Adam Hart-Davis was educated at the prestigious Eton College. At school
he excelled in physics, chemistry and mathematics. He achieved a first
class Masters degree in chemistry at Oxford University and then took a
PhD in organometallic chemistry at York University. He spent five years
publishing science books for the Oxford University Press. He also
became involved in broadcasting, bringing his scientific expertise to
programmes for Yorkshire Television and the BBC. He continues to write
articles and present radio and television programmes about science.
Hart-Davis enjoys cycling and photography. He is married to
psychologist Sue Blackmore.
His father was publisher and man of letters, and one-time actor Rupert Hart-Davis (1907-1999).
His father chose Celia Johnson for a theatre tour, but she was too tall. His
second choice was Peggy Ashcroft. At the end of the tour they married.
Hart-Davis jokes that if she were four inches shorter Celia Johnson
would have been his step-mother instead.
