From a certain point of view, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Eiza González may have just played the original real-life Bond girl.
Ungentlemanly Warfare, the first of González’s three Guy Ritchie movies to hit theaters, is loosely based on the recently declassified Operation Postmaster, chronicling Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (Soe) and their covert mission to neutralize Nazi Germany’s U-boats during World War II. The efforts of these unauthorized commandos and spies helped change the course of the war, allowing the United States to then join the European Theater of Operations in 1942.
In the action-thriller, González plays Marjorie Stewart, a talented soldier-spy who’s equally gifted as a performer. Together with Babs Olusanmokun’s Heron, Stewart set up shop at the Nazi-frequented island of Fernando Po where they communicated the Nazi’s latest comings and goings to their fellow Soe personnel, including a group of commandos...

For those like myself, who adore witnessing Anya Taylor-Joy grace the scene in enchanting gowns adorned with flowing fabrics and soft pastel hues, it’s time to prepare for a shift.
She’s undergoing a style metamorphosis, embracing a fusion of ethereal textures and an all-black aesthetic.
Anya Taylor-Joy captivates with sartorial duality, first in a sophisticated Christian Dior black midi dress with sheer details and opera gloves at the Dior Pre-Fall show, then exuding edgy allure in a studded Ludovic de Saint Sernin mini dress alongside Chris Hemsworth at CinemaCon 2024 (Credit: Instarimages)
Lately, Anya has been gravitating towards a darker palette, likely influenced by her role in her upcoming movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which will hit theaters on May 24.
In this film, she embodies the titular character Imperator Furiosa, a member of a motorcycle horde and a younger iteration of the role Charlize Theron portrayed in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel was the first step in Zack Snyder’s vision for the Dcu. The director brought it a unique and tonally dark film exploring Clark Kent’s evolution into becoming more human and his past catching up to haunt him. The dark and somber tone of the film left fans divided although Cavill’s impressive performance as Superman was praised.
Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel
Over the years, the film has managed to find more love, and the deconstruction of the character by Snyder has been lauded. The admiration of Snyder’s work has seeped into the MCU with Chloe Zhao taking inspiration from it for how she approached Ikaris in Eternals.

In Luca Guadagnino’s latest cinematic endeavor, “Challengers,” Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist form a dynamic, throuple-esque trio, each delivering performances that scream Oscar-worthy. The real question is, will Academy voters look beyond the palpable sexual chemistry to acknowledge the film’s artistic merit? That’s a challenge for the marketing maestros.
Penned by newcomer Justin Kuritzkes, the spouse of “Past Lives” writer-director Celine Song, “Challengers” weaves through a 13-year narrative, chronicling the life of Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a tennis wunderkind-turned-coach, who hatches a plan for her husband Art’s (Faist) comeback. The plan pits him against his ex-buddy and Tashi’s former flame, Patrick (O’Connor), setting the stage for a dramatic unraveling.

Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal headline the first of two 2025 releases from Guy Ritchie: In The Grey. More here.
Busy times in the life of Guy Ritchie. He’s currently doing promotional work for his incoming film, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is landing over the coming weeks. Yet even as he’s talking about that, he’s already in post-production on his next project, due from Lionsgate early next year.
Things we already knew: Ritchie has written the script as well as directing, while the cast features Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaall, Eiza Gonzalez, Carlos Bardem, Fisher Stevens, Jason Wong, and Rosamund Pike.
It was revealed too that it was an action film, one that shot in the Canary Islands last autumn. In terms of further details though, they were on the scant side, and we didn’t even have a title.

Yes, a female James Bond has been over a half-century in the making.
Before Lashana Lynch briefly donned the 007 title in “No Time to Die,” the film adaptation of “Dr. No,” a woman was in talks to lead the franchise 50 years prior.
In Nicholas Shakespeare’s upcoming biography of Bond author Ian Fleming, titled “Ian Fleming: The Complete Man,” it’s revealed that original “Casino Royale” producer Gregory Ratoff had imagined a woman in the titular lead role. In fact, Oscar-winning actress Susan Hayward was in Ratoff’s mind to take the part.
Prior to “Casino Royale,” the two Bond films had floundered with “Thunderball” and “Casino Royale” receiving poor reviews, hence the proposed gender-swap.
Shakespeare writes in the biography, “Since the mid-1950s, many well-known actors had been approached. Gregory Ratoff had the arresting idea of having Bond played by a woman, Susan Hayward. Ian had entertained several possibilities,...

