For many anime fans, Cowboy Bebop is the ultimate anime experience. The one-season series became a massive hit and a proper cult classic, with basically everyone citing it as one of the best anime series ever made. And while a movie was released and we also had Netflix’s failed attempt at a live-action revival, Cowboy Bebop is more or less a thing of the past as the original series has been untouched and unfazed by the recent revival and reboot craze. And while there has been some activity there, with merch coming out and even a remaster of the original Ost, the 25th anniversary of the anime once again raised the hopes of those hoping for another Cowboy Bebop work, but it seems that this is not going to happen.

Eight episodes to discover the universe of Naoki Urasawa and the already legendary Osamu Tezuka if you haven’t already.

The eagerly awaited Anime Expo 2023 presentation unveiled important details about Pluto Anime, a Netflix Original Net Animation.
Pluto is Naoki Urasawa’s seinen manga that reconsiders Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy shonen series in a futuristic world where robots coexist alongside humans.
Gesicht, a German robot with a human appearance that works as an inspector for Europol, attempts to investigate a mysterious string of robot and human fatalities worldwide in the storyline.
Urasawa used the same backdrop to create a darker and more sophisticated plot, which will now be animated by Studio M2, with production handled by Genco and Makoto Tezuka, Osamu Tezuka’s son, managing the project. From October 26, 2023, the Pluto Anime will be accessible on Netflix.

Tongue-in-cheek but never campy, “Shin Ultraman” is an object lesson in how to reboot a superhero franchise for modern times. Cannily making its CGI resemble the aesthetic of Japanese monster movies from yesteryear, this all-new Ultraman adventure has been lovingly assembled to enthrall viewers with no prior knowledge and satisfy fans who’ve been cheering for the giant red-and-silver humanoid since he first saved Japan and the world in a 1966-67 children’s television series. The sixth-highest grossing Japanese feature of 2022, “Shin Ultraman” will fly into U.S. cinemas for an initial two-days-only release on January 11 and 12.
Reuniting after their hit 2016 reboot “Shin Godzilla” (shin translates as “new”), director Shinji Higuchi (“Attack on Titan” Parts 1 and 2) and writer-producer-editor Hideaki Anno (the “Evangelion” anime series) have again woven smart political commentary and meaningful ruminations on human existence into a screenplay otherwise dedicated to delivering marvelously entertaining silliness with an immaculately straight face.

Yesterday, we brought you the new Batman Ninja trailer. Today, we've got all the essential details for those intrigued in the UK...
The idea that Batman exists as a stealthy, gadget-wielding, contemporary crime-fighting nocturnal ninja may seem like a given at this point, but it’s a fairly recent trope that was ignited by movie and comic book reinventions, and far from the 1939 vision of the costumed rope-swinging detective of creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger. However, upcoming anime Batman Ninja not only embraces said trope, but creatively utilises it as the basis for an inventive interpretation of the mythology.
We've now got the details of the planned UK release for you. It'll be available via digital on April 24th, 2018, and Blu-ray, Blu-ray Steelbook and DVD on May 14th, 2018.
Here are the extra features you can expect to find on the Batman Ninja Blu-ray release:...

I've got some pretty cool news for the Ghost in the Shell anime purists out there. The original voice actors from the original anime will be reprising their roles once again for the Japanese language dub of the live action film.
The news comes from the Japanese site Natalie, and they reveal that Akio Otsuka will be back in the role of Batou, a role he played in the 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime feature, as well as its 2004 sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and Stand Alone Complex. They are also bringing back Koichi Yamadera who will be providing the voice of Togusa, while Atsuko Tanaka will be back in the role of Motoko Kusanagi a.k.a. The Major, who is played by Scarlett Johansson in the live-action film.

No doubt eager to capitalize on the upcoming live-action adaptation, Anchor Bay Entertainment and its subsidiary Manga Entertainment are gearing up for a deluxe rerelease of the original animated Ghost in the Shell. First released in Japan and the Us in 1995, the landmark science fiction film by legendary director Mamoru Oshii is one of the most visionary and influential films in the “cyberpunk” subgenre that exploded onto the silver screen with Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and enjoys a longstanding literary tradition thanks to authors like William Gibson and Neal Stephenson. Taking an unmistakably Japanese (and indubitably Oshii) approach to the genre, Ghost famously features both mesmerizing action sequences that inspired the Wachowskis in the direction of The Matrix, and lengthy meditations on transhumanism, existentialism, and spirituality in a hypercapitalist dystopia where human bodies and memories are subject to the same means of production and reproduction as any material resource.

I’m not a typical anime fan, I’ve not seen that many films and series but what I have seen I love. From Akira to Death Note, when I watch them they make me want to watch more, and to have time to put into what I know could easily become an obsession. This is why when I have the chance to review some I snap it up as quickly as I can. Ninja Scroll turns out to be one of these chances and I was lucky with this one. Written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Ninja Scroll is seen (along with Akira and Ghost in the Shell) as being one of the big titles that opened up western eyes to the world of anime, and how lucky...

The ad campaign for the upcoming theatrical release of Anno Hideaki‘s Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo – the third in the four-film retelling of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series – has been… curious, to say the least.
With the film hitting Japanese screens next month we’ve shown, if I remember correctly, a trailer that was shown on some wall screening at some festival (I’m terrible at remembering things lately… I’m accepting donations for a smartphone, to serve as my storage and planning brain part hahaah), right?
This new teaser has actual footage from the movie. It’s short, though, but take a look below nevertheless:
It is one of the greatest anime series ever created and one of the highest achievements in international science fiction, as well as one of the origin-questioningly-and-philosophically deepest animes ever – period. And fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion have had a long wait for the latest installment.

Perhaps it’s best to start at the end. After a perfunctory showdown (a two-on-two variation on the end of Dead or Alive [Takashi Miike, 1999]) in which the film’s antiheroes appear to be killed, Deadly Outlaw: Rekka (Miike, 2002) returns to the serene pagoda first seen at the start of the film. An old yakuza sitting meditatively addresses the camera: “Death is just part of one man’s training.” Another old man (Yuya Uchida) killed at the beginning of the film materializes, Yoda-style, and shouts in English, “Rock and roll!” The screen goes black, and the first minute of a song by Uchida’s band, Flower Travellin’ Band, plays. As it continues, Miike inserts what looks like outtake footage of the lead actors hanging out. One shot, moving in its implied intimacy, shows Miike regulars Riki Takeuchi and Kenichi Endo buying coffee from a vending machine.
