Major broadcast and cable news networks released a joint statement on Sunday urging the “presumptive presidential nominees” to commit to general election debates.
The Commission on Presidential Debates has already announced dates, times and eligibility criteria for debates in 2024. Ryan Gosling visited “The Tonight Show” ahead of his latest hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live” and spoke about his internet-breaking live performance of “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars last month. Asked by host Jimmy Fallon if it was an immediate yes when the Academy called him up to request he perform the “Barbie” original song live during the ceremony, Gosling said his answer was “100% no.”
“There’s a lot of ways that could go wrong,” Gosling said.
But the performance went very right. Gosling, bathed in pink lighting and wearing a sparkling pink suit and pink gloves, started singing “I’m Just Ken” while in the audience sitting behind Margot Robbie. He then made his way to the stage, where he was joined by Mark Ronson and Slash on guitars. His fellow Ken actors Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir joined the armada of backup dancers behind Gosling.

Update (04/12/2024): It’s official: Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and Chris Sullivan have launched a This Is Us rewatch podcast, titled This Was Us, the show’s stars announced on the Instagram page that led to speculation that that was what they had planned. It begins on May 14. “We are So excited to finally announce that we (big) three are taking back Tuesdays and bringing #ThisIsUsback,” the three wrote in the Instagram caption. “The Pearson’s story may have ended after six seasons, but our stories continue on. For six seasons and 106 episodes, Tuesdays brought us together with tissues in one hand and pantry wine in the other. Why? Because we see ourselves in the fabric of their lives. We may or may not have cried at least once every episode, but let’s just say our tears served as emotional catharsis…” The statement continues, “Sibling rivalry, body issues,...

The intervention that took place in this week’s Law & Order: Organized Crime went even worse than the one that took place in the show’s first season… which is really saying something.
As the episode’s synopsis teased, Elliot and Randall confronted their younger brother, Joe Jr., about his heroin use (and possible selling) during a tense conversation during this week’s hour. In the lead-up, El shared with Randall that he suspected Joe’s drug use began in Afghanistan. And when they broke into Joe’s place, they found needles, drugs and rolls of cash. “We’ve...

“Abbott Elementary” received the same three supporting acting Emmy nominations across its first two seasons: Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph for supporting actress and Tyler James Williams for supporting actor. The comedy is likely to pick up those three bids again for its third season this year, but will it score any beyond that? Also eligible are Lisa Ann Walter in supporting actress (eighth place in our combined odds), as well as Chris Perfetti (10th place) and William Stanford Davis (21st place) in supporting actor — and their categories may be open enough for them finally to break in.
Walter, Perfetti and Davis missing for Season 1 is not at all surprising. A word-of-mouth hit, “Abbott” already exceeded expectations with seven nominations in total, including for series, actress (Quinta Brunson), writing and casting. While our odds correctly forecasted the inclusions of Brunson, James and Ralph, they had Williams sitting all the...

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss the top-heavy Best Comedy Actress category.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’re back to type about comedy — and not the comedy of seeing Tom Ripley try to dodge a runaway motorboat. I’m typing about real comedy… like “The Bear.” Well, Ok, maybe not just “The Bear” since that’s all but assured of winning multiple Emmy Awards in September in a rerun of the 2023 (’24) Emmys we just saw in January. But let’s start there because while we agree with the consensus that the series, Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach should all repeat as Emmy winners this year, we’re both against the current tide in the Best Comedy Actress race. After two weeks of being on “The Masked Singer” chopping block, Sisqó is finally gone-guh-gone-gone-gone.

That’s right, “Thong Song” superstar Sisqó on Wednesday became the latest celebrity to be unmasked on “The Masked Singer,” revealed to be the Lizard.
For Sisqó as the Lizard, several of the panelists had figured it out. Robin Thicke and Rita Ora knew it was Sisqó. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg picked Ray J. Ken Jeong said it was Michael Bivins.
Lizard was voted out after being one of the two lowest vote-getters in the two previous episodes.

Selena Gomez has seen her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars and guest stars get nominated for and win Emmys the past two years while she sat on the sidelines. Will the third time finally be the charm? She’s currently in fifth place in the Best Comedy Actress odds. It's a testament to Disney's branding that mainstream audiences don't necessarily know who directed or starred in some of their better-known movies. Although many have seen the studio's 1950 animated feature "Cinderella," most audiences wouldn't be able to tell you that Ilene Woods played the title character, or that Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, and Clyde Geronimi directed the film. Disney's "Aladdin" changed that with the casting of Robin Williams as the Genie. And the trend of hiring known screen celebrities, often not voice actors, to sell an animated feature to a broad audience went to a whole other level in the wake of DreamWorks' "Shrek." The advent of the internet also helped certain actresses become known among Disney fans. Nowadays, many adults know the names of the actresses who played characters like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, or Ariel the Mermaid.

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony took place on March 10, 2024, and was a star-studded affair. While most of the focus was on all the talented artists nominated in various categories, by the time the night concluded, it was clear that Ryan Gosling had once again proven to be the show stealer after doing so in 2023’s Barbie.

