Nearly two years have gone by since Scream Factory brought the “nature run amok” cult classic Alligator and its sequel Alligator II: The Mutation to Blu-ray in North America. Now 101 Films’ Black Label are set to Alligator a 4K release in the UK – and since 4K Uhd discs are region free, fans outside the UK will be able to enjoy this release as well! The release date is January 29th, and copies are available for pre-order through the 101 Films website. The Alligator 4K is accompanied by a fresh Blu-ray release of Alligator II: The Mutation, but if you’re outside the UK you might need a region free player to watch that one.
Here’s the information on the release:
101 Films presents cult classic creature feature Alligator (1980) on 4K Uhd, along with the TV cut and 1991 sequel Alligator II: The Mutation (1991) on Blu-ray, title 033 on the 101 Films Black Label.

Here's a TV curio that deserves a second look. Back before Bob Odenkirk became Saul Goodman, before Charlie Kaufman became an Oscar-winning writer/director, and before David Mirkin became showrunner over at "The Simpsons," they all worked together on a little-known show that, honestly, shouldn't have ever made it to air.
"Get A Life" was a short-lived satirical take on the sitcom format starring Chris Elliott as Chris Peterson — a 30-year-old paper boy who still lived with his parents, Gladys and Fred Peterson. The show appeared on Fox and ran from 1990 to 1992 before it was unceremoniously axed by the network. And even though there's a chance you've probably never heard of it, "Get A Life" had a small but significant cult following that persists to this day — mostly due to its often surreal and absurdist humor that made it unlike any other network show at the time. As the Washington Post put it,...

With a dime of films under his belt, the debate regarding which Quentin Tarantino film is his best rages on. With such a wide spectrum of subgenres and influences on display in his work, assessing Tarantino's filmography comes down to a matter of subjective taste, but real ones know that "Jackie Brown" should always be in contention for the top spot.
The film sees Pam Grier in the titular role, a flight attendant who is busted smuggling funds for her arms dealer boss, Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). Two law enforcement agents (Michael Keaton and Michael Bowen) attempt to enlist her to help bring him down, threatening her with jail time if she chooses not to. Unfortunately, Robbie isn't someone who takes betrayal kindly, and turning him in could mean being killed for her participation. Jackie Brown instead decides to double-cross them both, taking the smuggled money for herself...

Back when we did our Class of 1980 celebration, one of the films that I made sure we showed some love to was Lewis Teague’s Alligator (you can read the piece Here), as it is a film that I have always believed should be celebrated as one of the best creature features to come out of the 1980s, or any decade really. It’s a story that, on paper, should be far more ridiculous and silly than Teague’s film ends up coming off, which i think is due to the talents of the director, legendary screenwriter John Sayles and Alligator’s top-notch cast, which includes the late, great Robert Forster and a number of other stellar performers.
With all that in mind, I have to say that Scream Factory’s 4K release of Alligator feels like a real gift to genre fans, especially since the film has been largely...

Hey everyone! We have one last batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases headed our way before the end of the month, and this week’s offerings are massive, with well over 20 titles coming out on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD this Tuesday alone.
One of my favorite creature features ever is getting some love in HD finally, with Scream Factory’s 4K release of Lewis Teague’s Alligator (and its sequel is headed to Blu-ray this week as well), and the horror comedy Dead Heat is also getting a 4K upgrade. For all you giallo fans out there, Forgotten Gialli: Volume 3 is being released tomorrow and features three more Italian classics genre fans are going to want to own, and Severin Films is keeping busy with a ton of titles this week too: Bloody Pit of Horror, Black Candles, Night of the Demon, and The Halfway House.

Prepare for You’re the Worst‘s Lindsay and Becca to regress… even more than usual.
The Fxx comedy has hired Robin Riker (General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful) to play Fay Cottumaccio, mother to Lindsay and Becca, per The Hollywood Reporter. The character, an actress of some fame in the 1980s, arrives in town to take a part on a sitcom, prompting her daughters to compete for her attention. Riker will appear in two episodes.
Mama’s appearance seems like it might put a pause on Lindsay’s nascent self-improvement, which series creator Stephen Falk talked about with...

