tell The Hollywood Reporter.
In the closing seconds of the season two finale of the Netflix political thriller, Kate and viewers learn, as Hal relays to her over the phone, that President Rayburn (Michael McKean) got so upset when Hal told him that his vice president, Grace Penn (Allison Janney), was behind the attack on the British warship that kicked off the series that the president died.
As the vice president’s staff swarms onto the back lawn at the ambassador’s residence to protect the new commander-in-chief, the camera closes in on Penn.

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Diplomat” Season 2 finale.
Just as Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler was ready to sound the alarms bells for British corruption, the politician plotting in “The Diplomat” Season 2 took a sharp turn.
The Netflix series finds Kate and her team collecting incriminating evidence against British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) to prove that he was behind the attack on British aircraft carrier, the Hms Courageous. But their investigation takes a turn when Trowbridge’s former adviser, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie), tells Kate that Trowbridge was not involved in the attack, and that she hired Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov to stage an attack that would create outrage, not harm. As we know, it didn’t go to plan and resulted in the death of 40 Royal Navy personnel.

This Is Spinal Tap might just be the funniest mockumentary ever made, but no one said it was going to be easy. In fact, Michael McKean told People, “It was such a struggle to get it done.”
Part of the problem, McKean says, is that the comedy was breaking new ground. “There weren’t a lot of features like it at the time,” he noted. “What we had was 20 hours of film, and we got it down to 85 minutes. It was a long, long chore.”
Before it got to its final running time, there were several iterations as the film was whittled down from its initial 20 hours. A four-hour workprint has leaked online from time to time, revealing what amounts to the original times two and then some. Deciding what to remove must have been painful, especially for comic actors like Billy Crystal and Bruno Kirby whose best work ended up on the cutting-room floor.

Star Trek has some great horror episodes and this year on Halloween we've looked at some of the best, some of the more scary, and some that are just hard to sit through. This time, we're looking at more episodes that are hard to sit through, but for a different reason.
Horror, like all things in entertainment, is subjective. What may frighten you doesn't frighten others and vice versa. So some of the more haunting episodes may not do it for you and these are three that just didn't do it for me.
They may scare you but I found these three rather dull in that regard.
Voyager: The Thaw (2x23)
Star Trek: Voyager's "quintessential" horror episode in the eyes of many is The Thaw, the 23rd episode of season two. It sees Harry Kim and B'lanna Torres get stuck in a virtual reality world filled with computer programs that want to kill them.

The Diplomat season 2 is officially done filming, according to star Nana Mensah. And, there's even more good news!
Mensah told TV Line that filming wrapped in the UK. She also shared that season 2 should be released on Netflix later this year. Mensah also told TV Line that season 2 is “even better, more dynamic, more everything. The tensions have mounted in a way that is really propulsive and exciting.”
So, we don't know when production on The Diplomat season 2 actually wrapped, but it was still in production as late as this spring.

The Diplomat season 1 recap
Though The Diplomat is primarily a show about talking and strategizing, similar to The West Wing in many ways, it’s also entirely engrossing, and all of the performances are top-notch. The Diplomat season 2 finale is a game-changing episode for the series! I truly can’t believe everything that happened in this episode, and now, I can’t wait to see what creator Debora Cahn and the team have planned in The Diplomat season 3.
The Diplomat season 2 episode 6, “Dreadnought,” begins with Kate and Hal Wyler (Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell) discussing the big revelation at the end of episode 5. Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and the Americans are actually responsible for the attack on the Hms Courageous and for killing the Scottish independence movement.
Hal also reveals that the President doesn’t know what Grace did. Hal tries to slow down Kate. She wants to blow this up and make it a big deal, but Hal doesn’t want her to.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers from The Diplomat season 2 finale.
Throughout its short but mighty six-episode run, The Diplomat season 2 takes us on a wild ride that doesn't let up once. Until the very last second, we're on the edge of our seats as Kate navigates a series of seemingly impossible situations, weaving in and out of metaphorical minefields.
The new season picks up in the aftermath of the attack in the season 1 finale, which left Hal's life on the line, as well as Stuart's and Ronnie's. It's an emotionally wrought place to begin the season, especially with the consequent series of revelations that completely flip the script on Kate.
By the end of season 2, our jaws are left permanently on the ground, and there's no way to overhype the cliffhanger that completely eclipses that of the previous season. Between Allison Janney, an unexpected ending, and a wide-open door...