All Ryan Gosling needed was a 40-piece orchestra, 62 dancing Kens, over 24 gigantic Barbie heads, four “cameo Kens” and a Guns N’Roses surprise to turn his highly anticipated performance of “Barbie” track “I’m Just Ken” into one of the most unbelievable moments in award show history.
After all the protracted speculation about whether Gosling would perform “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars, the news broke in late February that he had been confirmed for a song and dance extravaganza. But in fact, Oscars producers had been talking to Gosling for months.
“Ryan Gosling is a true professional, that man — we met with him on Zooms months ago, talking about that performance,” said Molly McNearney, who produced the show with Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan and Rob Paine. “Greta Gerwig weighed in creatively as well. He was so committed to it. His choreographer, Mandy Moore, is exceptional — she was on all the calls.

Though she had a ticket to sit in the audience at the Oscars, choreographer Mandy Moore, who helmed Sunday’s show-stealing “I’m Just Ken” number, couldn’t help but stand in the wings and give all the Kens a pep talk before they headed onstage.

The performance saw Barbie movie star and Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling, in a bright pink bedazzled suit and cowboy hat, lead an army of 62 Kens, as well as his fellow Barbie movie Kens — Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Scott Evans — in an all-out dance number that paid homage to Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, included “street-style dancing,” filled the stage with Barbie cardboard cut-outs and ended in a Rockettes-style kickline.

This Is Us ended its NBC run in 2022, but the series continues to capture the hearts of new viewers and those who faithfully watched over six seasons. In January 2024, three of the drama’s stars quietly formed a new Instagram account titled “This Was Us.” A new post teases, “There’s a new big three in town,” and fans of the series are freaking out.
Who are Instagram’s new Big Three?
Beginning on Jan. 16, 2024, This Is Us star Mandy Moore quietly dropped a post about motherhood on a newly created Instagram account titled This Was Us. However, that same day, Sterling K. Brown posted about his late father, and Chris Sullivan discussed his mental health journey.
Two days later, the account’s followers were treated to a slideshow of scenes taken over six seasons of This Is Us. The photographs featured every star who appeared on the NBC drama.

If there’s a funny show on TV, it’s a pretty good bet that Richard Kind has appeared on it.
The veteran actor has logged memorable guest appearances on dozens of TV comedies over the years, along with regular stints on Mad About You and Spin City, among others. So it’s no surprise that Kind pops up on this Tuesday’s Night Court (NBC, 8/7c) as unscrupulous Broadway producer Sy, who lands in court after getting caught selling fake theater memorabilia. So did Kind base this character on any Broadway producers he may have worked with?

Do all the touchdown dances you want, but know that there’s at least person — aside from, uh, the San Francisco 49ers — for whom Super Bowl Sunday carries the acrid tang of dreams gone up in smoke.
On her Instagram Story Sunday night, Mandy Moore made a joke that referenced a pivotal episode of her NBC series This Is Us. The account Midwest vs. Everybody posted a photo of eight slow cookers, deeming the appliance “The real Mvp of Super Bowl Sunday.” Underneath, Moore — who played mama Rebecca on the show — added: “Not in the Pearson household.”

Emerald Fennell is sharing one of her favorite “complicated” sexy onscreen relationships ever, and it’s none other than the dark, obsessive dynamic found in Martin Scorsese’s “Cape Fear.” During Turner Classic Movie’s “Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast,” hosted by Ben Mankiewicz, “Saltburn” filmmaker Fennell revealed her twisted love for Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis’ onscreen relationship in Scorsese’s 1991 film.
While Fennell noted that the 1962 original starring Robert Mitchum is her preferred iteration of the story (both films were adaptations of 1957 book “The Executioners” by John D. Macdonald), she cited the scene in Scorsese’s feature in which De Niro’s character stalks Lewis at her high school as a favorite.
“I was obsessed with the remake, because the scene where Robert De Niro comes to the high school to seduce Juliette Lewis, it’s one of the sexiest things I’ve ever seen, which is very complicated,...

An investigative journalist falls for her subject: A handsome, world-renowned surgeon.
That logline could be the start of a rom-com. Instead, it’s the beginning of a sinister story, one that’s told on Dr. Death.
The second season of the Peacock anthology based on the Wondery podcast brings to screen the true-crime story of Paolo Macchiarini (played by Édgar Ramírez), the pioneering Italian surgeon whose revolutionary biosynthetic tracheas could be a medical solution to the traditional trachea transplant. His work is so impressive, he becomes the subject of a TV profile from New York journalist, and former NBC producer, Benita Alexander (Mandy Moore), who — spoiler alert — ends up contributing to a much more important Vanity Fair article that ultimately unmasks the real Paolo Macchiarini.

Edgar Ramirez takes on his second true-crime drama in Dr. Death Season 2, available now on Peacock. In Dr. Death, he plays “Miracle Man” Dr. Paolo Macchiarini (pictured above), a charming thoracic surgeon renowned for his innovative procedures. When investigative journalist Benita Alexander (Mandy Moore) approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question. The season is based on the Miracle Man season of Wondery’s Dr. Death true-crime podcast. Before the Peacock drama, Ramirez played fashion icon Gianni Versace in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. The story of Peacock’s Dr. Death in its second season is really two stories, which intersect through duplicitous surgeon Paolo Macchiarini (Edgar Ramírez).
In one, a respected journalist (Mandy Moore’s Benita) falls in love with a con man, and then eventually retakes control of her life by taking him down. In the other, doctors grow suspicious of, and then work to stop, a celebrated colleague whose supposedly miraculous procedures are actually killing his patients.
Late in the season, a skeptical reporter tells Benita that the former narrative is the more interesting one, since it’s simpler, juicier, more relatable.
