"When you're born to kill, you have to have an empty mind." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a Brazilian western titled O Matador, telling the story of Cabeleira, a feared killer living in the countryside of Pernambuco State in the 1840's. Diogo Morgado stars as Cabeleira, a gunman who goes looking for his missing mentor but ends up working for a ruthless French land baron as a hired assassin. The cast includes Maria de Medeiros, Will Roberts, Etienne Chicot, Phil Miler, Marat Descartes, Mel Lisboa, and Paulo Gorgulho. The trailer has another English title, simply just The Killer, but I like O Matador better. This definitely seems like a gritty western, with plenty of violence and slick cinematography. Watch below. Here's the official trailer for Marcelo Galvão's O Matador, direct from Netflix's YouTube: In a lawless land, Shaggy (Diogo Morgado), investigates the whereabouts of the bandit, Seven...

Will Forte’s pleas have paid off: “The Last Man on Earth” will return for a fourth season. Also back next year on Fox: “Gotham.”
The pickups wrapped up a wild day of pickups and cancellations at the networks. Among the shows still awaiting their fate at Fox: “24: Legacy,” “Apb,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Making History,” “New Girl,” “Prison Break,” “Scream Queens,” “Shots Fired,” and “Son of Zorn.”

Early Sunday afternoon, Will Forte made one last plea to his fans — and the internet at large — to catch up on “The Last Man on Earth” before it’s too late.
Tonight! 9pm! The 1 hour season (series?) finale of The Last Man on Earth. Why’d I include this vid? Some kind of hint?Plz spread word, Yft pic.twitter.com/KtqHq1exND
— Will Forte (@OrvilleIV) May 7, 2017
The video was as goofy, unpredictable, and ebullient as the series itself. It wasn’t as funny, but that’s because the efforts put into every facet of “Last Man” can’t possibly be duplicated by just two people and a cameraman. It’s a group effort, brought to beautiful fruition from each member of the cast, writers’ room, and production staff. Unfiltered joy can be felt emanating from the screen from the sets alone, making the aesthetics as enjoyable as the last minute twists.

This month, FX aired something insane and magic and impossible to describe. It came courtesy of a show you are likely not watching – unless you’re a diehard fan of Denis Leary and/or single-camera comedies about rock music. It stars an artist whose contributions to film, television and theater are prolific and vast, who performs an homage to Broadway’s most game-changing musical of the last several decades.

Duck Dynasty: The Musical is officially theater-bound! Considering Broadway is pretty gay -- or at least, gay-friendly -- and considering what duck patriarch Phil Robertson has said in the past about homosexuality leading to bestiality, it may seem like an odd fit.
Until you find out it’s actually a Vegas musical. That makes more sense.
The Duck Commander Musical is a “modern-day Beverly Hillbillies story” about a “backwoods family” that strikes it rich. Don’t expect a satire or tell-all either, the Roberston family had script and casting approval.
Watch: Which Duck Dynasty star wants to be on Dancing With the Stars?!
Producer Michael David, whose credits include Jersey Boys, told The New York Times, “The show will end up challenging the views and assumptions of people across the political spectrum, more than most theater does.”
It’s being staged by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Newsies) and is based on Willie and Korie Robertson’s 2012 book...

Unabashedly earnest, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." offers the same unassuming charm of its most valuable asset, the still-beating heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson. Paired with Ming-Na Wen's steely, enigmatic Melinda May, the affable, competent Coulson leads an oddball crew of operatives weaving around the footfalls of giants. Coulson knows the way, but the transition of Marvel Studios from the big screen to network television isn't without its turbulence.

"The Hangover Part III" isn't like "The Hangover" or "The Hangover Part II" because it doesn't actually include any hangovers. While the first two films in the $1 billion franchise retraced the events of one crazy night in the lives of the Wolfpack (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis), "The Hangover Part III" finds the three heroes using their wiles to find Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong), master criminal and mad man.
Why does the structure of "The Hangover Part III" differ from the previous films? Because of "The Hangover Part II," which was savaged by critics as a pale imitation of "The Hangover."
"[We were] very conscious of [that]," Cooper, who plays Phil in the series, told HuffPost Entertainment. "Just as conscious as we were the second time of adhering to the structure. I think that maybe, in retrospect, people say that ['Part II' didn't work], but if you had deviated from this formula the second movie,...

There's a montage in "The Hangover Part III" -- a retrospective, if you will -- of the Wolfpack "through the years." While watching images from all three "Hangover" movies flash across the screen, it's hard not to think about Bradley Cooper's own journey since the first film debuted in 2009. In four short years, Cooper has transformed himself from wiseacre Phil Wenneck to an Academy Award-nominated actor -- a transformation so thorough, it's actually a little odd watching him play Wenneck again.
Cooper called after a long day of press events (that were held in Las Vegas, so your guess is as good as mine as to the amount of sleep he was running on). He discussed the end of the "Hangover" series, his relationship with David O. Russell, and the reasons behind his abrupt departure from the troubled Western "Jane Got a Gun." Cooper also talked about a recent meeting with Sean Penn (yes,...

