The anticlimactic farewell, where Dexter fakes his death and starts afresh as a lumberjack in Oregon, felt more like an elusion than a worthy conclusion. Even Dexter: New Blood, while a laudable step up in tone and writing, offered a rather ambiguous ending that didn’t quite quench the fandom’s thirst for closure.

But now, with Dexter: Resurrection gearing up for its release in July 2025, there’s a very real opportunity to correct previously taken courses, and one storyline, specifically, has the potential to make it worth the viewers’ time. One of the web-slinger’s best animated movies, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, recently arrived on the streamer after leaving Netflix earlier this month. It has given the streamer’s audience an opportunity to rewatch or catch up with the feature for the first time as it's steadily climbing viewership charts.

As per FlixPatrol, in just five days of its arrival on Disney+ Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is sitting at number 9 on the Top 10. Standing tall in a list which otherwise is dominated by Star Warsmovies, the only other title that has managed to make a space for itself is Thunderbolts* | A Special Look (also known as The New Avengers!) at number 5. As more viewers will discover Miles’ story on the streamer in the coming days, we can expect the movie to further climb up the top 10 list.

Dexter premiered in 2006 to a world that was heavily invested in serial killers and murderers because of movies like The Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho, and more.

The series, which revolved around Dexter Morgan, had a plethora of supporting cast which were iconic in their own role. One of these cast members was Jennifer Carpenter, who portrayed the role of Debra Morgan. However, her journey wasn’t given justice when all hell broke loose in Season 7, Episode 12 of Dexter.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, franchise star Michael C. Hall and showrunner Clyde Phillips explained how the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection will avoid committing one of the franchise's most egregious sins. When asked if the next entry was viewed as a limited or one-off series, Phillips replied with, "We've got the strongest franchise in Showtime's history, and we plan to do this for years."

"Years with an s. The thinking is not to come back for a sort of self-contained one-off again, but leave it open to further exploration. The intention, and hope, is that the story will continue beyond this," Hall added. The star went on to note that, even if the story to come were to end after a single season, it would be hard to imagine that keeping Dexter Morgan off the small screen for very long.

The final movie in Sony Pictures' animated Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was originally set to swing into theaters on March 29, 2024 before being taken off the calendar last July, and the studio had yet to announce a new release date.

Tonight during Sony's CinemaCon panel, we learned that Beyond the Spider-Verse will officially arrive on June 4, 2027.

Producer Phil Lord confirmed that "this movie picks up the moment [the second movie] ended," and described the threequel as a "massive finale" that will "break the boundaries with animation again."

Beyond the main Transformers toy line, there are several other branded collectibles based on the franchise in other properties. This includes Funko Pop! dolls, with a new collection taking three Transformers back to their plastic roots.

Previewed on social media, three new Funko toys are being released based on classic Generation 1 Transformers. In the case of two in particular, they evoke the designs of their original toys instead of the more popular animation models. Another figure also showcases an infamous Autobot at a pivotal moment, and it's possible that similar figures in this vein will also soon see a release.

Though Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse seems on the right track based on recent news, one of the superhero threequel's stars offers a more uncertain take on the film's progress. Miles G. Morales actor Jharrel Jerome provides another frustrating update on the long-gestating animated blockbuster.

Speaking with Decider, Jerome was asked to offer a progress report on Beyond the Spider-Verse and whether he's started voice work on the anticipated project. Jerome relayed that he's yet to begin any work on the third installment in the Spider-Verse film series, with no word regarding when production would start. "No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things," he said.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse finally gets a new update as one of the stars shares what is currently going on with the Marvel film in 2025. The new and returning characters in Dexter: Original Sin help shed more light on past events referenced in the original show, primarily in regard to Dexter’s early kills, his career beginnings at Miami Metro, and the twists leading up to Harry Morgan’s tragic death. To expand on these events, Original Sin also gives Harry his own point-of-view flashbacks, revealing how his affair with Dexter’s mother, Laura Moser, unfolded.

Harry and Laura’s romantic involvement originally came as a twist reveal in Dexter season 2, leading Dexter to wonder whether his adoption and the Code were simply ways to alleviate Harry’s guilt over Laura’s murder.

The final movie in Sony Pictures' animated Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was originally set to swing into theaters on March 29, 2024 before being taken off the calendar last July, and the studio has yet to announce a new release date.

We did recently learn that Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson are set to direct the movie, but we still don't know when it'll arrive on the big screen.

Star Brian Tyree Henry, who voices Miles' father Jefferson Morales in the movies, was asked if he could share an update on the status of Beyond the Spider-Verse while speaking to Variety.

"In all due time. We have to conclude it. It has to be concluded. Can you imagine if we were like, “'That’s it. He’s in a portal and that’s it.'"

So, it's definitely coming... at some point!

Brian Tyree Henry claims that “there’s not going to be a dry eye in the house” when fans finally see the long-awaited Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Tyree has portrayed Miles Morales’ father, Jefferson, in both 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and he will reprise the role for the threequel.

While the third installment in Sony’s animated Spidey saga doesn’t currently have an official release date attached, Henry teases a tear-jerking ending, but it might not be the kind fans will appreciate. In fact, the actor makes it sound like these waterworks won’t be tears of joy that are being shed at the end of Beyond the Spider-Verse. Henry elaborates in a recent podcast appearance, and he even jokes that his schedule is the reason the sequel has been delayed. Henry told Just for Variety host Marc Malkin (below):

It sounds like you should expect an emotional climax to Sony's Spider-Verse movies when Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse finally releases. That's according to star Bryan Tyree Henry, who plays Miles Morales' father Jeff in the animated Marvel movies.

Playfully questioned by The Fire Inside co-star about his part in delaying Beyond The Spider-Verse in an interview with Variety, Henry played up to suggestions his schedule is to blame, before promising the trilogy-ender will be worth the wait:
