There are at least two disparate movies in Hari ng Tondo (Where I Am King), Carlos Siguion-Reyna's first feature film in more than a decade. The first movie is the one written by Bibeth Orteza, which was followed faithfully by Siguion-Reyna. Orteza is a veteran screenwriter whose most recent works are television sitcoms or sitcom-like crowd drawers like Nobody Nobody but Juan (Eric Quizon, 2009), Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote (Tony Y. Reyes, 2010), and My Little Bossings (Marlon Rivera, 2013). Her best scripts, however, are the ones directed by Siguion-Reyna, like Ligaya ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin (Call Me Joy, 1997), Ang Lalaki sa Buhay ni Selya (The Man in Her Life, 1997), and Kahapon, May Dalawang Bata (Yesterday Children, 1999). Her...

Arsenal will announce the successful signing of Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil in the “coming hours”, according to the BBC’s David Ornstein.
Gunner’s manager Arsene Wenger has come in for intense criticism in recent weeks over the lack of new signings at Emirates Stadium this summer but he looks set to finally splash the cash on the Germany international.
The Londoners are set to break their club-transfer record after agreeing a £42.4 million deal with Real for the services of the 24-year-old, who scored nine La Liga goals last season.
Ozil has agreed personal terms with Arsenal but must undergo a medical before the Gunners can confirm his signing, while BBC Sport’s David Ornstein goes on to report “the documentation is being signed and completed as we speak.”

When Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger submitted his second bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, he put £40 million and £1 on the table.
Now, following his latest attempt at bolstering his struggling side with last night’s offer of £10 million for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, there’s a running joke that the notoriously frugal boss’s next move will be to throw in an extra £1.
Wenger doesn’t like spending money. The veteran Frenchman has become infamous for this trait.
Since taking over at the Gunners in 1996, the most he has ever spent on any one player is the £17.5 million paid to Sevilla for Jose Antonio Reyes in 2004.
And with Newcastle demanding £20 million for Cabaye, you do have to wonder if Wenger is prepared to smash his club’s-transfer-record on a player who turns 28 next January.
You see, Arsenal don’t splash the cash on big players.

Arsenal have been told they aren’t “anywhere near” matching Liverpool’s valuation of striker Luis Suarez, according to the BBC.
Liverpool have rejected two bids from Arsenal for the Uruguayan, including a Gunner’s club-record £40 million plus £1 offer, but Suarez wants to talk with the North Londoners.
Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo:
“If Arsenal want the player they have to produce the value for the player.
“There was an offer a few weeks ago of £35m and two weeks later it is now £40m and £1. I don’t think it is anywhere near the value of what he is worth.
“It is two-fold really. A player may want to go, but then somebody has to pay the value or worth of that player.”

One great season does not make a great player.
Robin Van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004, with the pressure of filling the boots of Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp on his shoulders, and arguments with Feyenoord manager Bert Van Marwijk behind him.
A young talent compared to Marco Van Basten for his shooting and dribbling ability, the striker would battle new signing Jose Antonio Reyes for a spot in the Arsenal attack. But injuries, immaturity and poor finishing held Van Persie back as he tried to stake his claim as an Arsenal legend.
After battling with injury, form and competition for his place, the Dutchman finally unleashed his best work in the 2011-12 season, scoring 37 goals in 48 appearances and earning him a transfer to rival club Manchester United this summer for £24 million.
The pressure is massive, Old Trafford expectant. A long line of prolific strikers precedes him as he takes his place as a Manchester United forward.

Tony Y. Reyes‘ Ang Darling Kong Aswang, starring comedian Vic Sotto, is the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival’s #2 hit. Apparently Filipinos, like movie audiences elsewhere, have been craving for stories featuring vampires. But unlike the worldwide megahits Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, in which the vampire is a sexy male (Robert Pattinson), in Ang Darling Kong Aswang the undead is a sexy woman, Christine Reyes. Ang Panday has been this year’s top film. At the other extreme, boxer-turned-actor Manny Pacquiao’s vehicle Wapakman has thus far come in last at the box office. Also of interest, Philippine News offers the Metro Manila festival’s criteria for the Best Picture award: "artistry, creativity and technical excellence, [...]...