We’re a full month away, but do you know what are you doing this Memorial Day? If two studios have their way, you’ll be spending a big chunk of it in a movie theater where a pair of highly anticipated sequels will be facing off. On May 24, the Warner Bros. comedy The Hangover Part III and the Universal action-adventure Fast & Furious 6 will premiere with hopes of drawing on their similarly young, male core demographic—while not stomping on each other’s toes in the process. “It’s as close to a coin-flip weekend as you’ll ever see in the summer season,...

It’s Monday, so we all know what that means! Yes, it’s time for another rundown of DVDs and Blu-ray’s hitting stores online and offline this week. It’s a very light week this week, so let us breakdown the new releases and highlight what you should – and shouldn’t – be buying from today, March 11th 2013.
Pick Of The Week
The Tall Man (DVD/Blu-ray)
Mystery thriller written and directed by Pascal Laugier. The small town of Cold Rock has long suffered since the mines which used to supply jobs and prosperity have closed down. With not much hope for the community of Cold Rock anyway, matters are only made worse by the disappearance of local children at the hands of local legend, ‘The Tall Man’. Following last night’s deserved victory for Bradley Wiggins, here’s six greats that somehow never got their hands on BBC Sports Personality of the Year…
6. Phil “The Power” Taylor
Only true greats manage to dominate a sport; think Schumacher in his Ferrari, Manchester United in the Premier League, or Australia in the Ashes series of the nineties and early noughties. None of them, however, can come close to Phil “The Power” Taylor’s domination of world darts. With fifteen Pdc World Championships to his name, thirteen World Matchplay Championships, and five Player of the Year awards, it is perhaps a travesty that Taylor is yet to win the ultimate people’s accolade (although winning Fans’ Player of the Year for the last five years running is probably some consolation).

Touring across the world with their immensely popular fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay have released a long-awaited new live film this week, Live 2012, marking their first full live album/concert film in almost a decade.
By far one of my favourite concert films of all time, Live 2012 is directed by Paul Dugdale, whose impressively long list of credits features some of the biggest names in the industry, including (but not limited to) Adele, The Killers, Rihanna, The Prodigy, David Guetta, Jessie J, Lostprophets, The Kooks, Labrinth, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, and most recently Emeli Sandé – a picture of awesomeness clearly starts to emerge.
Whilst busy in the editing room, having just filmed Emeli Sandé’s performance last week at the Royal Albert Hall in London, I had the opportunity to speak to Dugdale about his work with Coldplay on Live 2012, following its theatrical release across the globe last week.

Does a studio need at least one big-budget, summer tentpole film to stay competitive?
Conventional Hollywood wisdom says yes, and when Paramount Pictures decided to shift its upcoming sequel G.I. Movie analysts suggest film could beat Twilight and take up to $125m on its opening weekend – a record for a March release
The Hunger Games, which opens Friday, could set new record for a pre-summer blockbuster, movie industry executives are predicting.
The hotly-anticipated movie could take up to $125m at the Us box office this weekend, according to movie analysts. The sum would set a new record for a March opening.
The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling trilogy, tells the story of Katniss Everdeen, a young girl living in a dystopian world where children are forced to fight for their lives in an annual reality TV show.
Keith Simanton, managing editor of IMDb, the film industry website, said the movie and its two stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, were the three most-searched-for terms on the site.
"Early indication are that it's going to be huge," Simanton said.

So I got an email from Phil that said: “Wondered if you be interested in something we’ve just been sent for review? I was hoping you or one of the team would be up for reviewing the soundtrack to Transformers Prime? We’ve just been sent a download link for it, and seeing as you’re the Tf experts I thought it would be right up your street!”
I nearly fainted from excitement! Ever since the news that this was being released, I’ve been dying for it! I’ve heard Brian Tyler’s music in the past, in such films as Fast Five, The Expendables, Paparazzi, and games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Transformers Prime Ost earned Tyler the Emmy Award for...

Several police officers and match day stewards had to break up both Manchester United and Liverpool players after several for both teams had a physical tussle in the tunnel at half time. Sky Sports correspondent Jeff Shreeves reported the incident.
Tensions between both sets of players sparked off when Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand (whose brother is going through his own racism row & court case) didn’t shake the hands of Luis Suarez before the game, who had been found last year guilty of racially abusing the former. Evra offered his hand to Suarez who didn’t accept and went to Rio to shake his hand who wasn’t interested. The tension had boiled over to such a degree that the referee for the game Phil Dowd had to come between the players in what boiled over into something of a farce pre-match occurrence.

