Before he became the pitchman for Timex, he was a national TV newsman
on the evening news in the early to mid 1950s. He always wore a flower
on his lapel and every evening after delivering the major portion of
the news would say "Hopscotching in the world of headlines."
Swayze was the pitch man for Timex watches in which Timexes were
strapped to motorboat propellers, dunked underwater, fastened to the
bottom of skis, after which he'd show the watch and say, "Takes a
licking and keeps on ticking."