The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will kick off with Quentin Dupieux’s “The Second Act,” a star-studded surreal French comedy headlined by Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard, Variety has learned.
The anticipated movie is produced by Hugo Selignac at Chi-Fou-Mi, a Mediawan company, and is represented in international markets by Kinology. The film will play out of competition on May 14 and will be released on the same day in French theaters.
Laced with absurdist humor, the meta movie follows actors starring in a doomed film production. Dupieux is one of France’s most popular and prolific filmmakers. He delivered two films in 2023: “Daaaaaalí,” which played out-of-competition at Venice, and “Yannick,” a French box office hit that sold around the world.

Christian Bale is known for his insane transformations and some of the most critically acclaimed roles in Hollywood. The 50-year-old Oscar winner has worked with some of the greatest directors and delivered some critically and commercially successful flicks. However, he also has a fair share of flop films in his career. Interestingly, many of these projects even came after his highly successful, The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Trilogy
Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy is one of the most significant works in Christian Bale’s filmography. His incredible performance as the Caped Crusader in Nolan’s gritty world elevated the trilogy’s quality and made Bale a household name. Surprisingly, even that stardom could not save the American Psycho fame from some of the biggest flops in his career.

Well, everyone, the winners for the 22nd Annual Golden Schmoes for the year 2023 are in. As expected, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer walked away the big winner, earning nine Schmoes. It took home most of the big prizes, including Best Movie, Actor, Supporting Actor, Director, Screenplay, Poster, Trailer, Line of the Year and Best Sequence. While an excellent showing that beat the seven wins Everything Everywhere All At Once took home last year, it still falls short of our all-time winner here at the Schmoes, Nolan’s own The Dark Knight, which won an amazing 12 awards.
Otherwise, the winners were an eclectic mix. Godzilla Minus One, which is now widely considered the greatest Kaiju movie ever made, took home three awards, including Best VFX, which is impressive considering how small its budget was compared to the competition. Third place was an interesting tie, with John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,...

At last year’s Cannes Film Festival, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford and Scarlett Johansson hit the red carpet to premiere their latest big movies. But Hollywood may have a much lighter presence at the 2024 edition of one of the world’s most notable film festivals.
The culprit is the combination of last year’s actors and writers strikes, which created production delays, as well as a tough economy that’s leading studios to tighten the purse-strings. But there will still be stars on the Croisette, in addition to “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, who will be presiding over the jury.
Based on intelligence from industry insiders on both sides of the Atlantic, the upcoming edition will have a larger emphasis on European auteurs, along the lines of Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest,” which were each nominated for five Oscars.

Dune 2 Star Timothee Chalamet Movies Ranked As Per Rotten Tomatoes. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Timothee Chalamet is being lauded for his fantastic performance in Denis Villeneuve’s epic saga Dune 2. The film was released in the theatres on Friday, and it’s a visual treat for moviegoers. The film is one of the top-rated ones across various platforms, but Chalamet, over his short career span, has given several high-rated films.
Chalamet won hearts with his lively performance as Willy Wonka in last year’s Wonka. It became his career’s highest-grossing film as a leading man. But it seems Dune 2 might take away that title soon. He is essaying the character of Paul Atreides, and his ascension in this part has been remarkably shown. Scroll below for more.
Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul seemed a bit lost in the first film but understood his purpose and became a leader in Dune 2.

Barry Keoghan is not afraid to bare it all, and that’s why he managed to go all out in his performance in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. He portrayed Oliver Quick, an Oxford University student invited to a luxurious estate owned by Jacob Elordi’s Felix and family.

