Throughout the series, Harper got involved with multiple women only some sticking around to be a serious love interest for the fickle character. We caught up with Kavan about the movie (which you will adore) and for some When Calls the Heart chitchat. Consider this conversation your prep work before catching the premiere of Big Sky River on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on Sunday, August 7 at 9/8c.

Big Sky River is such a beautiful movie, visually and emotionally. How did you get involved with it?

Well, as a matter of fact, I was planning a vacation.

As required of such films, things go terribly awry, setting up the comedic plot course. As feared, they forgot most of the comedy component.

It looks like a Painkiller Jane movie is finally back up and running - this time with Jessica Chastain in the lead role...

Painkiller Jane, the comic from the creative team of Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti is finally getting the big screen treatment. And it seems they're serious this time. Jessica Chastain will take on the title role, as well as produce through Freckle Films along with Lenny Beckerman and Stephen L’Heureux. The character has appeared in a handful of comics since her debut in 1996.

Here's Deadline's synopsis: "...a New York City street cop who gets recruited by the FBI to infiltrate a major NYC drug and human trafficking ring. In a near death experience, Jane develops exceptional regenerative abilities that give her a unique indestructible advantage. With nothing to live for and no way to die, Painkiller Jane becomes an unstoppable force of nature...

Coming close to death gave her the power to be unstoppable. New York City police officer Jane Vasko was nearly killed while undercover, but she bounced back as the vengeful Painkiller Jane in the comic book series of the same name. While a film adaptation has been in the works for quite some time, it now looks like Jessica Chastain will bring the lead role to life.

Deadline reports that Chastain is set to produce and play the starring role in Painkiller Jane. Producing the project alongside Chastain's Freckle Films will be Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films, with Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian and Jimmy Palmiotti on board as executive producers (Palmiotti also co-wrote the comic book series with Joe Quesada).

Many horror fans are familiar with the Soska sisters, the directing duo behind 2012′s American Mary and the upcoming See No Evil 2. Fans of American Mary should be pleased to learn that Jen and Sylvia Soska now have their next project in sight: an adaptation of the comic book series, Painkiller Jane.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the Soska sisters have signed on to helm a feature film adaptation of the comic originally created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada for Event Comics in 1995, with Palmiotti as one of the producers. For those unfamiliar with the comic book, recently relaunched by Dynamite Entertainment, here’s the synopsis via THR:

“Jane centers on the titular heroine, a cop, who, along with with her best friend and partner, goes undercover into an interconnected drug ring. When her identity is exposed, Jane is tortured, which leaves her with preternatural regenerating abilities and a high tolerance for pain.

According to TorontoFilm.Net, Canada's Showcase has greenlit a fifth season of the Toronto-lensed supernatural series "Lost Girl" for 13 episodes. Starring Anna Silk, production starts on Season Five Spring 2014, set to air Fall 2014.

"Rooted in folklore and mythology, 'Lost Girl' has inspired a passionate and dedicated fan following with its deeply engaging characters, richly imagined universe and boundary-pushing storylines," said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media.

Just in case you haven’t checked out the SciFi Mafia calendar (there’s a tab for it above) lately, our Mondays are about to get a lot more crowded. This week marked the return of Almost Human, but next week is when things get crowded, as it is joined by the return of its Fox neighbor Sleepy Hollow, and Syfy unleashes an entire block of programming, with the return of Lost Girl and Being Human and the premiere of Bitten.

Anglo/Australian filmmaker Brian Trenchard-Smith is developing Sword Point, a drama about an injured Chinese gymnast who takes up fencing in a bid to realise her dream of representing China in sport.

The Los Angeles-based filmmaker and his producing partner Marty Fink are shopping the project to Chinese companies with a view to a mounting it as an Australian/Chinese co-production.

The sports-themed drama may seem far removed from the usual milieu of the writer-director whose credits include the action adventures BMX Bandits, The Man from Hong Kong and Stunt Rock, horror movies Turkey Shoot and Dead End Drive-in, and TV.s Flipper.

Supernatural drama series "Lost Girl" has begun production on its fourth season in Toronto. The 13 all-new episodes will premiere on Syfy in early 2014, with George Takei (Star Trek) and Ali Liebert ("Harper's Island") among the guest stars appearing in Season 4.

Up All Night creator and onetime Saturday Night Live scribe Emily Spivey has joined the Modern Family family.

Exec producer Danny Zuker announced the news Monday via Twitter, gushing, “Attention world: @spivey_e has joined the writing staff of Modern Family! Follow her now! She wrote your favorite SNL sketches!”

Spivey became available for the new gig in May when NBC officially cancelled her long-benched Night. In addition to her show-running past, she most recently appeared on-screen on Parks and Recreation as Ann’s Ob-gyn.

Now that is seems that Lost Girl is handing out fantastic guest star casting news like candy, it’s time to get greedy big. Sure, the news last week that Bomb Girls star Ali Liebert, The L Word/Defiance star Mia Kirshner and needs-no-introduction George Takei would appear in Season 4 of the hit Showcase/Syfy show seemed almost too exciting to bear. But you mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

Lost Girl Executive Producer Emily Andras called the casting news a “LGBTnerdsplsion,” which sounds just about right. But things can always get even better. So let’s make a wish list for the rest of the season. As long as Lost Girl is looking to bring in an all-star cast of actresses who have played gay to guest star, we’re happy to help.

How about Lucy Lawless, Lena Headey or Lisa Ray?...

Producer Antony I. Ginnane was pleased with the feedback and is hoping the film will be selected for the Toronto International Film Festival in October, which he believes would be the launch pad for a raft of sales.

In Cannes the international sales agent Bankside Films sold the pic, which stars Charles Dance, Sharni Vinson and Rachel Griffiths, to distributors in Turkey and the Middle East. Patrick will premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival in July and will open in cinemas in October via Umbrella Entertainment.