The U.S. has an aging male president who’s expected to pass the torch to his younger female vice president. But something happens that disrupts these plans, and the White House scrambles to find a solution that will allow them to build on their commander-in-chief’s legacy.
That’s the political landscape in the fictional Washington of Netflix’s The Diplomat, as viewers learn early in the first season of the political series starring Keri Russell that the show’s vice president, Grace Penn (played by Allison Janney in the show’s second season, dropping Thursday), has a scandal that, White House aides say, will force her to resign. The aides are also secretly vetting Russell’s career diplomat, Kate Wyler, newly installed as the American ambassador to the U.K., as Penn’s replacement.

“The Diplomat” Season 2 is the bastard lovechild of “The West Wing,” Armando Iannucci’s British political satires and his American “Veep.” Whip-smart, psychologically insightful and sexy without sleaze, the series created by Debora Cahn is only getting better as it speeds into its second lap on Netflix this Halloween. The streamer has already greenlit a third season, signaling an awareness of the show’s quality and that audiences are tuning in.

Michael Keaton, Paul Feig and David Letterman are among the Hollywood figures paying tribute to Teri Garr after she died on Tuesday at 79.
The Oscar-nominated actress was known for films like Tootsie and Young Frankenstein, among many others, before her career was derailed by multiple sclerosis, which she revealed she was diagnosed during an appearance on Larry King’s CNN show in October 2002. She appeared onscreen for the last time in 2011.
Garr died at home in Los Angeles, surrounded by family and friends,” her publicist, Heidi Schaffer, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Mel Brooks, who gave Garr her breakthrough role alongside Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein, paid tribute to the actress. “So very sorry to hear about Teri Garr’s passing,” he wrote on X. “She was so talented and so funny. Her humor and lively spirit made the Young Frankenstein set a pleasure to work on. Her ‘German’ accent had us all in stitches!

David Letterman is calling Teri Garr, who died Tuesday, one of his “all time favorite guests,” while Garr’s Mr. Mom costar Michael Keaton laments “a day I feared and knew was coming.” And Richard Dreyfuss, who costarred with Garr in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, remembers her as “vibrant, playful and so funny.”
The late, great Teri Garr, who brightened everything from sitcoms, variety shows, talk shows, some of the funniest movies ever made and even the occasional drama is being remembered by co-stars and colleagues today for the light she was.
“I adored Teri,” tweeted Dreyfuss. “She was vibrant, playful and so funny. Her essence created an ease in every scene we did together.

Adam Sandler is best known for his slapstick comedies that do little to satisfy critics, but has, nonetheless, turned it into a brand. The actor has also surprised fans with small detours into dramatic territory with films like Spaceman, Uncut Gems, and Punch-Drunk Love. However, he has managed to balance his brand of comedies.
One of his earliest roles as an SNL alum was the comedy Airheads. Starring along with Brendan Fraser and Steve Buscemi, Sandler was the main draw due to his time on SNL. He reportedly used this clout to make sure the director cast Fraser, though he was a relative unknown at the time and was only known for Encino Man.

“I’m Chevy Chase, and you’re not” was a cute catchphrase to launch Weekend Update on an unsuspecting nation, but it also turned out to be prophetic. While the fake news desk made stars of comedians like Dennis Miller and Norm Macdonald, it has also been anchored by performers who, for lack of a better term, are no Chevy Chase. And so, no one would blame you if you can’t remember a single joke from these five obscure Weekend Update anchors.

Charles Rocket was the main Weekend Update anchor for Season Six, but halfway through, the show introduced Matthius as his co-anchor. Why?
“We need a woman out there!” Matthius guessed with a shrug during a Vulture interview. “It wasn’t like I insisted.”

Keri Russell vs. Allison Janney? Yes, please.
On Tuesday, Netflix dropped the trailer for Season 2 of “The Diplomat,” which offers a first look at Janney’s new character, Vice President Grace Penn. Season 2 of the Netflix political thriller picks up after the explosive (literally) Season 1 cliff-hanger when a car bomb detonated in the middle of London. The trailer reveals that Kate and her husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), survived the blast — and the latter is, per Netflix, “very much involved” as Kate soon learns that the attack came from inside the British government.
Here is the official logline: “As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), very much alive, and very much involved. She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Janney).” Janney’s VP arrives...

To the joy of comedy fans, and the horror of families who were just looking for a nice cartoon about jazz-playing felines, the 2005 documentary The Aristocrats delved into the history of the notoriously filthy joke about a family pitching a vulgar stage show to a talent agent. While we all know the punchline — “The Aristocrats!” — it’s the uniquely grotesque nuances of each comedian’s version that makes the movie so interesting.
The Aristocrats featured interviews with some of the biggest names in comedy — from Chris Rock, to Sarah Silverman, to George Carlin. Also Carrot Top. But the most memorable version of the joke was probably the one told by the late Gilbert Gottfried. Note: The clip is not safe for work, unless you work in the talent agency from the joke.

