Has a daughter with husband Juancho Gutierrez, Maritess Gutierrez, who tried acting briefly.

She and Nida Blanca were arch-rivals as movie queens during the 1950s and 1960s, but were very friendly with each other. Ms Romero even agreed to have a lesser role in Ms Blanca's Miguelito (Batang Rebelde) (1985).

The only living Filipino actress who can claim to have been a movie queen during the 1950s and still appear in a 2006 film. Ever the durable actress, she even has a contract with a television network to this day.

Separated from her husband, actor Juancho Gutierrez, but when he got sick, she took him back and nursed him to health.

The only actress in Philippine movie history to win the FAMAS Best Actress Award for a comedy role.
