The new, blacky comic and somewhat meta-sounding Anaconda reboot is currently filming in Queensland, Australia, and from the production comes a new bit of casting. Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Ione Skye and Selton Mello have all been added to the line-up, which is already headlined by Jack Black and Paul Rudd.

The new Anaconda is being directed by Tom Gormican, who previously made The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent – an action comedy that doubled as a knowing retrospective on its star Nicolas Cage and his acting career. Judging by the story details from the production so far, Gormican’s Anaconda (stop chortling at the back) has a similar post-modern edge.

So, we decided to compile a list of the most anticipated horror films that are coming in 2025.

Presence (January 24) Credit – Neon

Presence is an upcoming supernatural horror thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh from a screenplay by David Koepp. The upcoming film revolves around a family who move into a suburban neighborhood and soon believe their house is haunted. While the plot for Presence sounds like a typical horror film, the ultimate twist, aka hook for the upcoming Soderbergh film, is that the film is shot from the ghost’s perspective.

Paul Rudd is soaking up the sun during a day at the beach in Gold Coast, Australia.

The 55-year-old Ant-Man actor is currently in Australia filming the new Anaconda reboot, which he stars in with Jack Black.

Four more stars have joined the cast of the upcoming Anaconda reboot movie!

Back in August 2024, it was revealed that a comedic re-imagining of the 1997 horror movie was in the works from Columbia Pictures with Tom Gormican directing and collaborating on the script.

Now on Friday (January 17), it was announced that Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn have signed on to star in the new movie.

The comedy stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black based on the action horror film series.

“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” writers Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten wrote the screenplay, with Gormican attached to direct. “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Tomb Raider” screenwriter Evan Daugherty wrote the previous draft of the script.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing via their Fully Formed banner.

“Anaconda” which is currently in production in Australia, is supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.

How funny is 2025 going to be?

Last year wasn’t great for comedies, with movies like The Fall Guy and If failing at the box office. Could 2025 be a rebound? It’s possible, which inspired me to put together a list of the 10 comedies I’m most intrigued to see this year. Some are much-awaited sequels to beloved movies. Others are daring swings by acclaimed indie directors. And one of them features Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd at odds. Clearly, there’s something for everyone in 2025.

I organized my picks by release date, putting movies that don’t yet have a fixed spot on the calendar at the end in alphabetical order. But, as always, it’s a roll of the dice when you’re putting together a guide like this. I haven’t seen any of these movies, so I’m really just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

One of the best parts of entering a brand new year is looking ahead and previewing another packed year for horror. Jack Nicholson may still be a household name, but his public appearances are becoming more and more rare. Now less of an on-the-town movie star and more of a “I’d rather sit under a tree and read a book than act” retiree, it’s been two years since he has been photographed — a streak broken this week thanks to an Instagram post from his daughter.

Sharing photos from this past holiday season, Lorraine Nicholson included a shot of her and her 87-year-old father, who appears a bit more clean-cut than he was when he was last seen in public at a Lakers game in 2023.

In the background, you can see what is presumably a portion of the elder Nicholson’s library, with shelves of books, several black-and-white portraits, and, of course, a number of prestigious Hollywood awards on the top shelf.

The 87-year-old actor’s daughter, Lorraine, released the image (below) as part of a series of holiday snaps. The image shows Lorraine embracing the three-time Oscar winner in what appears to be a library or office, with some of the actor’s awards lining a bookcase shelf behind him. She captioned the post, “The giving season.”

This reportedly marks the first public image of the three-time Oscar winner in nearly two years.

Saturday Night Live spoiled its audience with a cameo-packed episode hosted by Martin Short to close out 2024. But if it wasn't for time restrictions, another big-name cameo would have been added to the list.

The cold open kicked things off by officially inducting Short into the Five Timers Club. Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Paul Rudd, John Mulaney, Emma Stone, Alec Baldwin, Scarlett Johansson, and Jimmy Fallon all showed up to start the show. Lorne Michaels and Dana Carvey also popped up later in the episode.

A cut-for-time sketch prevented actress Lucy Liu from officially making a cameo during the episode. But thankfully, Saturday Night Live added the sketch online for all to enjoy.

Martin Short was inducted into Saturday Night Live’s Five-Timers Club last night, welcomed by a dazzling array of members of the SNL royal family. The fact that the party replaced the tiresome political cold open just made it all the sweeter. Call the sketch a victory lap for Lorne Michaels. Is there any other TV show, comedy or not, that could gather a group like this?

First up, Tom Hanks, lounging in a leather chair like he was going to narrate another World War II documentary.

Hanks shared a piece of SNL history — he was the one who invented the idea of a “Five-Timers Club,” mainly as an “ingeniously lazy” way to avoid writing a host monologue that week. True story!

Paul Rudd joined Hank to welcome in Short, who previously played the Five-Timers Club cabana boy when Justin Timberlake was inducted. It’s quite a promotion.

Hozier staged a special performance of The Pogues’ holiday classic “Fairytale of New York” during Saturday Night Live’s Christmas show.

While the original song saw The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan trading verses with the equally iconic Kirsty MacColl, Andrew Hozier-Byrne opted to perform a version featuring three different female vocalists: Melissa McMillan, Rachel Beauregard, and Kamilah. Hozier’s SNL performance also featured a revised fifth verse that sanitized some of the song’s controversial lyrics.

Nothing brings out the stars quite like a Saturday Night Live Five Timers Club meeting. So when Martin Short joined the club this week, SNL put together one reunion after another as a parade of cameos came out to celebrate.

Short, a former cast member, finally joined the illustrious club this weekend. He first hosted in 1986 and has become SNL's "Mr. December" as each hosting turn has come during the holiday month.