Barbarian director Zach Cregger is set to team up with Sony for a remake of the 1985 classic mystery comedy Clue.
Here’s an interesting story that has emerged this morning regarding Zach Cregger, the director who bought us 2022’s Barbarian, a wild horror that became one of that year’s most talked-about films. The success of Barbarian was enough to earn Cregger a handsome deal with New Line Cinema for whom he will be directing his follow-up film, Weapons.

Even fictional bands are banning the Trump campaign from using their music.
After Isaac Hayes’ estate successfully barred Trump from using “Hold On, I’m Coming,” the cinematic heavy metal act Spinal Tap have preemptively demanded that the campaign not play their song “Sex Farm.”
Harry Shearer, who portrays Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls, declared the song off-limits in a hilarious tweet: “Not a band to be outdone, Spinal Tap is demanding that the Trump campaign refrain from playing ‘Sex Farm’ at their rallies.”
“Sex Farm” is an ’80s hard rock pastiche with lyrics that parody the objectification of women that was centric to that decade’s rock/metal culture. While it’s obviously not a song any political campaign would actually play, the joke is that it’s a pretty apt depiction of Donald Trump’s history of sexual misconduct and misogyny: “Sex farm woman / I’m gonna mow...

After being in the business for almost 60 years, it appears Rob Reiner shows no sign of slowing down. Last year saw him debut his first ever documentary (at least his first real documentary), “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life,” and he’s currently finishing up production in New Orleans on a “This Is Spinal Tap” sequel. In a recent interview with Deadline, Reiner discussed his shock over the documentary’s Emmy nominations, as well as the status of the follow-up to his feature directorial debut and cult classic.
“It’s a total surprise,” Reiner said of receiving Emmy nominations for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, as well as his direction of the film. “Especially because I’ve never made a real documentary. The only one I made was a fake one — ‘Spinal Tap.’ It’s so funny to get recognized in this way.”

One of Rob Reiner’s greatest filmmaking credits is the classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. But he became the maker of an actual documentary – not a faux one – with Albert Brooks: Defending My Life. This morning (while working on the sequel to Spinal Tap in New Orleans) he learned he’s become an Emmy nominee for the HBO film about his lifelong buddy, Brooks.
“It’s a total surprise,” he said of the Emmy recognition for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and for his direction of the film. “Especially because I’ve never made a real documentary. The only one I made was a fake one – Spinal Tap. It’s so funny to get recognized in this way.”

Add Beck Bennett to the list of Saturday Night Live stars populating superhero movies. James Gunn recently announced that Bennett would appear in his new Superman film as Steve Lombard, a loudmouthed sportswriter who lives to torment Clark Kent.
Bennett is just the latest SNL star to find his way into the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, too. Here are other SNL vets who suited up for super action…
1 Robert Downey Jr.
The undisputed king of this list, Downey spent a tortured year as an SNL cast member when he was only 21. “I learned so much in that year about what I wasn’t,” he told the Off-Camera Show’s Sam Jones. “I was not somebody who was going to do impressions. I was somebody who was very ill-suited for rapid-fire sketch comedy.”

Earlier this week, on July 1st, America’s hat celebrated Canada Day, which is basically just like America’s Independence Day, except if they ever make a disaster movie called Canada Day, it will probably end with the army politely asking the invading aliens if they wouldn’t mind leaving whenever it suits them best. No rush.
To mark the occasion, Simpsons voice actor and Spinal Tap bassist Harry Shearer took to social media to remind us all of the time that the fictitious heavy metal band played three massive concerts, in three Canadian cities, all in one day: July 1, 1992. He noted in the comments that they didn’t even lose a single drummer on the hurried tour.
To celebrate Canada’s 125th birthday, a massive all-concert event was planned, featuring three outdoor stages spread all across the country. Dubbed “The Great Canadian Party” the whole thing was televised on Canada’s MTV equivalent MuchMusic,...

“Elsbeth” brought back Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni after she originated the character in both “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight.” The CBS spin-off show follows the titular Elsbeth, an unconventional attorney who works with the NYPD to catch criminals.
But “Elsbeth” doesn’t just return Preston to one of her most treasured roles, it could also return Jesse Tyler Ferguson to the Emmys. Ferguson has a healthy Emmys history behind him (more on that later) but he has been absent at the TV awards for some time now. His guest role in “Elsbeth” could change that, however. Ferguson plays Skip Mason, an Andy Cohen-like producer behind a reality TV show titled “Lavish Ladies.” Ferguson clearly has a ball every time he’s on-screen and, as a result, we have a ball watching him, too, as noted by critics.
