Star Trek: Discovery, now in its fifth and final season (with new episodes dropping Thursdays), has one of the best—if not the best—couples of the long-running franchise in Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz). For Stamets, this final season is really about his legacy—especially upon learning that the spore drive program is being shuttered. Now that the U.S.S. Discovery crew has a new mission, “it’s his entire driving force,” Rapp tells TV Insider. “It’s a major crossroads moment and anytime any human being has a crossroads moment when he finds this new path, it’s like, all in. When you’re ready to walk away from something and then something else presents itself, it’s either, okay, I’m not going to do that or going to do it, but if I’m going to do it, I’m...

This article contains spoilers for the season 5 premiere of "Star Trek: Discovery."
With an ensemble cast as large as the one in "Star Trek: Discovery," it can't be easy to find a way to give each and every major character their own moment to shine. Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is all but guaranteed to play a significant role in any given episode, naturally, as is David Ajala's Cleveland Booker. Recent seasons have even committed to shining a brighter spotlight on the supporting cast at large, devoting much more screen time and emotional heavy-lifting to characters like Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Dr. Culber (Wilson Cruz), and Adira (Blu del Barrio). But Doug Jones' charismatic performance as the even-keeled Saru has always helped elevate "Discovery" to greater heights, serving much of the same narrative and thematic purpose as classic franchise characters like Spock or Data.

“Star Trek: Discovery,” the flagship series of Paramount+’s “Star Trek” universe, is heading toward its ending. The series, which premiered in 2017, will premiere its fifth and final season on April 4, closing the book on the adventures of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew.
A new season also means new challenges for any Starfleet captain, and IndieWire can exclusively share a new clip from the premiere episode that promises a big one for Burnham. On a recovery mission to secure a mysterious ship, Burnham receives information from her crew about signs of life on board. But as her supervisor Kovich coldly reminds her, her mission requires her to neutralize the potential threat “by any means necessary.”
Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, “Discovery” was a prequel to the groundbreaking original 1966 “Star Trek” series, taking place a decade before the adventures of Captain Kirk, Spock, and the other...

After five seasons, Star Trek: Discovery, the show that launched the new set of shows in the franchise to continue its long legacy, will be ending. It’s been quite the journey for this crew—especially for Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), considering he was killed early on! Ahead of the final episodes (the first two of which premiere April 4), TV Insider spoke with Cruz and had him look back at Culber’s journey, tease what’s to come in the final season, and talk about what’s next for him. Culber’s journey has been a wild one. Season 2 alone… Wilson Cruz: Epic. I didn’t know what I was signing up for because the first season I’m there, Dr. Culber’s definitely on the periphery. If anything, he’s Stamet’s [Anthony Rapp] partner. We don’t really get to know him until Season 2, ...

“Between season 1 and season 5 is an entire life.” That’s a real understatement on the part of Sonequa Martin-Green in an interview with Den of Geek magazine, describing the five-season and seven-year journey of her character Michael Burnham, the protagonist of Star Trek: Discovery.
When we first met Burnham way back in 2017, she was the first officer on the USS Shenzhou, a Starfleet ship operating about a decade before the events of The Original Series, and under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). By the end of the two-part premiere, Georgiou was dead and Burnham was in prison for mutiny.
Things have certainly changed since then. We begin Discovery‘s fifth and final season with Captain Michael Burnham of the USS Discovery, but adventuring over 900 years after the events of the premiere. Yeah, it’s been a wild journey, one that incurred more than a little criticism early...