Before he received acclaim as a writer/director of such films as Brother from Another Planet (’84), Matewan (’87), and The Secret of Roan Inish (’94), John Sayles made a splash on the horror scene as the writer of fun, clever satires such as Piranha (’78) and The Howling (’81). However, he did another that doesn’t get nearly as much love, and that’s his ode to an overgrown reptile, Lewis Teague’s Alligator (’80). Which is a shame, as it is just as much of a blast as the other two.
Alligator was released in July to solid reviews, and tripled its budget in returns, bringing in $6.5 million U.S. Not too bad for an independent (Group 1 International Distribution Organisation Ltd., the fine folks behind Ufo’s Are Real), and a good indicator that horror fans are always up for a smart romp. Alligator glides through that sweet swamp filled with fear and good humor.

One of the scariest devices utilised in horror fiction is the terrifying prospect of evil entities lurking beneath the Earth’s surface.
Whether it’s deep underground in caves, or just below the surface in man-made underground locations like subways and sewers, knowing something is down there lying in wait in the darkness is the stuff nightmares are made of.
Ghosts, monsters, murderous humans and various other otherworldly creatures – Hollywood has given us a massive variety of subterranean terrors over the years.
In this article, I’m going to look at a dirty dozen of some of the most terrifying subterranean nasties that Hollywood has ever given us.

Fitting in with the in crowd. That's just as important a part of school as achieving high grades. Some find this easier than others. If you're blessed with good looks, razor sharp cheekbones and buckets of charisma, bordering on arrogance, you've bypassed the queue and entered the inner sanctum of cool. If you're not so lucky, you have to work just that little bit harder. Finding a hidden talent can help - if you're in a band or croon a bit in the bathroom, this will come in useful. Sporty? Again, a useful cool card to be played. And judging by the latest Buffy episode, Witch, shaking balls of shredded paper while chanting at the top of your voice provides the girls with a pass into the trendy clique.
Having already established a reputation as a stake-wielding harbinger of death to all vampires, it's little wonder that Buffy's having...

Chicago – Charlie Kaufman (“Adaptation,” “Being John Malkovich”) once wrote for a TV sitcom so odd that its network and most of the U.S. had no idea what to make of it. Without question, “Get a Life” was ahead of its time. So much of the twisted comedy of 2012 owes a debt to this true oddity from two decades ago, a unique gem that is finally getting a complete series release years after fans started clamoring for it.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
Was it worth the wait? First and foremost, the show is much funnier than I remembered. As the audio commentary points out (and there’s one on every episode), the series premiere of “Get a Life” was a relatively straightforward comedy about a man-child. It wasn’t nearly as dark and twisted as it would later become. Quickly, “Get a Life” turned more into a show about a demented loner and...

Sooner or later, all monsters end up hiding in a sewer. Here’s our list of 10 particularly fine B-movie drainage systems…
If you were a hideous monster mutated by toxic waste or radiation, where would you hide? In the warmth of a garden shed? In the car stereo section of Halfords, perhaps? Of course you wouldn’t. Instead, you’d scuttle straight for the nearest sewer, where you can hide safely in the darkness and trickling effluent.
If B-movie cinema is to be believed, the tunnels beneath our streets are positively teeming with all manner of cannibalistic monsters and hideously outsized prehistoric lizards. This list, therefore, is all about the fine sewer systems of B-picture cinema, where some of mankind’s greatest fears lurk…

Lowder remained in this role until 2005 and earned both a Daytime Emmy nomination and Soap Opera Digest Award along the way. Clearly, I think we can all agree the greatest horror movie cliche ever created is the young, hot, sexy female scientist, aged 27 (who has been the best in her field for 25 years) who must join forces with the local sherrif/game warden/army captain to fight a vicious giant snake/reptile/sasquatch/gorgon before it destroys humanity. Need examples? Tara Reid as Aline Cedrac in Alone in the Dark (2005), Robin Riker as Marisa Kendall in Alligator (1980) and Saffron Burrows as Dr. Susan McCallister in Deep Blue Sea (1999). I could go on. But then I couldn't tell you about Krista Allen as Dr. Andrea Swanson, snake-studyer, in the new straight-to-dvd miracle Silent Venom about - you guessed it! - giant deadly scary snakes. watch the trailer... read more...
