    German character actress, on the stage at various theatres in Berlin during the 1920's. In films, played mostly well-to-do or noble-born ladies. Left Germany after being excluded from the Reichstheaterkammer due to her Jewish ancestry. Emigrated to the United States in December 1938 (adopting American citizenship six years later). Helped by William Dieterle to gain a foothold in Hollywood as a bit part supporting player. Left acting in 1966.
