Only four episodes remain in the first season of MobLand, but Tom Hardy’s new crime thriller series just added another accomplishment to its belt. Earlier this week, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series, 1923, returned to Paramount+ streaming charts more than a month after its Season 2 finale. Hardy’s MobLand, which also stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, has since claimed its spot in Paramount+’s top 10, now leaving 1923 to fade into the void after concluding its final season. MobLand was written and created for television by Ronan Bennett and Jez Butterworth, with Guy Ritchie serving as the primary director of the series. The show has earned average scores of 76% from critics and 77% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also stars Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, and Anson Boon.

Tom Hardy is currently starring in the new hit crime drama MobLand. But 13 years ago, he was competing with Chris Pine for the love of Reese Witherspoon in This Means War, which, along with the extended edition, will debut on Max on May 1.

Billed as a romantic spy comedy, 2012's This Means War follows two CIA agents, Tuck Hansen (Hardy) and Franklin "Fdr" Foster (Pine) who are also best friends. But their relationship hits a bump in the road when the pair find out they are dating the same woman, Lauren (Witherspoon). The movie was directed by McGand written by Timothy Dowling (Pixels), Simon Kinberg, and Marcus Gautesen.

Upon its release, This Means War earned approximately $156.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $65 million, making it a modest box office success. Despite its financial performance, the film was met with largely negative reviews, receiving a 25% critic score and a 56% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nathan Fillion’s Firefly broke many hearts when its cancellation was announced. The cast of the Fox series still had a week of filming left to get through, and it wasn’t easy for them to pretend that everything was okay. Amazon is rebooting the Masters of the Universe with an upcoming live-action movie. The film, which stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, has added two new cast members.

Per Deadline, Masters of the Universe added Morena Baccarin and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson to the cast. Baccarin is known for her role as Vanessa in the Deadpool franchise, while Jóhannesson played Olaf Haraldsson in Vikings, as well as Oskar Gudjohnsen in Succession. Arlan Ruf, a promising, up-and-coming young actor, will co-star opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the HBO limited series “Dtf St. Louis,” Variety has learned.

The seven-episode show comes from creator and showrunner Steven Conrad. HBO describes “Dtf St. Louis” as a dark comedy about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise — an entanglement that leads to one of them ending up dead.

Bateman has been busy since ending his run on Netflix’s crime series “Ozark.” He co-starred in the streamer’s suspense hit, “Carry On” and is working on its new limited series “Black Rabbit.” Harbour is finishing up “Stranger Things.” He will co-star in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*,” which opens in May.

The big budget live-action Masters of the Universe movie from Amazon MGM Studios, has now found its main villain, as Jared Lateo is cast in the role of Skeletor.

According to THR, Jared Leto, known for his roles in films like Morbius and Suicide Squad, has officially been cast as Skeletor, the iconic antagonist to He-Man, in the upcoming film. Additionally, several other notable characters, such as Trap Jaw, Goat Man, and Tri-Klops, have also been officially cast. Leto is joined by the previously announced Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s second-in-command. According to a new report, the 47-year-old musician is now the co-owner of Jim Henson Studio, a historic studio lot that was once owned by Jim Henson, the creator of The Muppets.

TMZ broke the report about the purchase, revealing that John entered the deal alongside producer/director McG.

They are said to have paid $45 million for the property. However, initial reports estimated that the deal could be worth as much as $60 million.

According to a spokesperson for Mayer, the singer and filmmaker are “under contract to buy Henson Studios” after the Church of Scientology had been rumored to be circling the property.

Though that report was never confirmed, THR has learned that a father-son duo with strong ties to Scientology had a hold on the land before Mayer. Run by Steve and Shaun Fabos, Fab Factory Studios had plans to lock in a deal.

Steve Fabos is reportedly a major Scientology donor, while Shuan notably testified during Danny Masterson’s rape trial and was deemed a hostile witness after changing his testimony to support the disgraced actor.

John Mayer is set to purchase the storied Hollywood lot established by Charlie Chaplin and later owned by A&m Records and the Jim Henson Company, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

A rep for Mayer — who has an office on the lot — confirmed that the musician, along with director and producer McG, is “under contract to buy Henson Studios.” An exact price tag was not divulged, but the deal is believed to be worth around $60 million.

“John Mayer and McG are under contract to buy Henson Studios,” a spokesperson for Mayer told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.

It’s a dramatic reversal from the fate the property seemed destined to face. In recent weeks, the storied property — formerly A&m Studios and earlier Charlie Chaplin Studios — had been the subject of speculation that the Church of Scientology, already a major landlord in the area, was closing in on a bid.

The historic Jim Henson Company lot, which started life as Charlie Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles, has found a new buyer: John Mayer.

Yes, the singer-songwriter behind “Daughters” and “Waiting on the World to Change” has partnered with filmmaker McG to purchase the sprawling lot, located in the heart of Hollywood at 1416 N. La Brea Ave. The contract is in final negotiations as of Monday night, TheWrap has learned.

Mayer recorded his excellent 2021 album “Sob Rock” at Henson Recording Studios, part of the same lot, and filmed a performance video for “Last Train Home” (from the “Sob Rock”) album there.

McG is best known for directing the “Charlie’s Angels” movies starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore, along with “Terminator Salvation,” “We Are Marshall” and this year’s Netflix YA epic, “Uglies.”

Earlier this year, TheWrap exclusively reported that the lot was up for sale.

A rep for Jim Henson company declined to comment. A rep for Mayer told Deadline’s Dish — this is happening. Deadline reached out to a rep for McG. We’ll update you when we hear back from them.