When producer Alex Kurtzman launched Star Trek: Discovery nearly a decade ago, the idea of bringing the Star Trek franchise back to TV was a gamble. Back in 2015, the most popular science fiction TV series were either on the SyFy Channel or Doctor Who. After having gone out with a whimper with Enterprise in 2005, could Trek rematerialize as a fully rejuvenated version of itself? Could a mainstream audience be enticed back to the final frontier by yet another new crew? At first, the answer was maybe.
After several delays, Star Trek: Discovery debuted in 2017 on a newly minted streaming service, CBS All-Access, and the reviews were mixed. After the departure of Bryan Fuller, some critics felt Disco’s first season had a patchwork quality, amounting to a Trek tapestry that was as challenging as it was audacious. Not that long ago, a dark thriller featuring Kevin Spacey as a smooth-talking stranger who arrives in a small town with an apparent vendetta against one of its inhabitants might have been a major movie event. He was, after all, a hugely popular and critically acclaimed actor, known for playing iconic villains from The Usual Suspects and Seven all the way up through House of Cards. His gift for intimate, Shakespearean malice could certainly boost a box-office haul.
But not this time: I saw Spacey’s new film, Peter Five Eight,...

Kevin Spacey, who used to be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, found his name embroiled in several controversies. He has been repeatedly accused of s*xual misconduct by several men.
Even though he was cleared of almost all charges (via CNN), it led him to be fired from his critically acclaimed House of Cards series. Now the actor has hit the headlines once again after Lord of the Rings star Peter Mullan called him out for his extremely narcissistic behavior.

Approaching the final season of Star Trek: Discovery feels bittersweet. The adventures of this crew have been unique, primarily because of their time-jumping. The future of Star Fleet always had potential, and Discovery tapped into that well. No matter how you feel about Star Trek: Discovery, it’s been a show that wears its heart on its sleeve and opened the door to new viewers in the process. The final season kicked off at SXSW 2024, and the big screen premiere lived up to the venue.

Every franchise out there should be making casting choices that reflect the breadth and diversity of humanity we see every single day in our own lives, but "Star Trek" in particular has even more reason than others to do so. Heralded from its earliest conception as a progressive, forward-thinking, and uniquely idealistic series of stories, the property has done its best to maintain creator Gene Roddenberry's grand vision throughout its 50+ years of existence. That's not to say "Star Trek" has a perfect track record or has avoided certain missed opportunities over the years. Still, the franchise has always gone much further and more boldly than its contemporaries could ever claim to do.
As /Film's Jacob Hall notes in his review of the "Discovery" season 5 premiere, this particular "Star Trek" series has always made it a point to foreground characters of marginalized identities who rarely get a moment in the spotlight in most other entertainment.

Kevin Spacey will appear as a character named “The Devil” in Italian director Massimo Paolucci’s psychological thriller “The Contract,” which just wrapped principal photography in Rome.
The English-language film, described in a statement as having a similar storyline as Alan Parker’s “Angel Heart” and Taylor Hackford’s “The Devil’s Advocate,” also stars Eric Roberts and Vincent Spano, Italian production company Tm Entertainment said.
Spacey arrived in Rome last December to shoot “The Contract.”
Reps for Spacey, Roberts and Spano did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The “House of Cards” star’s career imploded amid allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017, but he has since been found not liable in an October 2022 lawsuit brought by “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp and was declared not guilty in a U.K. sexual assault trial in July 2023. In 2017, the venerable “Star Trek” science fiction franchise had gone a full twelve years without a new series, after Upn aired the series finale of “Enterprise” in 2005. That changed when Paramount released “Star Trek: Discovery” on their CBS All Access (since rebranded to Paramount+) streamer, kicking off a new era for the IP.
Now, seven years later, the series is set to take its own bow. The fifth and last season of “Discovery” is set to premiere this April, and Paramount+ has released a new trailer for the series’ swan song.
Initially set a decade before the events of the iconic 1966 “Original Series,” “Star Trek: Discovery” focused on Michael Burnham a crew member on the Federation ship USS Discovery. Kevin Spacey’s got an interesting Christmas Eve tradition. Every year, he posts a video to YouTube in his Frank Underwood/ House of Cards persona. This year, he’s doubled down on controversy by enlisting Tucker Carlson to interview him, with it released on the latter’s X (Twitter) page:

