Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Another bad weekend where nothing really popped, which is bad news for a month at the box office where only Clint Eastwood’s Sully exceeded any expectations. Tim Burton’s new film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children came out just below my predictions with $29 million, but the Mark Wahlberg-Peter Berg disaster flick Deepwater Horizon was right around where I predicted with $20.2 million. The comedy Masterminds tanked with just $6.5 million for the weekend to end up in sixth place while Disney’s The Queen of Katwe did slightly better than predicted with $2.5 million.
The first full weekend in October has a good deal of competition from the release of the video game Mafia III to the...

The gut-wrenching 911 calls placed from Sandy Hook Elementary School were released on Dec. 4: nearly one year to the date after 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot his way into the school and carried out the horrific Newtown, Ct massacre which left 20 children and 6 educators dead.
Seven phone calls from inside Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012 were released on Dec. 4, 201. Each call provides chilling and upsetting audio that illustrates the horrific events of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting — including what may even be the popping sounds of gunshots captured on the tapes. Emergency dispatchers calmly guided callers through safety procedures, but the distress of the situation can be heard in the voices of callers and 911 operators alike.

At Comic-Con, Paramount Pictures screened 8-minutes of Jackass 3D (watch our video blog here, trailer here) and I called it "a theme park experience but with poop and pee." I know I hurt from laughing after only 8 minutes, and I believe it takes the gimmicky nature of 3D to the extreme. The cast and crew screening of the movie was held over the weekend, and the buzz has hit the web thanks to a few select tweets on twitter. Hit the jump to find out what people are saying about the film. Paul Scheer: Just saw Jackass 3D it has everything u never wanted to see in 3D & things you can't even imagine. I mean that in the best possible way Jon Daly: Jackass 3-D Tonight. Amazing and unbelievable. It makes you feel every human emotion- elation, anger, sadness, happiness, and fear. Hilarious.
