Stereoscopic Imaging Consultant John A. Rupkalvis is currently CEO of
StereoScope International, which he founded in 1972, and Vice President
of StereoMed, Inc., which he co-founded in 1978. He has served numerous
clients in the motion picture and television industries, offering
extremely experienced consultation on stereoscopic (three dimensional,
or "3-D") imaging acquisition and display for producers and exhibitors.
One of his first professional projects was an interactive 3-D television virtual reality system built for the University of Minnesota in 1972.
His StereoScope special effects cinematography system (both 35mm & 70mm), the StereoScope SD, HD, and Super HD television systems, the StereoScope animation and title production system, the StereoScope 2-D to 3-D conversion system, the StereoScope computer graphics system, the StereoScope autostereoscopic system, as well as several proprietary systems were all designed and developed.
His extensive background has included serving as stereographer on over a dozen 3-D features and other productions, where he also occasionally served as director of photography or camera operator in addition to his stereoscopic consultation.