Spacey does his Frank Underwood schtick for about seven minutes, with the character teasing a presidential run and complaining about “trigger warnings” and “bean bag chairs in the Oval Office.”
To be fair to Spacey, despite his widespread cancellation, he was found not guilty in his high-profile sexual assault case in London, but a return to the mainstream still seems unlikely for the former star. In the new footage, Capt. Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala) contend with a massive, hostile alien creature that has the ability to cloak itself. “Star Trek: Discovery” star Martin-Green and showrunner Michelle Paradise introduced the clip during the Paramount+ panel at Ccxp on Saturday in São Paulo, Brazil.
Per the official logline, Season 5 “will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Captain Burnham will lead the crew of the USS Discovery on one final mission in 2024, and a new clip finally showed just what the team is up against.
Star Sonequa Martin-Green introduced the series-ending clip alongside showrunner Michelle Paradise at Ccxp in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday. In the scene, Captain Burnham is joined by Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala) as they face off against a shape-shifting being that also can cloak, making it a doubly formidable opponent.
“We have to get past it,” Burnham said. “See if you can communicate with it.” After Book communicated with the creature via his mind, Burnham asked, “Did you pick up anything?”
“Yeah,” Book told her. “It’s really pissed off.”

A large group of SAG-AFTRA members have signed an open letter saying they “would rather go on strike than take a bad deal.” The letter was released by “Members in Solidarity,” a collection of more than 3,600 performers including notable names like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jon Hamm, Mark Ruffalo, and Bryan Cranston.
“We have not come all this way to cave now,” the letter says, acknowledging that the actors strike has hit the 100 day mark. “We have not gone without work, without pay, and walked picket lines for months just to give...

Following an Oxford lecture on cancel culture, Kevin Spacey was given a standing ovation for performing a speech from Shakespeare and Thomas Middleton’s “Timon of Athens.”
It was Spacey’s first onstage performance since he was acquitted of sexual assault charges earlier this year. Douglas Murray, a columnist for The Telegraph as well as a friend of Spacey’s, led the Oxford lecture. The presentation and performance took place at the historic Sheldonian Theatre. Watch the full performance above.
“In an era of cancellation and defenestration, we sometimes forget that we cannot go on like this and also that we’ve been here before,” Murray said prior to Spacey’s performance, noting that the greatest writers and artists have addressed questions around cancellation “in their own times.”
The specific scene Spacey performed follows the philosopher Apermantus warning the titular Timon that he will one day be abandoned by everyone he holds dear.

Outside of Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery’s New York headquarters, a crowd of striking actors and supporting union members stretched across the street Thursday. The chant “one day longer, one day stronger,” echoed off the walls of a nearby theater and coffee shops. The night before, actors learned that after five days of face-to-face bargaining, Hollywood studio executives decided to step away from the table. To Jill Henessy (Law & Order, Crossing Jordan), the studios’ decision to suspend discussions has only energized the movement.

This is Day 92 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
At the first actors to picket after Wednesday night’s breakdown of their talks with the studios and streamers, SAG-AFTRA members in New York City said that they were disappointed by the setback but “holding strong” to their demands.
Striking actors who gathered Thursday outside Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery offices also cheered the announcement of bipartisan legislation in the U.S. Senate to protect them from artificial intelligence.
Writers joining them on the picket line after ratifying their own contract this week urged the actors to stay strong.
“It’s tactics,” The Wire creator David Simon told Deadline, speaking of the studios’ decision to suspend the talks and criticize SAG-AFTRA for demanding a share of studio profits. “They say you can’t have something and you’ll never get something, and ‘DGA settled for this and you don’t understand our industry.

Though strike guidelines prevent actors who participate in conventions this summer from promoting most of their work, it turns out that hasn’t lessened the experience. In fact, several actors told us at FanExpo Chicago over the weekend, their interactions with fans at cons have become more “meaningful.”
“One of the biggest things that we wanted to make sure [of] in our negotiating committee, when we were talking about the cons, is we wanted to make sure that we didn’t chastise the actors, or chastise the fans, because of what the big business is doing,” Michelle Hurd, “Star Trek: Picard” actress and SAG’s Los Angeles VP explained to TheWrap. “So we wanted to maintain this relationship.”
But that relationship hasn’t just been maintained, Hurd said, it’s arguably improved — and she hasn’t been the only one who’s noticed.