Rosamund Pike has led an equally star-studded career as her peers, if not more. She has given absolutely mind-blowing performances, worked with other A-listed stars, and created some of the most magical masterpieces ever, like her all-time best 2005 classic novel adaptation, Pride & Prejudice. Yet even in that star-studded career, she has had a few failures as well.
Rosamund Pike in Saltburn
One of these failures includes her first and last movie with Dwayne Johnson, 2005’s video game-based Doom, which Pike is “embarrassed” to have starred in. But it wasn’t because the movie turned out to be a stinker, no. Rather, the reason why Rosamund Pike was this embarrassed about starring in Doom was because she partly blamed herself for its failure.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph continued her march to the Oscars podium this year with another victory for Best Supporting Actress. This time, it came on the other side of the Atlantic at BAFTA. She won for Focus Features’ “The Holdovers,” a film of which she is the very soul.
After giving one of the night’s most memorable speeches — in which she called presenter Chiwetel Ejiofor handsome and made co-star Paul Giamatti cry — Randolph made her way backstage to talk, wherein she expanded upon her connection to Britain way back before her BAFTA win. “I started on the West End in a musical but even prior to that, my education, I started at British American Drama Academy on the Oxford campus. I would come in on the weekend and see plays,” Randolph said.

Taking place at the Royal Festival Hall on Waterloo’s Southbank, film fans have gathered at the erected fences surrounding red carpets, with excited teens clamoring for sights of Zendaya and Margot Robbie.

The BAFTA Awards were presented on February 18 by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). So who prevailed? Scroll down for the complete 2024 BAFTA Awards winners list in all categories.
BAFTA is an independent arts charity that comprises thousands of industry insiders, much like the American motion picture academy. The BAFTAs could well give us a preview of what the Oscars might do in three weeks time on March 10. And with voting for the Oscars kicking off on February 22, this precursor could have an outsized influence.
Until 2013, the entire BAFTA membership decided the nominees in a complicated two-part process that involved a lot of longlists with the general membership deciding the semi-finalists and the branches making the final determination of the nominees. This was replaced in 2013 by a system more akin to the Oscars where nominations were determined by each branch (except for Best Picture). Two years ago,...

“Oppenheimer” swept the BAFTAs on Sunday night, winning awards for director Christopher Nolan and actor Cillian Murphy as well as taking home the prize for best film.
Overall, the movie took home seven golden BAFTA masks, with “Poor Things” coming in second place with five wins.
BAFTA chair Sarah Putt opened the ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday night by welcoming the star-studded audience, which included Prince William, who arrived solo as his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, continues to recuperate at home following an operation. William, who is president of BAFTA, did not give a speech, no doubt in part because of renewed interest in his personal life following his father King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis last month.
In her speech, Putt said she was sending Catherine and the King “our very best wishes” before handing over to the night’s host, “Doctor Who” star David Tennant.

Fifteen years ago, Carey Mulligan made her first visit to the Berlin Film Festival to support her star-making turn in the dramedy An Education. Lone Scherfig’s film centers on Jenny (Mulligan), a teen in 1960s suburban London who falls for a smooth-talking older man played by Peter Sarsgaard.
Scherfig (Italian for Beginners) shared an agent with writer Nick Hornby, who penned the script based on journalist Lynn Barber’s autobiographical essay.
The movie boasted supporting roles for Emma Thompson, Alfred Molina and Rosamund Pike but had a bumpy path and lost financing prior to production. Mulligan told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that 18 months passed between her initial audition and the project getting the greenlight, leading her to take a job at a pub in the interim.
When An Education premiered at Sundance in January 2009, THR praised it as a “smart, moving but not inaccessible entry in the coming-of-age canon.

What will the list of winners at this Sunday’s British British Academy of Film and Television Arts (better known by its acronym BAFTA) Film Awards look like? During their lively debate this week, they both individually and collectively foresaw a coronation for “Oppenheimer” in the Best Picture and Best Director (Christopher Nolan) categories as well as in several acting and crafts lineups and numerous honors for “Poor Things”. Not that they were all in agreement/alignment. The discussion almost grew a little heated a few times. But it seems this is not a year when radical dissent dominates the predictions. Watch their colorful slugfest above.
