Updated Exclusive: Five senior female BBC News channel presenters have commenced legal action against the British broadcaster after a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
Earlier on Thursday, Deadline reported that Martine Croxall was taking the BBC to an employment tribunal, according to a listing for a two-day hearing at London Central on May 1.
Martine Croxall is the listed litigant, but multiple sources said Karin Giannone, Geeta Guru-Murthy, Kasia Madera, and Annita McVeigh are parties to the case. The presenters have been off air for over a year, though Guru-Murthy and McVeigh recently returned to the news channel.
It is the highest-profile tribunal faced by the BBC since the corporation lost a landmark gender pay battle with Newswatch host Samira Ahmed in 2020.
Details of the case against the BBC are not in the public domain, but the tribunal listing makes clear that the complaint involves issues including age and sex discrimination,...

Exclusive: The BBC News channel has lost 1M viewers in the UK after it was merged with BBC World News as part of the corporation’s efforts to slash costs.
BBC News’ audience reach in April stood at 9.7M viewers, according to figures published by Barb, the UK ratings body. This was down 9% from 10.7M in March and 23% from 12.6M in April 2022.
The 9.7M figure was comfortably BBC News’ worst audience reach in at least 16 months, though it is likely to be longer, given Barb’s figures only date back to December 2021.
BBC News remains the most-watched news network in the UK. Its closest rival is Sky News, which had a reach of 7.7M last month. New entrants Gb News and TalkTV posted audiences of 2.8M and 1.4M respectively.

Ten days have gone by since Warlock star Julian Sands went missing while hiking up Mount Baldy in Southern California. While his car has been located, the actor himself is still missing, and we’re still hoping for a positive outcome to this situation. In a bit of awkward timing, the latest movie Sands starred in was just given a Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release today – it’s the horror movie The Ghosts of Monday, and you can pick up a copy at This Link. To help you figure out whether or not this is a movie you would like to watch, we have the trailer embedded above.
Directed by Francesco Cinquemani, The Ghosts of Monday promises to deliver an unnerving horror experience. The film centers on Mark Huberman (Vikings Valhalla) as a television director who becomes embroiled in a supernatural conspiracy after traveling to Cyprus to make a tv pilot about a haunted hotel.

“Everyone struggles to find a version of themselves that they like,” so says Jane, as played by Gillian Jacobs, in the new, spellbinding exquisite-corpse film “The Seven Faces of Jane.” She’s talking to a young teenage girl who’s run away on her quinceañera, but she’s talking to herself too.
Jane has something of an identity crisis, or rather, one that’s been created for her. A single mother with time to spare while her daughter is away at camp, Jane sets off on an adventure, or several of them, actually. What follows are seven different stories by different directors, none of whom know what the others are doing.
This form is known as an “exquisite corpse,” as is defined at the start of the film, which functions almost like a game of Telephone. The directors in question, curated by Roman Coppola, are Jacobs herself, Gia Coppola, Boma Iluma,...

The Hotel Gula, stately, luxurious and abandoned for over twenty years since the food for a party’s banquet was seasoned with rat poison leading to the painful death of everyone in attendance as well as the owner’s suicide. It’s hardly the kind of place that would need help to appear haunted.
But less than ten minutes into The Ghosts of Monday that’s exactly what Bruce the host of a ghost hunting show, is suggesting to the property’s new owners, Frank and Rosemary. This does not sit well with the show’s director Eric. And the last thing this production needs is more tension, Eric’s ex-wife, and Bruce’s daughter, Sofia is also part of the show’s crew.

"What version of yourself do you want to be?" Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for an indie film creation called The Seven Faces of Jane, starring Gillian Jacobs. In total eight segments are directed by eight different directors, with one directed by Jacobs herself. Its protagonist is Jane, who finds herself tumbling through a gauntlet of surreal, beautiful and heartbreaking adventures. After dropping off her daughter at a summer camp for the first time, and encouraging her reticent child to engage in new experiences, Jane finds herself heeding her own advice. Starring Jacobs, Anthony Skordi, Chido Nwokocha, Sybil Azur, Emanuela Postacchini, Joni Reiss, Daniela Hernandez, Soledad St. Hilaire, Joel Mchale, & Breeda Wool. Produced / presented by Roman Coppla.

Exclusive: Filming on The Offer, Paramount+’s upcoming limited series about the making of The Godfather, was suspended due to a positive test in the central Zone A that includes the cast and those interacting with them, Deadline has learned.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily halted production on The Offer due to the return of a positive coronavirus test result during routine testing,” a rep for series producer Paramount Television Studios said in a statement to Deadline about the production pause, which came Wednesday. “We will continue to follow all safety protocols and monitor the situation closely.”
The development comes amid a surge of the Delta Covid variant in Los Angeles. HBO’s Westworld and FX’s American Horror Story also recently paused production over positive Covid tests.

The late Richard Benner’s 1977 “Outrageous!” blazed trails as both a hit Canadian export and positive screen depiction of gay life, two relative rarities at the time. Even then, some gay viewers found the funny-sad friendship between a hairdresser/professional drag queen and a young schizophrenic woman a bit old-fashioned. But everybody was won over by Craig Russell’s stage impersonations of Hollywood stars — schmaltz and camp being a reliable combination for gay cinema with crossover ambitions.
That formula has scarcely altered 43 years later for “Stage Mother.” It’s the latest from Thom Fitzgerald, whose 1997 “The Hanging Garden” was also shot in Nova Scotia, and helped herald a new, perhaps more politically bold and artistically adventuresome generation of gay Canadian filmmakers. His more recent work has fitted into a time-tested mould of sentimental seriocomedy, however. This tale of a small-town Texas matron who inherits her estranged son’s San Francisco drag bar offers up smiles,...
