The Film
With Cynthia Rothrock having only done Yes Madam, and Michelle Khan [Yeoh] departing the loose franchise following Royal Warriors, this third entry (the title of which also translates as Royal Madam III: Male and Female Thieves) had to turn to new talent. Billing then 20 year-old Taiwanese actress Yang Li-tsing as Cynthia Khan was a cynical move on par with introducing a new action star to US movies today, and giving her the screen name Kate Theron. Like the alternate title fusing those of the two previous films, it’s not something that screams of inspiration, but like Cynthia Khan herself, this film is a dark horse that deserves more credit, and to be looked at on its own terms rather than based on what its name is ripping off.
The story, as ever, is largely a framework to hang the action on, but this time it sees Khan as...

Eureka Entertainment have announced the UK release of In The Line of Duty III and In The Line of Duty IV, the third and fourth instalments in the action film series. Both titles will be presented in individual releases as part of the Eureka Classics range in their UK debuts on Blu-ray. Available from 20 March 2023, the first print-run of 2000 copies of each title will feature a Limited-Edition O-card Slipcase and Collector’s Booklet.
Often overshadowed by other films in the series, In the Line of Duty III is the hidden gem of the franchise, featuring shockingly brutal and ferocious action sequences. Cynthia Khan stars in her first leading role as a young police officer who goes up against a dangerous duo of Japanese terrorists. After staging an outrageous jewellery heist in Tokyo, two thieves (Stuart Ong and Michiko Nishiwaki) travel to Hong Kong to trade their stolen goods. When things don’t go to plan,...

Back in the distant days of VHS (showing my age here) over in the UK, there was a video label “Made in Hong Kong”. As I began to watch Hong Kong movies, I would await the next release with true fan boy excitement. The promo trailer reel that would open the release would invariably start with one I’m about to review and as soon as the theme hits, you immediately just want to watch it. So, does it hold up now over 30 years after its original release or has its charm faded into the midst of time?

Following the great success of “Winners and Sinners”, Sammo Hung could not but use the same recipe of comedy and action once more, with “My Lucky Stars” featuring an even more impressive cast than its predecessor, since John Shum gave his place to Eric Tsang, which allowed Sammo Hung to give him his former role as the bullied one. Furthermore, Yuen Biao and Jackie Chan had more significant roles, although they were not the protagonists once more, while the villains include Dick Wei, Bolo Yeung, Lam Ching-ying (who was also action coordinator along Sammo Hung once more), and the body builder/martial artist/stuntwoman Michiko Nishiwaki, in probably the most impressive presence in the film. Lastly, the main female role was held by Sibelle Hu instead of Cherie Chung, a substitution that also aimed to add to the action aspect of the movie, although comedy remained the main element of the narrative.

Quite possibly the best looking and most hysterical film of 2012, “Helter Skelter” marked the return of Japanese director and former fashion photographer Ninagawa Mika some 5 years after her colourful debut “Sakuran”. Based on a manga by Okazaki Kyoko, the film also saw the return of controversial and gorgeous actress Sawajiri Erika (“Shinobi”) in an over the top and frequently insane look at the Japanese entertainment industry, packing in madness, sex and black market plastic surgery. Sawajiri headlines as LiLiCo, the country’s top model and all-round media darling, famed for her amazing beauty and elegance. Unsurprisingly, behind her flawless image lurks darkness, and LiLiCo is in fact a vain, cruel woman who uses and treats everyone in her life terribly, in particular her manager Michiko (Terashima Shinobu, “Caterpillar”). However, she herself is suffering behind her smile, being moulded and manipulated by her talent agency boss and mother figure Hiroko (Mamoi Kaori,...

Lam Ching Ying is my favorite star in any Horror movie, weather it be taking on hopping vampires or just plain old spirits, no one does it better than lam.
His roles in the Mr.Vampire movies show his skills as an actor, with great comic timing which goes well with his serious acting side, which we dont normally get to see on screen. This role would make him, not just a big star in Asia but also worldwide as the master of Vampire killers.
I hope you enjoy my top 10 list and please feel free to write your own favorites in the comments box at the bottom of the page.

Other great movies which he starred in (But not in a vampire movie) were the likes of The Prodigal Son, School On Fire, Eastern Condors, The Magnificent Butcher and Painted Faces.
I have been a big fan of these movies since i first watched Mr.