"The Adventures of Tintin" dominated the nominations but it was "Rango" that received the most trophies at the 10th Visual Effects Society (Ves) awards. Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.

The visual effects that we are seeing in movies these days are absolutely mind blowing. At this point it doesn't seem like there's any excuse for a film to have bad visual effects unless the people hired lack talent, or the studio is keeping the cash in their pockets.
There's a lot of good nomination this year such as Captain America, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Out of all of these I think that Planet of the Apes might take home the top prize, those apes were incredibly freaky looking. Weta did an amazing job with this movie, and out of all the other nominations this was the movie I was most impressed by. What are your thoughts? What movie did you think have the best visual effect in 2011?
Here's the full press release with all of the nominations:

hollywoodnews.com: Over the weekend, the Visual Effects Society announced the nominees for its 10th Annual Ves Awards ceremony, recognizing summer tentpoles (“Harry Potter,” “Captain America”) and surprise hits (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Hugo”) for their outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games.
“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”

In the second of our global cinema series, Phil Hoad looks at how Brazilian films such as José Padilha's Elite Squad series sold gritty social commentary to Hollywood
When Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite), José Padilha's film about Rio de Janeiro's infamous military-police unit, Bope, was released in 2007 the director found himself under siege. Many critics found its full-frontal assault on the issue of favela violence – baldly narrated by the trigger-happy Captain Nascimento (Wagner Moura) – too much to take. Variety dubbed it "a one-note celebration of violence-for-good", while Brazilian film critic Marcelo Janot said: "It's really dangerous when a film suggests that the fascist Bope methods are the only solution to 'clean' a city."
They'd probably take the dim view of Padilha's decision to make a sequel, with Nascimento, the Brazilian Dirty Harry, picking up where he left off: crouched behind a car under a storm of gunfire.

The Los Angeles Film Festival has announced the world premiere of Richard Linklater's Bernie as the opening night film for the 2011 festival.
The film will kick off the festival on June 16 at Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 at L.A. Live. It is written by Skip Hollandsworth and director Linklater and stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey.
The film follows a beloved mortician (Black) from a small Texas town, even winning over the town's richest, meanest widow (MacLaine). Even after Bernie commits a horrible crime, people still will not utter a bad word against him.
"We're thrilled to be opening the Festival with the world premiere of this delicious black comedy - a treat from one of the most original and exciting voices in independent film, Richard Linklater," said Festival director Rebecca Yeldham. "With its fabulous all-star cast, Bernie is a perfect stage setter for the incredible line-up of...

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of the Season Finale of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business.
The Season Finale of the Amazing Race Unfinished Business is in the books, and which of the four remaning second-chance teams took home the million dollar prize? Let's find out...
My Random Thoughts:
- Previously on The Amazing Race, a reminder of the demise of each of the remaining four teams in their original seasons, and a recap of the 7 teams eliminated so far this season, who will all be relegated to lining the finish line and applauding as if they care who wins. But, at least I got to see the footage of Luke melting down at the tea challenge once again, and that makes me happy. I wonder what he got Margie for Mother’s Day, clearly the most important day of the year for these two…I picture it as kind of...

First things first: If you’re Canadian, it’s election day, and you have to remember to vote. As good as you’ve got it up in the north with your universal healthcare and marriage equality, things can always go wrong if you don’t stay on top of them. And here’s a cheat sheet to most of your out candidates.
Osama Bin Laden has been killed in Pakistan, and the United States is in possession of the body. It was a human strike team, not a drone attack, and was carried out under direct presidential authorization. I lived in D.C. on 9/11, had recently left the military, and worked for a company with offices in the World Trade Center. I lost a lot of friends that day. I'll never forget seeing the military roll down the street in Georgetown. It's a form of closure.

"The finest Western you'll see this year is set in aristocratic 16th-century France, in the heat of Counter-Reformation," declares Nick Pinkerton. Segueing into his interview with Bertrand Tavernier, Aaron Hillis, also in the Voice, sums up the gist of The Princess of Montpensier: "Adapted from Madame de la Fayette's classic novel, the film concerns a nubile, wealthy heiress (Mélanie Thierry) who loves a rugged hothead from the wrong clan (Gaspard Ulliel), but is forced by her father to marry another prince (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet), leaving her to dwell on the too-modern desire for free will — defiantly bucking against the rigid traditions of her breed." Back to Pinkerton: "The setting always serves the performers rather than vice versa — though the film is also greatly enhanced by the costuming, the rugged French countryside photographed in outdoor-adventure CinemaScope, and Philippe Sarde's baroque-tribal score, its martial and romantic poles matching a tale of...