The WGA marked 100 days on strike on Aug. 9 with well-attended picket lines in both New York and Los Angeles.

Days after a London jury acquitted him of sexual assault, Kevin Spacey is back in the public eye — or at least the public ear — in the trailer for a new movie, Control. He portrays “The Voice” in the clip, speaking to Great Britain’s home secretary (Bridgerton’s Lauren Metcalfe) as he remotely takes control of her car and terrorizes her for some supposed misdeeds she’s committed politically. The car, which also contains the prime minister’s daughter, hits a pedestrian and hurdles toward oncoming traffic.

In mid-June, less than two weeks before the start of Kevin Spacey’s U.K. criminal trial over multiple sexual assault charges, the German publication ZEITmagazin featured an interview with the actor in which he said he anticipated working again almost immediately should he be found not guilty.
“There are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London,” he declared. “The second that happens, they’re ready to move forward.”
Such bold claims may come back to haunt the two-time Oscar winner, who was found not guilty of all nine charges he was facing in the U.K. In November, he was also found not liable in the New York civil case brought by U.S. actor Anthony Rapp.
With Spacey legally exonerated, is his claim that producers are now lining up to cast him true? And if so,...

Kevin Spacey has addressed the press corps following Wednesday’s not guilty verdict in his London sexual assault trial and after two days of deliberations — his first time speaking out since legal proceedings began on June 28.
Earlier Wednesday, the Oscar-winning “American Beauty” actor was cleared of all nine charges of sexual assault, indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity after the jury heard from four men who made complaints against him.
As broadcast by BBC World News, Spacey told reporters, “I imagine that many of you can understand that there’s a lot for me to process after what just happened today. I would like to say that I’m enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts carefully before they reached their decision, and I am humbled by the outcome today.

Kevin Spacey has emerged victorious in court yet again, as he has been found not guilty of all nine charges related to sexual misconduct, including seven of sexual assault. On Wednesday, Kevin Spacey’s trial concluded after nearly four weeks, with the jury deciding after a 12-hour deliberation that the four men who accused the two-time Academy Award-winning actor of crimes did not have a strong enough case. That’s a pretty good birthday present, as Spacey turns 64 today.
In addition to the seven counts of sexual assault, Spacey also faced charges of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity, all of which occurred between 2001 and 2013. As per reports from the trial, Kevin Spacey was emotional during the reading of the verdicts.

London, July 26 (Ians) Former ‘House of Cards’ star Kevin Spacey broke down in tears on Wednesday as a UK jury found him not guilty of nine charges of sexual assault, indecent assault and — the most serious of them all — causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity, says ‘Variety’.
This means, according to ‘Variety’, that Spacey, on his 64th birthday, has been cleared of all charges against him in the UK. It took the jury two days to come to the decision. The actor has spent the past four and a half weeks at Southwark Crown Court in London fighting his case.

The verdict in Kevin Spacey’s London sexual assault trial is here. The actor has been found not guilty and cleared of all nine charges against him.
The verdict was rendered after over 48 hours of deliberation. BBC News reports that the actor appeared emotional upon being acquitted.
Spacey faced sexual and indecent assault charges from four men over incidents alleged to have occurred between 2004 and 2013 when the actor was the director of London’s famed Old Vic Theatre.
When the Crown Prosecution Service brought charges against Spacey in 2022 it raised the specter of whether the actor would be willing to travel to London to face them. If he had been unwilling, an extradition would have had to be arranged. Instead, Spacey voluntarily journeyed to London to be formally charged and has appeared every day at the Southwark Crown Court on London’s South Bank as the trial unfolded.

A UK jury has cleared Kevin Spacey of all of the sexual assault charges against him.
