Leading German actor and occasional director of the 1920's and 30's. Began as a romantic urbane lead of silent pictures, later graduating to character roles. After 1933, he became a member of the Nazi Party and was named a 'State Actor' (Staatsschauspieler) in 1939. In May 1944, he actually performed at a party for the staff at the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. Riemann's status and career diminished significantly after 1945.
In the 40's drew his career to a close.
The actor Johannes Riemann began his successful film career already in the 1910's.
The sound film offered him further interesting roles. In the middle of the 30's he also directed several movies, among others "Ich sehne mich nach Dir" (1934), "Ich heirate meine Frau" (1934), "Eva" (1935) and "Gauner im Frack" (1937).
