Has won Broadway's Tony Award as Best Scenic Designer three times: in 1978 for "On the Twentieth Century", in 1990 for "City of Angels" and in 2001 for "The Producers", the new Mel Brooks musical. He has been Tony-nominated six other times: in 1972 for "Jesus Christ Superstar", in 1975 for "Mack and Mabel", in 1982 for "Dreamgirls", in 1992 for "Jelly's Last Jam", in 1993 for "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches" and in 2000 for "Kiss Me, Kate".
