CBS has renewed its hit drama The Equalizer, starring Queen Latifah, for Seasons 3 and 4, beginning with the 2022-2023 broadcast season, the network announced Thursday.
The two-season renewal reflects the strength of The Equalizer‘s ratings performance — it is Sunday’s #1 scripted series, averaging 9.46 million viewers. Season to date, the show has amassed 1.2 billion potential social media impressions, according to CBS. In anticipation of a pickup, The Equalizer recently set new showrunners, Joseph C. Wilson and Adam Glass, who will succeed at the helm the series’ developers, Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller.
Additional renewals are expected in the coming days. As Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva previously reported CBS’ top scripted series, FBI, as well as spinoffs Most Wanted and International are in renewal negotiations with lead studio Universal Television and fully expected to continue, also possibly with multi-year renewals. Fellow Uni TV co-produced Magnum P.I. also has a chance to return.

There has been a shake-up behind the scenes at the CBS crime drama The Equalizer as the series’ creators, Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, have stepped down as showrunners. As first reported by Deadline, Joseph C. Wilson, who has been with the show since Season 1, and Adam Glass (The Chi) have been named new showrunners for the third season. While CBS has yet to officially renew the series, the hiring of new showrunners is a positive sign for the Queen Latifah-starring drama. “We are incredibly proud of the work we did to bring The Equalizer to audiences,” Marlowe and Miller told Deadline. “It’s been an honor and privilege to work with one of the most talented casts and crews in the business. Now, in the spirit of The Equalizer, it’s time to raise up other important voices who we know will carry on the heart and soul of this show.

Exclusive: Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, who created the CBS series The Equalizer based on the 1980s show, are stepping down as showrunners of the hit drama starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah after two seasons. Joseph C. Wilson, who has been on the show since the first season, and Adam Glass (The Chi) have been named new showrunners for Season 3.
CBS is yet to renew any of its Universal Television-co-produced series, The Equalizer, the three FBI dramas and Magnum Pi. All look good to continue, with the highly-rated FBIs and The Equalizer considered a slam dunk. The hire of new showrunners further solidifies The Equalizer‘s outlook as networks and studios usually go through the process when a renewal is expected.

Girls Trip alums Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah will reunite in an upcoming episode of CBS’ The Equalizer.
Smith will guest star as Jessie Cook, a savant-level thief with a photographic memory. Though she’s brilliant and the best at what she does, she’s also devious, unpredictable and amoral. Briefly recruited by the CIA for her skills, Jessie and McCall once worked a mission together back in the day, and though the two get along like oil and water, they’re a whole lot of fun to watch.
The casting marks a reunion for Smith and The Equalizer‘s Queen Latifah, who both starred in the 2017 film Girls Trip. The two also appeared together in Set It Off, and Latifah co-starred in The Secret Life of Bees, which Pinkett Smith exec produced.

The trouble began when Aunt Vi and Delilah (played by Lorraine Toussaint and Laya DeLeon Hayes) decided to do some light shopping at a neighborhood boutique before going to see a movie. Rachel Bilson's return to the small screen will be a short-lived one.
ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Take Two, a summer procedural drama from Castle Executive Producers Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller.
Take Two launched in June to a mere 3.4 million total viewers and an even worse 0.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demo. Take Two Season 1 ultimately averaged 2.7 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating.
It did get a boost with DVR factored in, but not substantial enough to keep it around for more episodes. What could have kept it around was the fact that it was a co-production.

ABC will not be picking up additional episodes of crime dramedy “Take Two,” Variety has confirmed. The show, which starred Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian, premiered in June and concluded its 13-episode first season in September.
“Take Two” came from “Castle” creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, and received a straight-to-series order at ABC last November. The series paired up Bilson’s Sam Swift, a former star of a hit cop series, with Cibrian’s Eddie Valetik, a private investigator. Sam turned to Eddie to research a potential comeback role after a stint at rehab, and Eddie realized the disgraced actress’ skills and experience may serve as a valuable asset.

There will be no second take for ABC’s summer procedural drama series Take Two, Deadline has learned. News of the cancellation comes two months after Take Two wrapped its 13-episode first-season run.

The Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian-led drama “Take Two” has been canceled by ABC after one season, an individual with knowledge of the decision tells TheWrap.
The procedural, from “Castle” creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, wrapped its 13-episode run in September, after premiering as a summer series in June. The show received a straight-to-series order at ABC last November.
Here’s the official description for the series: An entertaining private investigator procedural with a unique balance of comedy and drama. Sam Swift (Bilson), the former star of a hit cop series is fresh-out-of-rehab following a bender of epic proportions. Desperate to restart her career, she talks her way into shadowing rough-and-tumble private investigator Eddie Valetik (Cibrian) as research for a potential comeback role. Though lone wolf Eddie resents the babysitting gig, high-spirited Sam proves herself to be surprisingly valuable, drawing on her acting skills and 200 episodes of playing a detective.

It’s a wrap for Take Two. ABC has cancelled the summer procedural from Castle EPs Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller after one low-rated summer season, TVLine has learned.
The series — which starred Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian — premiered last June to 3.4 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating. It wrapped its 13-episode run in September with the same demo rating but fewer overall eyeballs (2.9 million).
TVLine has learned that Marlowe and Miller have already begun shopping the show around (with several suitors said to be expressing interest).

However, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the show starring Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian could continue on as a pair of streaming outlets are kicking the tires on the series about a disgraced actress who shadows a private investigator.

A happy Castle “reunion” is poised to take a dark turn in this Thursday’s episode of ABC’s Take Two (which now leads off the night, at 8/7c).
In the summertime procedural — which was co-created by Castle executive producers Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Take Two‘s Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian will be on the case two hours earlier: Starting with next Thursday’s episode, the ABC detective procedural will air at 8/7c.
The series — from Castle executive producers Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller — stars Cibrian as a lone-wolf private investigator who partners up with a fresh-out-of-rehab actress (Bilson).
Next week’s installment features a mini Castle reunion, with guest star Seamus Dever (aka Castle detective Kevin Ryan) as a distraught husband and father who turns to the P.I. duo to help stop a hitman from fulfilling a contract.

Viewing ABC’s Take Two premiere made me smile. It looks like the network may have another hit on their hands. How can I say that? Because most people thought that Castle, the first show created by Take Two creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller was doomed to fail. The premiere of Castle has 52 percent score on Metacritic. It ran for eight seasons. More importantly, the very things that Castle got slammed for are what its viewers found enduring. Here’s the best-written one that got it wrong. It’s from the Washington Post Wildly famous mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion)

ABC’s new detective procedural Take Two, starring Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie) and Eddie Cibrian (CSI: Miami), could have just as easily been titled Castle: Take Two— which makes sense, since the lighthearted series hails from Andrew W. Are locations to TV shows what costumes are to characters? After watching ABC’s Take Two trailer I think they might be. If you a little about British acting they are generalized as creating a character from the outside in. That means that it’s the costuming that helps give them the feel of who the character is. When viewing the Take Two trailer it’s striking how different this show is from Castle. The contrast all seems to come out of the show’s L.A. setting. Granted, there certainly are elements of Castle, the first television show created by Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, in Take Two. It’s

Summertime television tends to have a lot of two things: reality shows and heavy duty drama. ABC’s first promo for Take Two suggests they’ve noticed a huge hole in the lineups. For those looking for light drama and wry repartee, Take Two is definitely the new show to check out! It’s from the creators of ABC’s Castle – Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller (aka “MilMar”). Their love of 1940’s screwball comedies colored Castle, and with just a 3o second promo you can see that love is in full effect. The First Promo for Take Two Don’t you love the beach scenes

In what was a pleasant surprise Deadline announced that ABC’s Take Two will be starting this summer! This is the new show from Castle creators and executive producers Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller. They are the off-screen duo responsible for creating that “love story wrapped in a procedural” that starred actors Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic as writer Richard Castle and Detective Kate Beckett. Fans of Castle often refer to the duo as “MilMar” – which is also the name of their production company. Together and separately MilMar penned some of the show’s highest-rated episodes. The most iconic of those is the season four finale, “Always,”
